Here is a random question. Would it be safe to have a Sugar Glider with a pet cat? Is it possible they could get along and coexist or would the cat start plotting the demise of the SG the moment it was introduced into the home?
Not getting one, but have thought about it for years. Not sure if this ends that or not. |

Aren't sugar gliders nocturnal? My friends had a pair of them, and they had to give them up when they had a kid because they were so noisy at night.
I imagine it would be just like having a small bird and a cat in the same house. |

You'd almost certainly have a better chance if they were raised together, though. |

I have a siberian. Best cat I've ever had. Acts much more like a dog, super friendly to everyone, always at the door to greet you. VERY talkative. Only bad thing is that they shed like a motherfucker. Brush them three or more times a week unless you want to deal with matting. I've had friends allergic to cats say they don't have a problem with my Siberian, others still get allergic to it. So, I'm not sure. You may just want to spend as much time as possible with it before you get one to see how you react, if that's an option.

clancy is so cute!
we have two siberians, paid 1300 swiss francs each for them. they're amazing cats. i always call them "cats for dog people" because of their dog-like personalities. they love to hang around with you, have "conversations", play fetch (better than most dogs can), and are very affectionate. ours are also very smart, they can open doors and drawers for instance. :) our two boys, yoshi and janosh (they're half-brothers): ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I wouldn't pay this much for a cat in a million years if I didn't have to. |

A tree isn't necessary, but cats tend to like "perching" on the highest surfaces they can find. A cat tree is a good way to redirect the cat to perching there rather than on expensive furniture. And if you get the right kind of material on it, hopefully he'll scratch the tree instead of your couch.

Alright guys, I have an update.
We drove down to near Atlanta to pick him up from the breeder on June 7th. He meowed half the way home, and for the first week he did it here in the apartment almost nonstop. We kept him in the office with all of his stuff when neither of us were home and at night when we were asleep, and let him out with us when we were there and awake. Overay the past two days we have started leaving the office door open and letting him roam around the entire apartment except for our bedroom - I'm trying to keep that one room cat free for now. Since we started leaving him out he has been a totally different cat, much happier and just more well rounded. I guess that goes without saying, but we thought that would be the best way to do it to start with. Also, I haven't had a single allergic to him at all in these two plus weeks other than maybe an itchy nose a time or two from a single hair going up my nose, but that's to be expected and I'm not used to an animal being indoors. It is just freakin' amazing. He can be right in my face cuddling up with me asleep and it doesn't bother me a single bit. I never in a million years thought I could have a cat inside like this. For those of you curious about the Siberian breed, I HIGHLY recommend it, especially if you are typically allergic to cats. Or heck, even if you just want an awesome cat. We have also started clicker training him with freeze dried chicken treats. So far he can play fetch like a puppy, and we're going to work on sit, stand, roll over, and all of the other typical tricks. He is also growing, fast. We went to PetSmart the other day and they had kittens a month older than Clancy, and he is already twice their size. It's crazy. This is going to be one big cat. Here are a few pictures of him here in the apartment. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

My cat cost me a £20 donation. 1K for a cat seems like madness to me.

Edit: Wow, he looks amazing. Congrats. Also, since you live on the 2nd floor, do you plan to let him out or how will that work? I ask because I'm aware of the idea of a house cat, but for me, and people I know with cats, they like to get out for a good few hours a day, sometimes you don't see them for nearly the whole day! Other than if you see them outside playing around.

Once he gets a taste of going outside he'll want to go out all the time, I'd wouldn't do it.

Since my wife was off today she took Clancy to the vet to have his third kitten booster shot. He was two and a half pounds on June 8th when we took him to the vet the first time to get the suggested checkup, the day after we picked him up, and today he officially weighs in at four pounds and 10 ounces. He turns 16 weeks on the 13th.
I still haven't had any reactions to him. We bought the Breeze litter system and the Litter Genie and it has all but eliminated any obvious odors when it comes to that sort of stuff. We have also learned he hates fish. How odd.

glad you are enjoying him :)
our janosh just hit the 10-month mark, and he's developing quite the personality. he is seriously not fazed by anything. the lower floor of our building caught fire on monday and the cats had to be evacuated (we were on vacation omg). the firefighters went in and got him and gave him to my in-laws and he wasn't frightened at all, he handled the whole thing like a bawss. total opposite of his brother. ![]() they got in the newspaper, lols |

Holy crap cloudwalking, that is rough. I'm glad your cats were fine though. That has been one of our biggest worries, if our apartment caught fire.
We are thinking of getting some pet insurance. We have seen estimates from $10-$25 a month that would suit us I thinking, depending on what options you add on. Is that insane or something pet owners even do? I honestly have no clue. |

We are training Clancy and so far he can come when called, sit on command, and now we are now teaching him to stand and he's coming along. After that will be to hop from standing, then after that I'm not sure. Here he is standing...

So far we have taught him to come, sit, stand, hop from the standing position (or any position I guess), and last night we taught him to shake after just a few times of trying with him. I'm so glad I got a cat that allows us to do things like this with him. He must really love the freeze dried chicken we bought for him to be willing to do all of that for it.
We gave him another bath last night. Here are a few pictures from before, right after, and a little while later after we put the harness on him to get him more used to it, or his "vest" as my wife calls it... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

edit: I see that you've had him in your home for a while, that's great! You may still develop stronger allergies against it due to prolonged exposure though if you're unlucky. It could take months or years, but it could happen. Not trying to be a party pooper, but allergies are devious and you might be disappointed in the end. Hope it goes well for you. You should also get a vacuum with a HEPA-12 filter as soon as possible, and an air purifier would probably be a good idea as well. All to reduce the amount of allergens in the air and around the house.
