All I know is that tessellation is utilized very poorly in every game that used it so far, and it's going to stay like that for a while. Until consoles "popularize" it. :P |

Well, according to their site it looks like it's going to be used by certain games, but what I'm getting from their site is that they're used in a bunch of other industries like animation, "serious games", and various other 3d simulation software.

You should take a look at Gothic 3's trees. They were rendered using speedtree, but the developers created their own tree-assets around the technology and made very diversified realistic looking trees / woods.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. But then there are games that seem to use speedtree as an excuse to put no effort into their vegetation. Oblivion for example. I absolutely cannot stand foliage that rotates with the camera. Wiggly leaves like the way they're animated in that video too. It kills the whole experience for me.
