I am eternally grateful to the Something Awful translation team for their amazing work on this show.
They keep on turning out great translations at a steady pace. I now have hope that one day every episode will have been subbed. I would have never imagined that just a few years ago. |

I actually sent a fax during the birthday challenge. It wasn't featured but I hope they got it. Forgot what service I used. And yeah the SA team tends to pick episodes they think people will like or enjoyed themselves, but they sure get a lot of requests for Battletoads. Edit: They slowed down a bit since one of the SA members is translating the Kotaku episodes for the DVD. She MIGHT be finished. Not sure. Not even sure if she worked on the bonus episodes yet. In other news, holy shit someone compiled all (or a majority of) the Tama-ge locations: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=...12995a3d16a8b6

In terms of the amount of episodes they've released it averages out to a little over an episode a week, but in practical terms it tends to be more like a few episodes close together with breaks in between.

I re-uped this for a couple people over at Something Awful and figured there might be some fans here that missed it before.
GCCXcomix.zip - 11.6 Mb Originally printed in the third Game Center CX book, it's basically a comic written by the show's staff writer, Kibe, that details the making of an episode of the show. I don't remember who translated it, but it was posted in the previous GCCX thread over at SA and I think it's pretty interesting from a fan perspective so I'm happy to pass it around. Credit to Kibe, the illustrator and whoever translated. |

That Lincoln clip was hilarious. Here's another video though that shows the full idea of a tsundere cafe: http://youtu.be/P32bX0xuZfE
Also, another SA translation released: Street Fighter 2010. Never played it but I believe Angry Videogame Nerd did an episode on it and didn't actually hate it. Edit: I don't know if it's ever been posted in the thread but the SA translation team have a Facebook page. |

I watched the Arino's 40th anniversary resume episode.
The whole concept in kinda weird, I mean, japanese weird, a 24 hours TV show where the guy celebrate his birthday by playing video games live... It was fun to see Sakurai's message, he have a much louder voice than I thought! Also fun to see gifts from Nintendo and SquareEnix! |

I have a question.
How much you think is "scripted"? I mean they even have writers for the show. I think the reactions and gaming is acurate, but sometimes I am having my doubts, when they talk about the time. "After 49 tries and 2 hours, he is back at point xyz." If you played these games yourself at a child, sometimes it really sounds unbelievable. More like "He tried 20 minutes, then ate dinner for 1 hour and then tried another 20 minutes". What do you think about it? You think they overexaggerate or its true? Nevertheless I really love the show. |

I still think he's usually trying his hardest though, since the general consensus seems to be that he's been getting better over the years. And sometimes he just plain breezes through certain games. |

Quote:
"After 2 hours replaying this part, he finally arrived at the hard spot he could not pass earlier on." But yeah. I am also sure the AD-Interactions are scripted. Someone must say "Hey, go to him to "help" him. Prepare something." I just wonder why they draw maps and things like that, when almost every game in Japan had a guidebook. In one of the earlier episodes I remember Arino even used one of those. But after that it seems the ADs always have to draw maps or do something similar. |

Just sometimes to me it seems, its a bit of exaggeration and think more like "Ah. Guess he made a 2-3 hour pause, had dinner after than and then continued." Especially at the Pilot Wings Episode, they say "After 28 tries, he finally landed the plane". Something like that. Somehow I can not believe he needed 28 tries to land the plane. Just these strike me odd sometimes. Edit: Eh? After about 1 year I became a member. Yay!! What happened??? lol

It always seems legit to me. I just finished watching the Kid Kool episode, and screens like this pop up to remind you how punishing these games are: ![]() The only shows where you could watch every single failed attempt are probably those 24 hour live challenges he does. By the way, Something Awful fansubs just release Episode 99 - Rainbow Islands (and it looks like Episode 100 - Wrecking Crew will be up tomorrow).

Just watched the exclusive Super Metroid-episode on the Nintendo Channel. Was quite good and actually a full 1-hour challenge.
Calling Samus "Roid-san" and constantly reading the English weapon-names incorrectly was quite funny. Too bad he didn't make it to the ship on the first try, that would have been the perfect ending. |

They talk about things like production, whether or not a segment has worked, even show us them presenting Arino with games they might use in future eps.
I wonder why they skipped Bubble Bobble? One of my favourite oldschool games and would make for a nice dynamic (finiding out you have to play Co-Op for the real ending).

I hadn't noticed before because I was just getting the links from Facebook rather than going to the SA thread for the last few releases but they've also been accompanied by new fanart by Zari-Gani.
![]() ![]() ![]() TV-Nihon did that season, but they stripped out the majority of the episode and only did the challenge segments (which, as you said, weren't the focus of the show at the time). The SAGCCX release is the whole thing and was apparently a major pain to translate. I'm not surprised that TV-Nihon did cut down versions if an actually good translator considered it such a challenge. |

I'm really glad SA translated a full season 1 episode, and despite the apparent difficulty, I hope they do more. It's interesting seeing interviews from Japanese developers of that era; even though they're not super in-depth, they're still good. And I'd still love to see the Sakura Taisen episode. ^_^; |
