$300 - With a Nintendo Land download ticket included.

Will buy with Pikmin 3, Zombi U and some downloadable stuff. (If Toki Tori 2, Bit Trip Runner and Trine 2 make it for launch.)

...I'll probably still be playing Xenoblade.

While I doubt there's going to be anywhere near as much demand for the WiiU as there was for the original Wii, I don't know why you wouldn't just preorder it as a precaution. Assuming you want the thing, that is.

Which... they really need to convince people of right now.

I just do it so I don't have to go to a damn midnight

I'll probably get one just because I'm dying for some new hardware, and I'm not a handheld guy

Do we know if the Pro Controllers plug right into the system itself or if it's a daisy chain deal like the CCP?

I have three things to say to this.

How exactly do you know it's the same as the current generation?

How many people actually care about graphics?

A lot of people already have a PS3 or a 360.

While I'm curious about price and release date, there's no way I can buy a Wii U before mid-2013.

The ability to play my Wii stuff on Wii U is a godsend. I have invested a fortune in Wii software and Virtual Console games and I did not want to lose any of that should the Wii die.

I expect 300$, but NintendoLand not being packed in would be a missed opportunity, especially if it's not a 10-15$ digital title.

I think they will bundle Nintendoland with the WiiU (in NA at least) for 3 reasons.

1. They want as many people to experience it as possible.
2. Nintendo of America has said that this is the Wii Sports of this generation.
3. It increases the perceived value Reggie has been saying every time they ask him about the price.

Consoles don't always launch with a pack-in title. I'm not sure if Nintendo will include Nintendo Land, but I won't be surprised if it's not in the box.

Nintendo Land could probably sell millions at full price. I don't see them pricing Wii U below $300, with or without Nintendo Land.

I honestly forget... I had a friend who was a manager that clued me in on the date, so I just showed up when the store opened that day and did it. But, even then, it was one of those deals where you still had to try to get near the front of the line with the other pre-orderers on launch day, since store delivery quantities on day 1 weren't guaranteed (and sales weren't prioritized by the date/time of your preorder). Maybe it was different elsewhere, but that's how it went down for me.

Come to think of it, I don't think that the GameStop pre-order start for the 3DS was "officially" announced either (it was just spread through places like GAF). Am I remembering right?

When did pre-orders start for the 3DS and Wii? I'll be shocked if this thing launches in October.

I'm thinking $299, no pack-in.

This.

Remember that Nintendo said that they would give out information after the American release of New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS) ?

The game is release on August 19... therefore a Nintendo Direct on August 21 or 22 (Tuesday or Wednesday) would be quite a nice timing for the Wii U release date and price reveal...

C'mon Nintendo!!! Give me dates!!! At least for the Nintendo Direct x33

What are the chances of the Pro Controller being included? It's said to be "for third parties", but getting one in the box would make it get much more support.

Probably 0% because the GamePad has all the functionality of the Pro Controller.

Likely the correct stance on the matter, yet I can't help but wonder just what they're gonna include with all this talk of "perceived value", in the case Nintendo Land doesn't make it.

also, i'm in the 300 bones club with nintendoland pack-in, although i do like colonel mustard's idea of a download voucher being included instead. gives them even more of a margin cushion (if only slight), but i could also see them including a form you could mail out to get the game on disc with paying a 'shipping & handling fee' for users who say they don't have internet (or just want a physical disc....).

$249 would be crazy, but in a good way. however i just don't see a pack-in also being included in that price point.

If to be believed, an NOA rep may have confirmed black Wii U launch color from an e-mail response to a reader of a banned Nintendo website.

Quote:
"Finally, I can confirm that the Wii U will be released in both Black and White. In case you hadn't yet had the opportunity, I wanted to let you know that everything we have available to share regarding Wii U has been added to our website. Here's a direct link:

http://www.nintendo.com/wiiu

Additional details (like price and release date) will be unveiled later this year; however, we don't have any specific
dates or events to announce yet. I encourage you to keep checking our website's "What's New" section (http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew) for the latest information.

Thanks again for your email!

Sincerely,

Jay Dean

If true I wonder how they will go about manufacturing the two. 50/50? It seems at least from this forum and a few others I lurk at that black is really the most wanted one. I wonder if they are doing market research for this and then will maybe manufacture the amounts accordingly. Who knows though, maybe it's just gaming forums where black is the preferred color but if they do some surveys of the more casual crowd maybe white is about the same or possibly even more in demand.

I'd personally get either color if only one was available at the store I'm at, but I'd much rather prefer the black one.

Yeah, I don't see the big problem with just two launch colors.

Game Informer 2011 Interview with Miyamto about home console launch colors:

Quote:
“Based on my background as an industrial designer and Nintendo and my background in creating entertainment, I’ve always wanted to make greater use of color in our hardware. If you look back on things like the Famicom and the original Super Nintendo, they were a lot more colorful from a hardware perspective."
Quote:
"What we found over the years when we included a lot of different colors in our hardware is people would kind of point to that and use it to paint us as more kid-oriented. So really what we looked at is what are some ways from a design perspective that can make the system appeal to all ages One of the ways that we found to best do that is to minimize the use of color. In that process we asked if we’re going to do that, what’s the best way to go? We found that rather than going all black - all white seems to have a broader appeal to people.”

The question is, do I want Gamestop to screw me over on my pre-order like they did when X360 launched in '05.

I went in and paid for the Pro Xbox 360 system in full in July for the Nov. release. I was number 8 on the list. They call me 2 days before launch to tell me there's a manufacturer shortage and they were only going to get 4 systems in ... for the entire year. I found out later from a friend that worked there that they actually got 12 systems in on launch day but the manager, several employees, and their buddies hoarded all of them to sell on eBay because they knew ahead of time about the shortage.
