I actually agree with the OBC here. Suspending a guy due to anything related to alcohol other than being caught for drunk driving is pretty silly. It sounds like he just had some in his system?

This kind of thing is hard to do in a stadium though. At Doak, you can tell that different sections of the stands are hearing the drum beat for the war chant at different times, due to the speed of sound. Everybody syncs up pretty quick, but initially the south side (where the band is) is a bit ahead of the north side because they are hearing the music sooner.

Yeah, I kind of hate our national anthem, but I can't stand it when people fuck around during it.

I don't think I've ever seen it happen in this neck of the woods, though.

Yeah, when I'm on my way to Stillwater listening to OU's game, they always play it. It's one thing to fuck around with "the rockets' red glare," or whatever, but they're shouting over the one part of the anthem that is meant to pay specific tribute to combat veterans.

It's a "tradition" at this point, mainly perpetuated by the trailer park types (that is to say, every OU fan who isn't an alum).

...

One OSU "tradition" I hate: the OSU band plays "Friends in Low Places" in the fourth quarter and expects the stadium to sing along, and nobody does. It's just lame.

Texas fans have a couple things I could do with out.

"Make them eat shit" during the fight song is the thing I hate the most.

I also didn't like the "joke" version of spelling out Texas during March Grandioso. Though, I think it's more or less dead at this point since biting cultural references such as "Easy E" and "Malcom X" aren't really relevent anymore.

Other than that: Stop selling students tickets in the upper deck. They all sneak down and overcrowd the lower deck seating for students.. making it look as though 4-5 sections are empty in the upper deck.

Honestly, March Grandioso is played waaaaay too much, and too long. I do it for the first two verses, but then they keep playing it for another 5. And they do it three or four more times in a game. I hate that song.

I prefer "Make 'em eat shit" to "Go horns, go". The words are already messed up if you say that. It should be "The gang's all here"

It used to be the "Hail, Hail the gangs all here"

But they relented to student changes back in the 70s and changed the words of the first part to "give em hell, give em hell". Necessitating a stupid second verse.

We should just change it back.

There's a awkward pause in the middle of one of our fight songs (Buckeye Battle Cry) where nobody knows exactly what to say.

The official lyrics are "C'mon, Ohio!" but nobody, save the band, actually says it because the pause is so brief, and most just say "O-HI-O!" instead.

It's weird.

Holding up 4 fingers at the beginning of the 4th quarter. As far as I'm concerned, you've only earned the right to hold up 4 fingers after you've destroyed the other team in the 4th. I know everybody does this, but it doesn't mean anything.

I think it started as a way to remind players to "finish" in the 4th even with a big lead.. i.e. don't sleep on an opponent.

I think it's lost all meaning.

Texas State has a weird tradition where the students all jangle their keys in the 4th quarter. No one could tell me why. Or at least not consistently. One student said it's to make fun of alumni who leave during the 4th quarter (get your keys out), another said it was a reminder *not* to leave early. This was like 10 years ago, I have no idea if it is still a tradition or not. Considering the student section there was like 50 people, it might have just been a group of friends who decided to do it.

Semi-relevent now that they are in the bowl subdivision now.

Colorado does this for "key" plays.

It's like 5 seconds of drunken key jangling, followed by 15 seconds of drunken dropped key retrieval.

You are supposed to shake your keys to tell the opposing team to go home because they are certainly going to lose. Usually after a td that clinches the game.

Pfft, that's nothing. Here is FSU's entire fight song

Quote:
You got to fight, fight, fight, for FSU!
You got to scalp 'em Seminoles!
You got to win, win, win, win this game,
and roll on down and make those goals!

For FSU is on the warpath now,
And when the battle ends she's great!
So fight, fight, fight for victory!,
The Seminoles of Florida State!

F-L-O-R-I-D-A S-T-A-T-E
Florida State, Florida State, Florida State!
Woooooooooooooooo!
You will be hard pressed to find more than 10% of the student section that knows more than just:

This. Except too many FSU fans do it going into every 4th quarter regardless of the score. I've seen it done with only 3 points separating the teams, with tie scores, and I have even seen some real idiots doing it when we are losing going into the 4th. They clearly don't know why they are doing it and must think that you are supposed to do it every time just for fun or something. Idiots.

Personally, my threshold is two touchdowns minimum, but not always if I think it is still a close game. I'll almost always do it if it's 17+ points.

Considering the student section there was like 50 people, it might have just been a group of friends who decided to do it.

Semi-relevent now that they are in the bowl subdivision now.
Minnesota jingles their keys everytime they kick off. It doenst make barely any sound and looks dumb.

Couple things to note, Matt Millen is paired with Tessitore, which is a shame. Matt Millen is a douche.

More importantly, the lack of Craig James.

Nessler and Blackledge still best duo in the sport, they should be the main ABC game.

whats the lowest point in the recent past under spaz? losing to nevada in a bowl game? losing to duke?

yeah, after going undefeated since late January and obliterating Minnesota in the semis 6-1. Nobody was stopping last year's team after the Beanpot, they were an absolute juggernaut.

Anyway, back to our shameful football program. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone here that actually goes to the games for the football. We go just to go. That loss to Duke was disgusting. Another brilliant moment from last year that sticks in my memory is spaz deciding to run the ball on 3rd and 25.

now that Luke is gone I fear for how terrible this upcoming season is going to be.
