I also think the F2P market may be reflective more of everyone's income than how viable it really is for the long term. If wages people earned shot back up we'd probably see many people preferring to go ahead and buy those $60 games a bit more casually. Something like iPads doing really damn well could be more a case of people convincing themselves it's important enough, and it's harder to say that about a game that could drop to less than half price in just a month or two.
I do think that for whatever reason F2P's desirable though that, similar to WoW and MMOs, only so many are going to successfully fit in. |

I played the title in Beta and liked what I played. But its very clear how EA saw F2P. Pay for self healing bandages, Guns can only be purchased Temporarily, etc.
Lord of the Rings, Age of Conan, and others are also shit. You know, most of those formerly pay2play titles once they turn F2P seem to be shit. The games aren't designed around F2P, so you feel that wall hit you very quick and hard. I went back to LOTRO and it turns out I lost something like half my bag space and I had to repurchase it. Looking at it now. I see 2 30$ expansions I would have to buy also....
