Yeah, bummer about that one.

He had real talent and would have been a nice story considering his upbringing. His mother was in prison until recently for failing to report terrible beatings from his stepfather when Herschel was very young.

But yeah, you can't be stealing from teammates. Dumb.

Makes me regret not getting Barry J. Sanders even more. But recruiting is going extremely well so far. Oodles of stud WRs have already committed.

The Freeh Report will drop thursday morning, and judging by Spanier, JoePa's family, and Penn State's reaction, this is going to be megaton big. They're already in 100%, "fuck if everyone can tell I'm lying through my teeth, this is what I absolutely have to do" denial mode.

First, Spanier: Everything everybody has said so far is a lie (that I never bothered to refute before), and I never had any knowledge of this incident despite the emails and interviews and corroborated evidence. F'reals.

Next, the kin to glorious leader: Joe Paterno did not cover up for Jerry Sandusky. Joe Paterno did not know that Jerry Sandusky was a pedophile. Joe Paterno did not act in any way to prevent a proper investigation of Jerry Sandusky. Joe Paterno controls the weather, and was born under a double rainbow.

Next, State Penn U is willing to break the law to talk about how to spin PR to damage control when it drops: Shit, we suck again!

We already know the report is going to be "hard" on Joe Paterno. I'm guessing thursday we see the last shreds of his legacy completely unravel. From the emails between the top brass at PSU, it seems evident to me that JoePa not only was aware of the cover-up, but probably ordered it to begin with.

I actually feel bad for the current students and athletes at PSU. They didn't do anything wrong. And their university is about to be absolutely rocked. Again.

Wasn't PSU just ranked the 51st best university in the world, 4 spots above Ohio State?

Or should those students choose their university based off of football teams?

Referring to my post? Is out-of-state tutition only a southern thing or something? I don't belittle anybody who went to PSU for school, there are a variety of reasons you choose your university. Football is low on my list. And I'll note that my first year at Texas was 2005.

So Dr. Dranov was also JoePa's personal physician...

Quote:
The witness to the February 2001 assault, former graduate assistant Mike McQueary, told his father, John, and family friend Dr. Jonathan Dranov before reporting the abuse to Paterno the next morning. They didn't speak to the authorities either, until approached by investigators following the anonymous email.

Under the cloak of their silence, Sandusky attended football games at Penn State, ran summer camps on the university's satellite campuses in Erie and Harrisburg and assaulted at least three other boys.

The last boy, a high school freshman identified by prosecutors as Victim 1, went to the authorities in November 2008, the same month Sandusky returned to Penn State for the wedding of former kicker Craig Fayak.

The boy's report, almost eight years after the shower incident, led to a grand jury investigation and Sandusky's eventual arrest. The same investigation led to charges of a cover-up against two university officials, Curley and the former vice president Gary Schultz.

The university's handling of McQueary's report is expected to be a focal point of an investigative report commissioned by the university's board of trustees, which meets Thursday and Friday at the Worthington Scranton satellite campus in Dunmore.

John McQueary, the former head of a State College medical group, testified at Sandusky's trial last month that he discussed his son's report with Schultz a few months after the incident, during a previously scheduled business meeting with Schultz and Dranov.

"I made Mr. Schultz aware that I knew of this incident and understood that Mike had met with him and told Coach Paterno and I was inquiring as to what had been done, if they followed up on it, if any information was needed," John McQueary said. "Mr. Schultz said that he had heard noise about this before, earlier than Mike's report."

Dranov, who also testified at the trial, said he encouraged Mike McQueary to report the abuse to "his supervisor, who was Joe Paterno."

Dranov never said whether he confronted Paterno himself.

He had ample opportunity, treating Paterno for more than a decade after the report and standing by his side in his final hours.

According to will documents made public last week, Dranov signed Paterno's death certificate, confirming his Jan. 22 passing from a multi-organ system failure stemming from a months-long battle with metastatic small-cell carcinoma of the lung.

Weeks after Paterno's death, investigators from the state attorney general's office seized materials from various Penn State offices, including those of Paterno, Schultz and Spanier. At some point, according to court records, they also obtained materials from Dranov.

Dranov did not return a telephone message left at his home Monday. His secretary, returning a message left at his office, said he "has no comment at this time."

The university's covert handling of McQueary's report and Dranov's involvement as a witness and a Paterno confidante smacked of the closed nature of Paterno's football program, the insular ways of the university, and the interconnectedness of this sprawling community of students, alumni and academics.

Hey, don't forget about the wonderful Penn State alumni who just voted this guy on the university's board of trustees.

Yeah, we're totally generalizing. The Penn State community is a wonderful group marred by a handful of bad apples. Right.

The PSU board has pretty much done the right thing through all of this. The problem is that the alumni are livid at them for supposedly mistreating Paterno.

It's so colossally fucked. The alumni are mad at the wrong people for the wrong reasons.

It comes back (to me) that they had to have known about this story for years as well. These are people in a power position in a small town, some of them had to have known.

Some of the cops and prosecutors, from 1998, should be charged as well, for failing to do anything to the situation that was right in front of them.

It's possible that some knew, but it appears that Curley and Spanier did everything they could to keep them in the dark. I remember reading that multiple board members had no clue about the grand jury investigation.

Since the scandal broke, the board has done a pretty admirable job, but now the furious Paterno devotees are trying to crucify them.

Wonderful. FSU cornerback Greg Reid arrested last night in Georgia (his home state) for driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana. What an idiot. I doubt Jimbo would kick him off the team for this. He'll probably be suspended for the first two games (Murray St and Savannah St) maybe also game 3 (Wake Forest).

Blame West Virginia. They were supposed to be Game 2, but they fucking pulled out on us at the last minute, and Savannah State was the only replacement we could find. Bobby Bowden built this program by scheduling tough OOC teams for home-and-away series. He'd famously play ANYBODY in the country on their home turf so long as they were willing to come to Tallahassee as well. Jimbo has continued to follow that same formula, but those fucking asshole couch burners got cold feet. Cost us a shit load of money (even after they paid the cancellation penalty fee) and really hurt our strength of schedule for this year. I hope they lose every game in the Big XII.
