I believe the term used is broad strokes. Which I think is kinda silly because how are we supposed to know what is used and what isn't?

And really, given it's a comic book movie: Who's to say Cyclops would be truly dead if they made an X4? They could just pull an "Oh, Jean tore me apart but I reanimated by pulling myself together. It's 'kay." like comic books do already. |

To be fair, we all knew going into that that Jean Grey was going to die. It isn't a proper Phoenix Saga if she doesn't die. Granted it wasn't a proper Phoenix Saga at all, since they barely had any flaming Phoenix anywhere, but the death was still a given.

I don't know why more movies don't just go James bond style and just tell more stories. Q and moneypenny don't need a reboot reintroduction every third movie. Since it takes so long to make these movies, actors will change and there is no choice in that. But redoing origin stories is just lazy

In the comics, Beast and Nightcrawler used them quite a bit to blend in as normal looking human beings. As for reboots....sometimes it's a good thing. It sucks to have characters locked by a movie(s) that didn't work. Or for other reasons... For instance, X-Men....it pretty much kickstarted the Marvel movie run thats a decade+ long now. By now, we have all sorts of dimensional tearing shit going on with no problem. But in the climate of the first X movies development, they felt they needed to "ground" and "darken" the universe it would exist in. They wore black leather outfits and even made it a point to make it a joke in the movie (the "what would you prefer, yellow spandex?" line). Well now we have all kinds of colorful costumed heros and villains flying all over. Between the perception of what audiences would tolerate without dismissing it as cheesy, corny or kiddie, and its very small budget, the first X-Men movie, while doing some key things right, felt very limited and held back. Once set, the series had to pretty much continue that tone and visual style. I wouldn't mind a fresh take, larger than life scope and characters, and more ambitious storylines....sadly I'd want a PROPER Phoenix storyline fleshed over several movies(including a proper "good" Phoenix phase, and the long term manipulation of the Hellfire Club or similar catalyst, before transitioning...and with Jean as Dark Phoenix having an actual personality, and not just a silent zombie puppet of Magneto's)...,but sadly they're not going to do that for a very long time, so... Days of Future Past/Sentinels please (bonus if Rachel Summers is in a sticks around), or Apocalypse==>Age of Apocalypse. Either way, I don't want another X-Movie with humans taking up so much of the conflict or being in the crossfire. I wants some straight up mutant on mutant or Sentinel mayhem so their abilities don't have to be so muted and muzzled. |

you mentioned Carnage OP, invalidates the rest of your arguments. I mean, carnage.

Is it bad that after Nolan... I want a Zach Snyder Batman? Shit would be so stylish, look ripped right out of the comics.

Why was the OP banned, this is the most sensible thread of the week.
Superhero / comic book movies are such a joke, the whole genre just needs to disappear already... |

I read somewhere that in the sequel to first class, they are rumoured to do a kind of alternate reality plot which could make it so that the first class universe would exist separately to Xmen.

The film was a fucking travesty. Instead of a cautionary tale against Reals, it was just another generic superhero film.

Also, in the case with Marvel properties, I actually don't mind characters being rebooted, as long as it is done to weave them into the cinematic universe, not necessarily to be in an avengers movie, just so that if an when the time comes, another team up movie occurs, they have another character to draw from.
I don't read comics, but id love to see a antihero version of the avengers, with loads of shady heroes in, like the punisher and daredevil. |

"The Ultimates" is a very good series, but it goes through awful patches. It has what you're looking for. Specifically, "Ultimate Comics: Avengers " and "Ultimate Comics: Avengers 2" has Nick Fury run a black ops Avengers team, and indeed the Punisher gets recruited. |
