T'was an OK movie adaptation----best bit was the OP though as I loved the musical style they went with for the PC game.
Still, I guess my memory is really hazy from the old days of the series as Guts getting his sword in the way that he did was totally not something kicking around in the noggin despite much of the rest of the film doing so... I'm hopeful for the rest even if it will be a long journey to surpass the TV series and game materials coherently----guess the world needed another movie/animation beyond TV usual saga of a dramatic anime since even Hellsing Ultimate can't have THAT many more episodes left....probably. |

Just finished a minute ago.
Yeah, fuck this man. This is beyond speeding through the story, this is a fucking slide show. How we jump from one key event to another is downright laughable. Absolutely no time is given to develop character depth, and the 1:13 min running time is a joke when you're trying to establish the Guts / Griffith dynamic. They ended this part at the right spot, as it IS a pivotal point, but it's impact is completely lost since we went there doing 180 mph. All that aside, if this leads to a series at some point, I'll be more than happy; at least then they'll take their fucking time. |

Haha, so it wasn't just me that thought it kinda whipped by. I was a little bit dizzy by the end because of how fast the story went, very surreal. I still liked it but damn, they definitely need to ease up on the pace. Hopefully the next movie doesn't move at a breakneck speed.

It's pretty much mandatory to watch the TV series first. The movie is just a summary with better animation. I'm doubtful there is even a single scene in the movie that wasn't in the show.
That being said, considering some of the animation from TV shows, OVAs and movies over the last 7+ years, the animation in Berserk is pretty bad. I thought it was supposed to be popular? You'd think they'd at least be able to match the animation of the better TV shows :\ |

So by the end, a viewer new to the seires may feel the move is asking a bit too much out of him. |

Saw the movie, I really liked it.
I agree the pacing is too fast. The only part that really grinded my gears was when gutts fought zodd and how they did a talk over it, explaining who zodd was. What should have been the highlight of the movie lasted 3 minutes or so. I'm probably the minority opinion here but I think the animation is great by far. When guts fought the tudor knights in front of the king by himself, it was insanely good. There were some scenes where the animation didn't feel fluid but I think it's much better than the old series where all the action scenes were interrupted by image stills. The music was great. The assassination scene was probably my favorite piece from the movie. I want to get a friend to watch it to see what kind of questions arise from his point of view. I hope the next movie focuses more on griffth's character development. At the very least they need to flesh out casca (why she's so invested into the hawks/griffith)/griffith (just how far he's willing to take his dream) before movie three. We can find out more about gambino as the series goes on. Is there a specific date in june for the next movie or is it already out?

Doesn't sound too hard, but OK. I will! After being completely discouraged by the trailers for the first movie, I pretty much put the sequel out of my mind. Have there been trailers that made the CG look any better, blend any better, or is that just wishful thinking on my part given their production schedules?

Honestly, after the first ten minutes or so, I stopped noticing the issues with the CG. The movie is entertaining enough that you ignore it unless you are the easily obsessive type. It was certainly less jarring than the still-pan action sequences from the television show.

And the Kotaku reviewer mentioned that while the animation is slightly better the real improvements are in the story telling. That's great news to me. |

Enjoyed it quite a bit.
I've watched the TV series multiple times so the fast pace didn't bother me, I don't need to see everything I already know (sure some characterization was missing but I already know it from the series). I'd have loved for it to be longer but I'm sure even if it were 2 hours long I'd still want it even longer, they wouldn't be able to win. The assassination scene was very well done, I was specifically looking forward to how they would handle it. The only thing that kinda irked me was Griffith's face, looked funky. He looked better in the series. |

Just got back from watching the 2nd movie, and I thought it was awesome!
I enjoyed it much more than the first film. The action was better, the story better, and the music was awesome. The CG was at times still weird though, but it doesn't bother me much. For what its worth, its the best Japanese movie I've seen yet this year. |

I hope the movie is doing good. I want to see the Black swordsman arc animated. We never saw that... :-( |

Unfortunately it's the ONLY way to go. It seems a lot of people don't see to know this, but the Berserk anime was a commercial flop.

I dunno. That's probably not true considering what a big project this is. These Berserk movies are definitely not "budget film making" films. They just happen to look bad because well, the CG techniques used suck. That's unfortunate, but it doesn't mean they were being cheap about it. There are a lot of better ways to make Berserk at the same cost. They just chose poorly.

So I love the Anime and I love the Manga (pretty much up to date as far as the story goes)
Just saw the first movie and I REALLY liked it. I don't know how they could do better with the 70 Minutes runtime. Every key element of the story is there, even though it rushes a bit I think you can still very well understand the story. The CG wasn't THAT bad, the battles were very well done and the music was awesome. I am looking forward to the second and third movie, BRING IT ON! |

The fact that these movies are so poorly done and are getting terrible reviews really breaks my heart as a huge Berserk fan. I SOOOOO wanted them to bring out a new TV series, continuing where the original left off and giving us all the details of what happened to the characters at the end of the OG series. Was that asking for too much? Instead we get these crappy movies with horrible CGI. Very depressing :( :(

There's a chance that we'll see past the eclipse animated. At the very least the third movie will be showing the eclipse - and finally showing, in animated form, how Guts and Casca escaped. |

![]() 11/27, preorder is $16 right now on Amazon! Anyway, I just realized how expensive the original series is now... I really wish I had bought the remastered version when it was $30 (but I missed a half off sale and refused to spend more than $15 on it). My first disc is scratched to hell. :( |

Wow, what the heck? I have both the Box of War and the remastered version, and I didn't think they would be worth anything in this era of piracy.

Can't say for sure, but they appear to have tanked at the Japanese BO. Neither film sits in the top 100 so far for the year :\

When did the second one come out? Also... HOLY SHIT. I try to keep in the dark as much as I can when it comes to berserk Movies/Manga.... makes the wait more bearable. So far i have stayed almost a year in the dark... that means i have to read like what? 2 chapters? |
