Funcom CEO resigns the day before The Secret World Launch
#1
Trond Arne Aas, long term CEO of Funcom since Age of Conan, resigned earlier today. He takes on the new role as strategic advisor (to the board). At the moment, it is not known who will take over as new CEO.
(The linked article is in Norwegian only one I could find on the subject) http://e24.no/boers-og-finans/funcom...ering/20249161 Terrible translation of the same article by google. http://translate.google.com/translat...ing%2F20249161 |

If you've played it you'll understand why. For a game with that much dev time it sure doesn't come out in the finished project.
At least that's my impressions from beta so it might have changed for all I know.

That sucks. Most of the impressions I've read from the OT were really positive. It was probably the most silent launch for a big MMO ever.

It's bad core MMO mechanics, wrapped in an interesting shell of fairly well-executed settings, events, dialog, and lore. Unfortunately, the crux of the game is shoddy combat. |

You mean the beta that happened weeks before the game came out. Are you going to tell me that it's not fair to base my opinions off of that?
You must have it pre-ordered and are in the pre-start so please come back and tell me how the combat has drastically changed and how the horrible voice acting and animations have changed.

It is a pretty unique MMO. GF ended up picking it up, it's still very buggy but it has some of the most interesting approaches to quests in it. Still has generic MMO quests but they do mix it up with alot of interesting twists that require some actual thought.
The combat and feel of the gameplay just left me going meh, but I will possibly give it a chance at a later time because it has great atmosphere. |

Tera has good combat depending on the situation. PvE can be REALLY static if everyone knows what they're doing but PvP can be really good in organized 5v5-10v10, once it goes over that it feels like a cluster-fuck. Other than the combat and the great visuals, which aren't for everyone, it's your standard MMO. I'd still be playing it if there was more to do end-game.
Pretty sure you can get trials for both the EU and NA versions so give it a try. |

Subjective for sure, but I didn't find TERA's combat to be particularly good. Sure it's novel that they have real-time action-based combat in an otherwise WoW-style MMORPG, but the combat really didn't feel that good to me. If it were a single-player action game, for example, most people would probably write it off as a piece of crap. It's "good for an MMORPG," but that is just a compromise, in my opinion. I'd rather have DIKU combat that actually works well in an MMORPG setting than some weak action-style combat.

From what I've heard he didn't leave the company. He said he felt overworked and transferred over to that Funcom/Lego thing.
Of all Funcom MMOs this one is the one that appeals the most to me. But even so I don't have any real desire to play it. I'll look at the reviews at least though. |

PSO2
Releasing an RPG with turnbased battles after Kingdom Hearts is really stupid. We need to get away from the archaic DQ battle system. |

Bad time to resign. Gives the impression that there's no faith behind the game when the game is actually pretty solid. It's not going to set the world on fire but I'm having a better time with it than I ever did with SWTOR.
Great atmosphere, story, missions, and character progression. In any case, I too cant wait for the next Dreamfall. |

That said, GW2 is pretty bad-ass and it would be a shame to see ArenaNet drop the genre. They won't because GW2 will do well, but in the far future I mean... |
