Wii U will need to be priced right for me to get one right away.
If Microsoft has full backwards compatibility for everything I've purchased on Xbox Live, then I'd definitely be inclined to jump on their next machine. Sony have impressed me a lot over the last 2-3 years. If I was buying a current gen machine today, I'd pick up a PS3. So that makes me think they know what they're doing moving forward and I'd be inclined to be there day 1 if there's something compelling. As always, it comes down to the games. And as much as I'm invested in my Xbox Live profile, I wont buy a new machine if it doesn't have any games to play. |

I'll get the Wii U likely at launch, PS4 at launch if the line up is good. And the 720 when there is enough software to warrant getting that as well as the PS4. I think Microsoft have the weakest exclusives so it might be a while, but I'll get all three eventually. Still need to get a Vita too.
Edit: If either Sony/Microsoft push an Anti-used game/digital only policy though that'd put me off.

Wii U at launch (or Christmas), It really depends between Sony and Microsoft on who will impress me more, but since I've been a much more PlayStation fan than Xbox I'll probably get the PS4.
These are the ones I had in the past. 3rd Gen NES 4th Gen SNES/Genesis 5th Gen N64/PS1 6th Gen GameCube/PS2/Xbox 7th Gen Wii/PS3 |

I will...but not at launch. WiiU is day 1, but everything else will wait unless I just have cash to throw around/it's at a decent price. Used to just be a 1 to 2 system guy, but after having experienced owning all 3 console and both portables current generation, I dont think I can go back.

Wii U at or near launch.
I already have a PC that'll handle the games I care for. I'll be upgrading this whenever. Brother will probably end up getting a PS4 at some point in time, but personally, I don't really care much for the exclusives on that platform. About the Next Xbox.... Uh, no. Exclusives that I literally can't bother to get interested in at all.

Yup. As I get older and less time to play, I keep pretending I won't buy everything, but it's inevitable
WiiU for Nintendo games, PS4 for Sony games. I think the only possibility of not buying everything, is if PS4 is out first, or at the same time as 720 (imagine a same day launch!) |

Unless one of them ends up a massive failure and dies within a couple of years of launch, I'll probably end up with all 3, but only after a certain amount of time. I got a Wii in 2007, PS3 in 2009 and a 360 in 2011, so I could see myself repeating something like that Next-next gen.

I've owned very Nintendo console including Wii at launch. I justified my early PS2 purchase with the DVD player and my PS3 purchase with the Blu-ray player. Xbox 360 was my first Microsoft console.
I'm having trouble envisioning buying the Wii U or PS4 until there are significant price drops. I've yet to see a Wii U title that will justify the console expense and it is going to be hard to swallow the PS4 price without a media benefit. |

At some point I'm going to own a Wii U and PS4 but it will be a long while from now. I moved on from the Wii after Skyward Sword and am now working through the PS3 catalogue. I like the Sony/Nintendo combo because you get all the third party games plus most of the major first party exclusives.

If you're referring to revisions/updates ala the 3DS XL, it depends on the type of updates the platform gets. Handhelds get spicier updates compared to consoles, so I don't think I'll be missing much on an update. Unless it's the 360, where the revision fixed the travesty that was the original, but it's one of the very few instances of that happening in the console space. |

I felt the same, but there are some other games that were better on 360 than PS3 for Japanese developers. Bayonetta and both Sonic games were better on 360, and in fact, I think the last game I actually played on the 360 was Sonic Generations when that came out.

I'll end up with all of them eventually, but just the PS4 on day one.
