My go to plan for transferring: - Buy XL. - Go to a Best Buy where there's an Ambassador 3DS on display. - System Transfer to the XL. - Wait a week due to transfer limit. - Transfer account from my own original 3DS to the XL. - Sell original 3DS. - Both eShop accounts do indeed merge (confirmed via Nintendo's website) - Have Ambassador games on XL with my original 3DS account transferred over. - Profit. I'm a fucking genius, but it's all of the matter of luck of the draw.

I feel theres a vital flaw you are missing here, for a 3DS to be of Ambassador Status. It has to be more than just a pre-price drop model

1) Gaining Ambassador status actually hinged on connecting to e-shop before the day of the price-drop, as well as your 3DS being a pre-price-drop model.

2) The ambassador status is tied to your Club Nintendo account as well as the system you were using, the transfer hands over the system rights to the software and your account + it's history but I don't believe it would merge 2 different accounts. (unless someone corrects me, I know it will merge the same e-shop account)

3) Even assuming you got it to work by some amazing happenstance, you would need to know the details of the account, or forever forgo Club Nintendo coins on downloadables. But again, odds of a demo 3DS having any personal online account are super slim

It's a cute idea, but I think you just have to accept the ambassador ship long has since sailed into the sunset.

A White or Pink XL with a Kirby 20th logo w/ Mass Attack included would make me very happy. A Green one with LM2 would also please me. Gold w/ NSMB2, White w/ Pkmn White 2, Black w/ Pkmn Black 2... there's a lot they can do. I just hope that they don't half ass it, or give the special color to the OG 3DS.

I just want something that isn't X/Black. The Red (and Silver) looks nice but I know I'll regret getting it down the road

Basically confirmed now the XL has a 75% reduced screen glare. So hopefully no more seeing yourself in the screen. Might help trying to play it outside. If its not to sunny I guess.

I lucked out. My Stepson was part rewarded (paid for most with his saved allowance), with a 3DS on launch. I thought it was a pretty cool system. I picked up an iPad 2 that March, instead. Then as Ita was rolling around E3 that year and the system was building hype (o set launch), I decided to either preorder Vita or pick up a 3DS right then. I checked Walmart.com, saw a sale price of $169. Went to the store, saw it was still $249. Asked about the pricing difference, got no real info. Decided, on my way home from work the following day, to stroll in to Walmart and just buy the thing and get a price adjustment if I dropped down shortly after. What do ya know? They had it for $169. This was August 10. Apparently, lucked out and was able to be an "ambassador", because of a retailer screw up. So both my little guy and I have ambassador 3DS units (rolled mine from the Aqua to Purple).

Fittingly, the Aqua unit needed repair by Nintendo - karma right? But I've since warmed to the platform, and when anyone mentions gaming I recommend 3DS if they loved the gameplay/styles/genres of the beloved PS2/GCN era. Favorite handheld, to me.

Can't wait for the XL - switched order from red to blue, but now, I'm on the fence again. Hopefully you guys will post great pics from EU/JP launch, which happens before the US launch. Then I will have an idea of which color looks better in real life (house lighting, outside lighting, etc)...

The XL is not a supplant, just an alternate model. Most people will still pick the cheaper, current 3DS model over an XL at retail. I think that's the normal DSi, not the XL, but anyway a Wii bundled with a DSi is awesome, and it comes with two games and Mario Galaxy OST which is great.

So I finally played one today :D
Despite reading every post here and watching a ridiculous amount of people fumbling around with the handheld on YouTube, all I can say is..... my body was not ready.

The most striking thing about the XL, despite it being bigger and heavier than the 3DS, is how thin/small and light it feels in the hand. It's very solid and well built in comparison to the OG model and is more comfortable to hold and play by far.
The minor adjustments are all appreciated (multi-screen positions, clickable 3D slider, LED re-positioning) whereas the major (matte finish, stylus position, SCREENS) definitely remedy everything that was wrong with the initial model.
The screens are very slightly dimmer and are also as unfortunately reported slightly softer.
Your millage may vary on this however. Admittedly I am rather pedantic regarding displays, the person I was with could notice no difference, despite having the XL side-by-side with an OG 3DS.....
The sheer size of the screens however outweigh whatever 'imperfections' (I use that word generously) are present, though to comment on them is slightly pointless, it wasn't until having the screens right in front of my face that I got why they are a big deal.
They are a big deal. The screens are amazing!

I'm extremely excited to receive my unit now, going to replay my entire collection :)

Of course I would. When I'm playing it, people will actually see the art correctly. Or if I want to display it with a collection, I can put it on the shelf with the top open and facing outward. The way they currently do special DS art, it'd be upside down.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but I was looking at Engadget's review of the 3DS XL and it looks like transferring will be fairly simple:

But weren't the Mario/Zelda DSiXL/3DS created for 25th anniversary's? Neither series has an anniversary this year. The Zelda 3DS is just a Cosmo black 3DS with some gold paint...nothing too extraordinary/different. The base color was already existing. For Kirby's anniversary, they could just spruce up the misty pink 3DS...

Changing the color of the plastic shouldn't cost much at all, and making it a good color could persuade even more people to buy a 3DS/XL, myself included. If there is any sign of White or any other solid, I will get it day 1, as would others I would assume.

Not releasing White in America (and Europe) is downright baffling, really, especially seeing as it's a sleek, nice looking color that stands out and doesn't look overly toy-like. I'm also pretty sure that it's going to be the more prominently advertised model in Japan.

Red, White, Blue XL's for the USA! C'mon Nintendo...

So glad I moved my preorder to blue. There were some really 'saturated' in color, pics of the blue unit - a few pages back. It looked unlike all other previews of the blue XL. This confirms that it looks really sharp, nicer in appearance than the red. More sleek, matches the blue front led light, too.
