HELP GAF!!! T-Mobile tricked me into a two years contract extension!! #1

I was shopping for a new phone(because my contract ends soon) when I found out I'm not eligible and my contracts doesn't ends until December of 2013. I called t-mobile immediately and they told me I extended back when i was calling to cancel my sister's line in December.

I was surprised, because the representative I talked to didn't mention anything about renewing my contract through the phone(I didn't even knew there is such a thing as a contract through the phone without me signing any documents.) All the representative told me was that he can hold onto the line for me for 2 years without any charges and gave me 10 dollars discount cause I'm a long time member(so basically the line is free.)

The rep(i've talked to two of them) on the customer care didn't even bother to help me and only gave me the e-mail to their contract review department(which I've already typed and send to yesterday but no response yet.) I doubt they will let me off of my contract but hopefully they will. Because it's not only my line but three other lines are affected. So which mean if I wants to terminate my contract, I'll have to pay nearly $1000. I can't afford that much.

So now I'm basically stuck in a contract with no new phones or no corporate discount to apply to for my new job.

I'm just shooting in the dark and hopefully anyone here who had a similar experience or smarter me can find a way for me to get out of this mess or at least just reveres my contract to how it was before.

Thanks gaf members.

What exactly did you think holding the line entailed?

Welp, it sure sucks that you didn't ask more questions before agreeing.

A friend of mine has appealed to pity before with tmobile and it worked for him. He told the rep he lost his job (which was true) and was leaving the country to look for opportunities. 3 years later the sim card still works and he even got the number transferred to ATT when he got an iphone.

Some states have cooling off periods in which you can back out of the contract. I think it's 30 days in California.

Oh nvm, I misunderstood your post. I thought this just happened rather than back in December. Yeah, you're boned.

As far as I can tell, T-Mobile has a 2 week cooling off period for customers in the UK. Couldn't find anything regarding U.S.

Well you goofed.

When he said to hold onto the line for 2 Years you should have realized something was up, 2 years is the standard cellphone contract length. Why would you need to hold on to a line when you can always add lines to a family plan.

But even then it should have only extended your sisters line, it sounds like the rep extended all of the lines at the new rate. You might be able to get your lines back to their original length if you explain that the representative didn't do what you though he was doing, and that you want to get a new phone(adding another 2 years to your line).

Well in the UK some other providers will buy you out of your contract? but i dunno if they'd pay 1000$ for your business

Tell them you feel like their representative deceived you intentionally into buying a service you didn't want and that you never agreed to a contract extension. Sound really upset. Then explain that you don't want out of the contract, you just want a phone upgrade. Repeat these points to everybody they transfer you to. Don't get off the phone until you get to somebody who has the authority to just authorize a phone upgrade discount for you. Don't forget to use the word "deceptive" a lot. Giving you a phone discount is not a big deal for them, especially since they can see that you really should be entitled to one.

The rep I talked to at the store said they can't do anything for me.

oh, I'm not looking for a phone upgrade just yet. I was thinking of a)get out of tmobile when my contract ends or b)get a samsung galaxy s3 in november.
