I thought you were supposed to be able to play the WiiU version with your 3DS version? Or has that not been confirmed? If that is the case, then there can't be any big differences and it's really just the 3DS port of the game which I suppose has its advantages with the dual-screen play and all carrying over.

I think all that's been confirmed is that the two can connect in someway. I'm not ruling out crossplay but it's not a very interesting prospect to me, and doesn't seem like something that either Sakurai or Nintendo would use as a big selling point. This is all assuming the 3DS version even ends up being made which I've had my doubts about from the beginning

If I recall Smash ended up split amongst many threads. Japan Time died a slow death as some clinged on to each update even if they knew everything. Then there were spoiler threads revealing everything the moment the game hit Japan. There was also a screenshot thread. Back then threads could just turn into an OT without it needing to be called an OT.

Now that Nintendo is apparently catering to perverts ( according to some on that Fire Emblem thread) could it extend to Smash DLC? Everyone can get the Nana maid costume they all have been clamouring for.

Perverts and Pedos, got to cover all those negative bases because loli dragon girl or something.
If Nana gets a maid outfit it's only fair that Popo gets to be like a butler or waiter or something like that, best DLC costume right there.

Quote:
Masahiro Sakurai, the man behind the Super Smash Bros. franchise, has teased what fans can expect from the next entry in the series.

Up until now very little has been revealed about the as-yet-untitled Smash Bros. game planned for Nintendo's Wii U and 3DS, aside from the fact it's being developed by Namco.

We've already seen how a number of games plan to integrate the Wii U's GamePad, but we've yet to hear how the fourth instalment of the all-star brawl 'em up will do the same. While Sakurai wasn't ready to reveal everything, he explained to IGN that the company was looking into ways that worked specifically with Wii U's new hardware, explaining "The GameCube controller is not the only way to control Smash Bros., so we will look into ways that fits the Wii U."

Previous entries in the series have offered a fairly robust selection of control schemes, so it makes sense the next game will do the same. But while Sakurai admits the company needs to adapt to incorporate new controller options, he's adamant the rest of the game doesn't need to change to remain fresh. Having had three very successful entries in the franchise, the Project Sora boss feels the series has found its target audience, meaning introducing gimmicks would hinder rather than help the brand.

"The game system itself is complete, so we don’t want to make it 3D or introduce complicated controls just for the sake of it," he said. "However, I am thinking of ways we can introduce a slightly different, fun experience all the while keeping the usual frantic game play."

Quite what this different experience may be is unclear, though we've previously reported rumblings about Tekken cameos, which would certainly shake things up. The chances of this actually coming to pass, though, seem quite remote, especially with Sakurai being unconvinced by the idea.

"I think Snake and Sonic joining were fantastic. It made many fans happy, and it broadened the Smash Bros arena," he said. "However, introducing more non-Nintendo characters willy-nilly will lose the focus of the game, so I also recognise the need to narrow it down."

Super Smash Bros. 4 is in development for Wii U and 3DS, with a release expected sometime in 2013.

Even with Namco onboard, I'll still be very surprised if we see either version out before Q1 2014 at the earliest. Then again, if he already has the engine down then maybe it'll come earlier than expected.

Yeah, Q1 2014 is a safe bet.

E3 2013 will roll around and they'll announce Smash for holiday 2013. Then it gets delayed to March 2014. Circle of life.

Hopefully this will keep people quiet about Tekken and Tales characters.

Anybody want to take any bets if we'll be getting a Super Smash Bros trailer in September?

Yep, reading all the speculation about various absurd third party characters is annoying, I hope this stops people expecting half the roster to be Namco characters

I still can't comprehend this. I mean sure you could argue "precedence" with Wii's unveiling and software montages, but in this particular situation you pretty much had Sakurai reasoning to you saying "look, we don't have shit son, I'm not even fucking with you this time" and people still believed.

It's pretty hilarious looking back 5 years and seeing how many obvious candidates for Brawl still had people insisting they were unlikely or would never be featured. Dedede and Diddy are prime examples of this, but I guess at the time I also figured Goroh and Ridley were shoe-ins as well. :(

Dixie hate around the time Diddy was announced is also kind of funny given she was planned but cut.

I suppose I could have asked in the Sakurai thread in Gaming, but I do think that there must be some people who didn't like them. Maybe the slow tease was too much. Perhaps they wanted more substantial trailers at a much less frequent pace.

I wasn't lurking around that time, so it's very interesting to go back and read the thread. Everyone was so excited about online play.

I'm personally torn. I felt like there was nothing to figure out by the time the game hit (although my memory may be fuzzy due to the leaks). Still, having an update every day was nice. Full character updates were very cool.

I do think the reveal was executed very well. I read that thread as well. The conference is over. Nobody expects much. The initial reports followed by a slow trickle of information until the trailer was unveiled must have been incredible.

Yeah, Dojo didn't go into any unlockable content before the game came out in Japan, but there were leaks so that might be what you're remembering. The delay in different regions *did* lead to the site covering most secrets before the US and PAL releases though. Hopefully that could be averted this time by making just one worldwide release date.

Minor thought, but for the next Sonic stage (let's be frank, it's very likely he'd return), pull a Mushroom Kingdom/MKII and have the drowning theme play when ~11 seconds are left on the clock. :D

A sidescrolling stage like Mushroom-y Kingdom that scrolls through maybe all the Sonic 1 zones would be awesome.

Similar idea I had when I wound up finding Mushroomy Kingdom really dull was having it be more of a tour of every World 1-1 in every SMB, flowing from SMB to SMB2 to SMB3 to World to NSMB as the music changes dynamically when the different parts flow into each other.

I was talking about how the Melee stages played the "Hurry Up!" or boss themes at 30 seconds, for Mushroom Kingdom and Mushroom Kingdom II respectively, but sure.

If they keep Green Hill Zone from Brawl and make a new Sonic stage, do you think it'll be from the Genesis era or post-Genesis era? I wouldn't be too surprised if City Escape got in. Would be pretty awesome to have the overkill Truck with buzzsaws and rocket boosters going around the stage as a hazard.

Of all the locations in the Sonic series championing a generic city seems a bit wasteful, surely it's not just because of a presumed hard on for the stage theme?

When it comes to Sonic, I'm personally rather tired of Casinos, Beaches, and Hills.

It'd be nice to see stuff like Flying Battery, Sandopolis, or Lava Reef.

If they put in Ice Cap, they should make it where the level changes to where there's a certain point where you're snowboarding.

In the interest of time, stages now mix between franchises. Sky Sanctuary now acts as Sonic's stage and Pit's.

But seriously, an Eggman factory stage would be pretty cool. If it was Planet Wisp, it'd be similar to the Generations version with tons of sawblades. (And "Metallic Madness Present (J)" would be an alt music. You know you want it.)

Only reason I brought up City Escape is because it seems to be the most iconic (if not behind Emerald Coast) post-Genesis Sonic stage . At least because of the undeserved popularity Sonic Adventure 2 has. Classic fans gets their Green Hill and Modern fans gets their City Escape! But this is really just going by something I can honestly see them doing.

...But eh, if I was given a choice, I'd totally go for Death Egg to be honest. I'd love to see that Death Egg Robot wrecking the platforms as everyone fights each other. Plus dat Generations remix of the Sonic 2 Final Boss.
