Progressive trance/techno - recommendations please! #1

So I'm a huge fan of Minilogue, and in particular their earlier work on Baroque and Planetary Consciousness - stuff like The Breeze, In a Deeper Motion, and Leloo are great tunes.
Anyone know of any tracks/artist similar to this style? I love the driving tribal-like drum loops, and the rising and falling synth sounds.

Recently they've taken far more minimal routes, with The Girl From Botany Bay probably being their best last progressive track, and even then it's slipping into more downbeat sounds - though I must say, it's an absolute joy to listen to, so no complaints there.

Hmmm, another confusing electronica genre thread.

When I think of progressive trance, I think of BT and Hybrid.

Too trancey to be honest with you. Don't let the thread title mislead you, calling it progressive trance is a stretch - it's quite difficult to define. It's a mix of a lot of things, house, trance, euphoric like elements with rising lush choruses that you hear in In a Deeper Motion etc etc.

Give those tracks a listen and you'll see what I mean.

I know, I know. I find Minilogue's earlier tracks so hard to categorise. It's like a genre of their own to an extent.

Just putting the trance i like out there too for others to check out if they see fit. I can't listen to trance without the urge to get drunk out of my mind so i tend to say away from it all together xD

Getting closer, for sure. Needs more elements to it though, a few more layers... it's hard to describe, so I'm sorry for such a niche request.

I'm liking this anyway, though, so I'll be sure to check them out otherwise.

Awesome, I'll check both these out and get back to you.

Combing through Minilogue's discog I found this too: Pixelized. It's quite heavy on the percussion compared to the others, but it's from the same era. Just missing those techno tweaks and spacey additions that make tracks like In a Deeper Motion so good.

Anyways, here, I found this track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkBToABpzXY

It's nice, y'know, but still a little off. All these tracks I'm finding are good, but not quite on the mark. C'mon GAF, someone out there must be able to find me something.!

Breeder, yes - but it's still way to trancey. Halfway through a driving rhythm it cuts to a ridiculous fanfare of synthy notes like alll other trance tracks out there. It's not creative enough for me...

Only Twilo Thunder really. Check out New York FM or Carnival XIII. And definitely Van Bellen.

Solid Sessions - Janeiro is one of my favs of this type, but it's probably too trancey. Same with Dusty Kid, who's still active.

Just making my way through everything now, so here's the progress so far:

@Fusebox

That's a great playlist you've compiled there, with some nice tunes - closer to what I was looking at, which is great. Also reminded me to give Dominik Eulberg's Flora and Fauna a re-listen, which reminded me what a good track Keine Nieten Bei Den Herbstzei is!

@daviyoung

Trawling through these artists at the moment, many of which I haven't come across - nothing jumps out yet, but I'll let you know!

@Nyx

Like I said, familiar with a couple of these already, but it's helping me find similar artists and explore some more.

The majority of what I've heard so far is more directed towards techno and trance - which is great, especially as I'm a huge techno nerd, but I'm still missing the mark with finding track's similar to Minilogue's earlier work. Ah well, it's been a nice journey otherwise, and I've found some newer artists that are worth the listening, even if it's not quite what I'm looking for! Thanks everyone for the help, and if there's more suggestions, keep them coming - the more early 2000's progressive the better!

I know man, I know. I understand I'm looking for something niche and difficult to identify, but I'm really pleased there's an established and dedicated techno audience on GAF to help out. What say you to a general Techno thread? Techno, electronic, dance, trance, minimal, house and progressive tunes(:P)?

I think if we collected together like this we could discover some great new artists.

I'm not sure if you've seen, but we've got this:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=345354

Which is all electronic music, but there's often techno posted there. I don't think there's enough of an audience for techno (and too many people debating what is/isn't techno) to sustain its own thread.

You'll recognise a lot of posters there.

Yeah, I've seen this thread floating around, dropped in one or two times to see some of the recommendations and wasn't too interested...

I like my Format:B and my Trentemoller, y'see. Damn, that reminds me, Prana by Trentemoller is pretty close to what I'm looking for... And African People too... Sweet, I'm off to listen again.

Some of the earlier Nick Warren stuff might work out. GU:008 - Brazil and GU:018 - Amsterdam might fit that. GU:028 - Shanghai might be too 'trancey' whereas GU:024 - Reykjavik is absolutely brilliant, but I don't think it's what you are looking for (really mellow).

It might be worth checking out John Digweed's GU CD's also (Los Angeles and Hong Kong).

It's been a while since I've listened to those CDs, but based on the links in the OP that's as close as I can get in comparison. I've been out of the elec music scene for way too long and need to fix that.

Yeah, he's done a ton. He did 003 - Prague, 008 - Brazil, 011 - Budapest, 018 - Amsterdam, 024 - Reykjavik, 028 - Shanghai, 030 - Paris, 035 - Lima.

They are all pretty solid, though I'm not a huge fan of Prague. Some good tracks on that CD though.

As said, check out the entire Global Underground CD catalogue, including the Nubreed spinoffs.

Also, find DJ sets from 2000-2004 from people like Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Deep Dish, Steve Lawler, Sander Kleinenberg, Satoshi Tomiie, Behrouz, Chris Fortier, Anthony Pappa, John Creamer & Stephane K etc.

Oh and some tracks that defined that progressive era for me :

Peace Division - Feel My Drums

Peace Division - Blacklight Sleaze
