The ones who don't have a choice? Or is this a 1v5?

Obviously there is also jungling and tping involved to avoid ganks.

If your team can 4v5 pressure the other team, then any AGI carry would be ezez.

Even Spec, especially Spec.

Well, theory crafting is silly. All of the things mentioned will happen could happen it's not like you'll ever get straight up free farm or non stop ganks every game.

But yeah, that's why drow doesn't get picked in comp games. However, drow hits harder, pushes faster than both of those carries, and she does it with less farm.

Sand king can really handle himself in mid it seems. Had a captain's mode game; caustic finale or whatever his e is called is bloody great.

Had another captain's mode game where our captain wanted to test a theory as drow (aura stacking) then proceeded to feed clinkz then disconnected.

Anyone know if flooding the chatrooms with trade spam is enough of a reason to report people? Some channels are unreadable because of it, even the more private ones, not just regional. And yes, flooding, not 3 ads back to back or anything minor like that.

If there was a punishment in place to where they were banned ONLY from chat I would agree/go forth with some well deserved reports but I don't think a person should suffer consequences such being put in Low pool or something because of that. Granted it is really annoying.

Maybe they could limit the number of messages you can write. Could follow twitch whilst in slow mode and only allow one message every minute.

Could be a way to lock a private channel as well; those with passwords can get in obviously.

I got a key given to me for this today, I've probably looked at LoL once for about 20 minutes before this.

I played one game before walking away feeling both frustrated and angry.

It would be to easy for me to just write this game off as sucking, a lot of people must be playing it for a reason but as a complete noob it just has way to much going on at once for me to even know were to begin.

I got pretty good at watching that death timer count down though...

No offense but playing any game where you don't know what's going on and then even think of the option of writing it off because it sucks due to frustration is pretty stupid. With that said, did you jump straight into matchmaking or were you playing with bots? The game has a pretty high entry curve, but it's insanely rewarding.

I agree with you, but at the same time I've always had the opinion that a game should bend over backwards to make itself as accessible as possible to people and this game really didn't. I understand it's in beta still so maybe it will be easier to start when the tutorial is put in.

Also, I was careful to mention that I didn't write it off, just that in the heat of the frustration I had wanted to, as like you said, that would be pretty stupid.

I just feel that a game that is free to play especially needs to make the best first impression possible because otherwise, having spent no money getting it, I have basically nothing to keep me from a metaphorical table flip and uninstalling it.

Not going to give up though, I'd really like to see what all the fuss is about so I'm already reading threads and tutorials to try and be less of a feeder :)

Before I try investing more time, I'll ask one more time: Anyone know how long until I'm no longer matched with disconnecting players? Is there a certain number of matches before I get taken out of what I must assume is Low Priority (despite having never disconnected myself)?

And is there skill matching implemented yet? Either it's not or the slippery slope effect of this game's mechanics makes most low-level matches seemingly decided in the first 15-20 minutes...

That's exactly what I'm thinking, and I'm curious as to how Valve is going to combat it, if at all.

It's one thing to call people "stupid" for writing off a product because they didn't invest a minimum of 5-10 hours in your product just to get used to the basic game mechanics, but that's a luxury most developers can't afford. That doesn't imply the game is bad, just that expanding the audience will be difficult.

I have five friends that are hardcore MOBA players, and I'm the only one that wants to stick with Dota 2; all of them are going with LoL. Everyone likes to criticize LoL for being casual, but yet they also think Dota 2 will be more successful at expansion. How, exactly, is Dota 2 going to appeal to audiences LoL hasn't already captured, let alone beyond that? (Genuine question, and I interested in seeing Valve's response. I'm sure the Dota 2 store will make it a resounding financial success regardless.)

In regards to low priority, doesn't it show up in red text above the server choices (world map) when you click the play tab?

Pretty sure you can see it there in re: to how long you're stuck in LP

I will never call the genre MOBA but still...

But why Dota 2 will be more succesful? Because even Dota 1 is a much better game than LoL and also has a lot larger competitive community.
I wouldn't be surprised there are as many active players on Garena like clients as there is in players in LoL either.

There are more competitive players than casual players?

EDIT: And I don't see any red text on my world map... :(

Probably just an anomaly, but these 3v5 matches are getting frustrating, compounded by the hour-long matches.

No, yeah I agree completely. The eventual tutorial mode from what we've seen little of looks like it's going to be quite in depth. There are string lines for things like "Pudge hooking" and last hit training. The "Quest Mode" may also offer extended tutorials. I hope we hear more about that soon. Not having these introduction tutorials certainly affects new players and I hope they have them somewhat ready when they have enough server capacity to officially release the game. You're already ahead of a lot of other new people by checking out the tutorials. Good luck.

But then do you think Dota 2 will have an audience that is a subset of Dota 1? If not, then it will have to expand its audience. How will Dota 2 be more appealing to casual players than LoL?

Using conjecture pulled out of my ass:

Dota to LoL = fairly smooth transition. You already know the fundamentals and alot of things were removed. Still a few intricacies you have to learn (jungle timers, dragon and Baron)

LoL to Dota = Kinda rough, but not impossibly daunting if you are already decent at LoL. If you already know fundamentals (last hitting, lane control) then you already have a leg up versus someone who is new. Still lots of nuances you have to learn (big ones being courier and teleportation. Denying isn't a huge deal at the newbie level where everyone sucks imo)

Anything to HoN = :lol :lol :lol

Unless it states says so specifically, you're not in low priority. You're just in the newest new tier, presumably. Keep playing and it'll move you out of it. There is a hidden mmr that valve uses for matchmaking.

I never made this transition personally, but from what others have said it's not easy, don't expect to take off on a running start. As a dota/HoN player that played LoL afterwards I can tell you that the power curves for the heroes are entirely different, and that the high mana costs of spells will be jarring to you. As archie said, and the main reason I can't stand playing LoL, is that teleportation changes the game to a great extent, and you'll have to get used to that.

HoN plays like dota with faster animations, lower budget development, gimmicky f2p system, and smaller/shrinking community.

Servers go down occasionally, maybe a touch more often during the extra weight of the steam sale, but saying it's a "trial" to get into a game is a little much. Maybe you've just had bad luck. What do you mean by game failure?

Sand king tools on nerds. Caustic makes him really strong against melee mids, and you can still do pretty hot with stun/sandstorm builds against ranged heroes if you have decent rune control.
