Mmm Korean BBQ ahhhggg:
![]() I'm glad we're sticking with the original plan. I have a massive craving for this stuff. The description of one the restaurants that Gabroni listed is making me extremely giddy and hungry. I dunno people still want to meet up in the day (which could be done), but I would be down for that. I hope most of you guys don't end up bailing out; late or not, I'm still gonna be there. I might still bring my camera at the very least. Now where are Mahonay and bob page at (well bob page is on my FB)? That said, I'm really looking forward to seeing some new faces as well catch up with the regulars. Now let's hope some more people pop in here to say that they're going 100% for sure (If you're reading this, I better see you at the next one OogieBoogie!).

Just a quick page update.
The meetup will be on August 25, 2012 at Mandangusi. It's a Korean BBQ place that offers a nice atmosphere for groups, and it's good food. It's also in Midtown and pretty close to all subways. Work was extra busy today, and I'm working a double the next two days. This weekend, I'm planning on giving the restaurant a call and giving them a heads up that we'll have at least ten people showing for the meetup. Please, if you have not checked in or are not on the list, post in the thread. The earlier I have a head count, the easier this whole process will be. Finally, please specify what time is best for each of you. I'm thinking we'll meet at the restaurant at like 6-7PM, but if anyone would like to meet earlier or later, post please. |

7PM is perfect. It gives us lots of time to chow, talk, and the like and hit up other places e.g. a couple of watering holes, or and things like that. Asian people are a must for this meet up because I know absolutely nothing about Korean food other than kimchee and these famous ribs I've been reading so much about. Also the soju.
I'll suggest people rendezvous at 6:30pm (provided, I don't procrastinate and get my ass out of the house by 6 which I promise to do this time around; scout's honor :D) at Herald Square at the tables in front of Gamestop to shoot the breeze and whatnot. The recommended amount of money to bring is a minimum of $40-$50 (something like 32 for the food w/tip included, the rest would be for other activities) from the looks of it. If people need each other's numbers, you can PM a couple of people that 100% going (such as me). Let's do this.

Oh yeah? Which college? You should still come out and join us since it's going to be in the night unless you'll be moving stuff throughout the whole day in which case, I understand. But I highly encourage you to come if you can make it; the more, the merrier.

Well ain't that a bummer. OogieBoogie would like to do a special performance of the hit Broadway play L-sit to Handstand for us. :D A Sunday meet up would be a bit too exhausting after a night out and with school looming the very next day afterwards. That can be arranged though since most places close by 8 or 10 (save for bars). Unless you would be down to make it to the eventual September meet up(s) which is still in the planning stages (I have a few ideas in my head; banners and the like) but I'll discuss that in due time. For now, we focus on the present and discuss the meet ups to come in another 2 weeks or so (but I will keep hinting at it, so don't mind me).

And? You'll need something to do at night.
I promise I won't get white girl wasted again. That Artichoke pizza made me all kinds of fucked up. Never again. Oh and we all owe minty. He's a genuine boss. |

I will not be getting drunk once again that's for sure. 3 beers tops (and maybe 1 mixed drink) with low alcohol per volume and I'm done. I don't want to make a fool of myself like I did back in May. Nobody wants to see Jipan Smacks a Bum on the Knee II: The Bum Strikes Back. Thankfully the dinner beforehand will negate any chances of me getting hammered. To facilitate a little bit of discussion, has anyone had real Korean food? If so, what's some of the best stuff you've had? I had some cheap stuff from a restaurant across the street in Korea Way but it wasn't the real stuff. I heard the best Korean food is at Flushing though. I dunno if it's true since I don't really know the area.
In other news, I have downloaded the fonts that I'm going to use to make the September meetup banners. It's going to be a back to school theme so expect to see chalkboard fonts/banners and maybe a place or two that's "educational" to tie into the theme e.g. an art gallery or a meetup at The Met (with the idea being a multiple part meetup spread out across a few days) for a "field trip." Maybe even GAF meetup vets that are teachers for the day; who knows. If anyone wants to volunteer make the September thread, feel free to say so. For the time being though, I will orchestrate the thread for a second time (I pray that I won't be super busy that month though) until further notice. I wonder whatever happened to captmcblack. He said he was going to show up to the last meet up. He said the same thing about the meet up before that and yet he's still a no show. Maybe we'll see someone who looks like him but isn't him again. :D

So it looks like this summer will be ended the right way. I'm going to Atlantic City on August 22 til August 24, then hanging out with y'all the next day. I've made it clear for nearly a month now with all three of my jobs that I'm unavailable that entire week.

I found out that I have a meeting the very next day after the meet up. On a Sunday. -_- I'm still going to the meetup but don't see myself waking up by 10 to make it. Gonna be too tired from the meetup. GAF meetups come first above everything else. Ah well onwards and forward. Expect to see me with a haircut (or with my long hair intact which I intend to cut off on Sunday if anything).
I'm going to PM captmcblack, Mahonay, and maybe one or two other people. If you guys want anyone that you haven't seen to come, send them a friendly PM with a link to the thread. It got MrOogieBoogie's attention. It's too bad he hasn't been able to make it but it did the trick. By the way to remind any CUNY Gaffers, there's exactly 2 weeks left of liberty as of today so enjoy it while it lasts. Yay to going back to school! Nay to all the stress that comes with it.

I didn't want to confirm my attendance at this meet up because I don't want anyone to be like "man, he never comes anymore, where's captmcblack" if something comes up and I can't make it...but since it happened already, fuck it - yolo. I'll come to this meetup. It's right after payday, too. :) Note: I will be drinking. I hope people will be down to grab a drink or three afterwards too. |

Of course, the Korean restaurant is just the tip of the iceberg; we will be hitting up a couple of places (possibly bars) after that for sure. It's not going to be as simple as eating and calling it a night because like all GAF meet ups in general, they end with a bang.

Yeah probably not going to AC now. I was given two free rooms by a casino, but that week is completely booked.
***Please, if you have not indicated if you're coming, please do so within the next 18 hours. I am going to finalize our reservation and need a proper headcount. |

Since I'm super bored, I decided to get to work on the September Meetup thread banner in advance. It's my most original banner yet; I drew in the doodles (good practice for my digital drawing skills) and that is indeed my handwriting at the bottom. The only things that aren't mine are the fonts. Everything else was made from scratch. I plan on making about 2-4 sub banners. Expect them to be school themed/creative. I might even draw the cartoon faces of a few veteran Gaffers under the attendance list because I'm cool like that.
Here's a sneak peek for you all. Note: It's a work in progress. I'm about 75% done with it. It still needs a couple of small touches, moving of layers, and a few other changes before I'm satisfied with it. This confirms that the September meetup thread is going to happen: EDIT: Apologies for the -PXG- train travel sized pictrure. It threw the thread out of whack.

Sweet! A party of 30+ people is a pretty big crowd. We haven't had this many people come out to a GAF meet up since back when EviLore came into town. I suppose this is the byproduct of placing it in at a place where age isn't a limit. This is meet up that everyone wanted and now it's almost here.
Like I previously said, if anyone wants to meet up early to shoot the breeze, I'll be at 34th around 6-6:30. I'll probably be browsing clothes at Macy's before heading to Gamestop and/or Manhattan mall to shoot the breeze there for a bit. If it rains then meet up under the bank's scaffold near Korea Way. If it doesn't rain, then rendezvous in front of Gamestop or inside Manhattan Mall. Oh and bring an empty stomach (or at least a light stomach). A quick side note: I'm going to Barcade on the 24th (the night before the meet up) to network with the guys from nycgameindustry. Drinks are going to be on special courtesy of them (provided you get a bracelet from them), so anyone is welcome to join me on that night (21 is a must). Now if only SolarPowered could show up. I think I'll send him a PM. Also Mahonay, if you're out there reading this, I tried to send you a PM, but you disabled it. If can make it, then come. Who will I lean on if I get super hammered? j/k :p I'll probably be there after 8 (the people get there at 7) for an hour or two depending if I feel bored. I'll bring it up again some time next week to see if anyone's down to go (I don't want to go by myself). Note: I'm only having two drinks tops but I'll be playing a few arcades. @-PXG-, BYOB is definitely out of the question now. People will probably be consuming beer at the restaurant though if anything. Bars are confirmed at this point as much as it pains me to say it (we're for sure going to leave a few people out though :( ). I'll most definitely be down to go bar crawling afterwards though depending on what people decide to do. EDIT: For any one who's interested, here's the menu. I'll be down to chip in for a bottle of Soju (or maybe foot the whole thing since we owe mintylurb big time; need to bring a decent amount of money). I need to have have some Soju since I've never had it. Also 6 bucks a pop for beer is not bad at all. They even have sake. So many exotic drinks to try out!

Check your PMs.
Anyway I should be able to make it. I'm moving apartments at the end of the month, so that weekend will be chock full of packing. This will probably be my only outing that weekend, and I'm spending it with randos I met on a gaming website. .... Nice. |

I think we'll definitely be moving away from the area afterwards. Unless anyone wants to experience some deja vu and go revisit Third and Long across the street from Bare Burger (which I thought was an o.k. bar; it was a little bit too loud and crowded at the time). To Union Square, Chelsea, the LES? Who knows? Let's go with the flow. I'm sure we have a couple of street smart Gaffers in the party any way.

If you feel that making a new thread is really necessary and will attract more people, then by all means do it. But I would recommend PM'ing a mod to update the title with the place and time or at least merge this thread with the new thread to continue the discussion.
Maybe I'll change the September thread subtitle to "Back to Reality Edition" to keep it more general/reference the song with the same name while still keeping the school theme. Chalkboards are also associated with bars, so I'll be playing around with some pictographs to depict activities.
