Hey that's my name too! HIGH FIVE!

I don't go to gamestop too often, but once when my friend bought god of war 3 he opened the case and it was the god of war collection instead. He had to go back and there and get it from them. Kinda sucks that these simple mistakes are made, but hey you cant be perfect.

Videogame stores are not as bad as US Gamestop (at least in Spain) but I have one where I stumbled upon a dumbass clerk in a GAME.

I was going to buy a DS some months before the PSP launched and the guy was refusing to sell me one and insisting on up-selling me a PSP pre-order instead. I had to insist on him to shut up and sell me the damn DS and that I was not interested in a PSP for 100€ more but I finally said "whatever, it looks like you don't want my money so I'll go buy the DS somewhere else" loud enough so the manager could hear it. I heard an uproar as I was walking out.

Usually they're just nice and "by the way is there something you want to preorder? Ok, here you have the receipt, goodbye" but I barely go to retail stores anymore since I import most stuff from the UK.

Go to gamestop and ask for L4D 360, new.

He says "you're in luck, we have one copy left"

I watch him go to the display shelf and grab the case, then go to the desk and pull out the disc form the drawer.

We go back and forth, me saying it's not new, him saying it hasn't been used. I say I'll pay used price if that's all he has. He insists that it's new - I say I don't care, an opened package is not considered new - there's no way to tell if it's actually been used or not. Him - "then why do you care?"

I go to target only to realize it's on sale (new of course) for $20 less than the "new" copy at gamestop. I never go to gamestop again.

Yeah, I can imagine that if you know your stuff, working there or visiting the store as a customer both becomes way more pleasant and helps selling more eventually.

He said, "we get our information directly from Nintendo. It's March 12th."

I said, " *shakes head* you guys are GAMESTOP...you guys have like ZERO credibility."

He said, "whatever, dude...believe what you want."

I said, "tell me why I have a reservation ticket from another GameStop for February 10th?"

He said, "it was delayed...even Wal-Mart knows this!"

I said, "I just reserved it for February 10th from a GameStop from Rancho Cucamonga! (next city over to mine)" ( I didn't actually reserve it, my friend did)

He said, "they haven't been updated on the release date, yet"

I said, "I used to work for Toys R Us several years back" (in 1999 through 2002) "And they have the release date for February 10th. They even have actual printed reservation flyers and are hung next to the Wii games. Toys R Us has EXCLUSIVES they give out with Nintendo games. They are like the Cadillac of toy stores. They are reliable, always have been."

He said, "...okay..."

I said, "so don't feed people your bull**** lies and stop spreading these stupid rumors. You only lose credibility on your company's behalf and only add that much more hatred towards your stores. You rip people off, you buy their games for like pennies of what they're actually worth. You practically rob people, and sell games for WAY too much than they're actually worth."

He said, "we're actually the most trusted videogame retailer"

I said, "on by ignorant middle school kids who don't know any better... and you know what? I'm close friends with my old boss from Toys R Us. I worked in RZone (the videogame department), so I pretty much have more experience over you about how things work with retailers, truck loads, shipment dates, contract releases, etc."

He said, "And? I already told you we got our release date directly from Nintendo themselves, and we are a trusted company with reliable sources...how much more reliable can you get from Nintendo themselves?"

I said, "...just stop pulling **** outta your *** and be honest to the rest of these kids who are asking for Brawl. Because I pretty much already saw Toys R Us's shipment dates and their catalog of what's to be shipped to our store for the next 30 days. We're getting 105 copies of Brawl on the 5th of February, shipped from San Francisco...wherever San Francisco get them from, I have no idea."

He said, "........"

I said, "....yeah... These are some of the huge quirks of being an RZone worker for 2.5 years, building a close friendship with your manager, and working as a young 16 year old high school videogamer. And at 24, I still get these quirks of seeing my old store's shipment data sheets."

He said, ".... *looking and feeling pretty stupid* ....."

I said, "not only that, you noob. I'm going to be taking a copy home on the 5th of February because I CAN...because I'm not a douche...because I knew that I'd need this kind of quirk in the future so I made sure to build a strong bond between myself and my boss. They like me. I was the best worker they had, the most knowledgeable. It earned the trust with the company, and insight on their data, and early copies of whatever I want. So pretty much, I outted you and I'll make sure no one buys their copy of Brawl from you, you filthy rat. Have fun working for a company that rips off people. Have fun with your dead-end job, Mr. 29-year-old-balding-dude-who-likes-to-****-with-people's-emotions."

He just said, "whatever dude, whatever dude....whatever dude..." throughout the whole time I told him off.

I remained calm with a stern calm voice just telling this guy off the entire time. I think that irritated him the most, the fact that I wasn't the stereotypical obnoxious biggot customer demanding stuff.
This is the best post.

They always do that, I cannot stand it either.

What really pisses me off is that my local GameStop has an employee who always is trying to shove getting that damn GameStop card down my throat. I literally have to make up excuses why I do not want one or he will not leave me alone. Just give me my damn game I am paying for and let me leave!

I've never seen them do that. Weird. I have a card so that's probably why they don't harass me lol, but I got it for the gameinformer subscription and it comes with other cool little benefits too. I actually got a free year of xbl out of it with reward points I had saved up.

HMV do this, pay someone to sit there and open all the games, take them out of the boxes, and throw the discs in a big cardboard box. The amount of times I've got a "new" game that is actually scratched to hell. They always replace it, but still, is it even legal to sell an opened game as brand new?

Also, they always say it's to stop people stealing them. Well, why do you have a security guard on the door? And surely the cost of paying someone to open every box, remove the disc, for every single release us is more than the occasional cost of a stolen game? She just shrugged.

I feel like the gutting of cases would be why they might prefer to specify the (barely) used games as Previously Played, to make a clear division between those returned by customers and those that they've just stuffed in a drawer.

Yeah, I like my Gamestop too. Mine's in a small little shopping center with an Acme Market as an anchor. The ones in the big mall are different though, much more pushy. I like my little, out of the way one.

At least this was at the location I went to which I believe was the original Funcoland warehouse location in Minnesota. Good, nostalgic memories from there.
Yep, that's how we operated. Worked at one for three years. Just another example of Gamestop ruining a good thing.

Sometimes i feel like i must live in bizarro world because every time i go to GS i always have a pleasant time, the people are always incredibly competent and surprisingly very knowledgeable about video games. No i am not being sarcastic. I always hear horror stories but to be honest i have a better shopping experience there then i do at Best Buy, at my GS they don't try to overwhelm me pre-orders and don't follow me around asking for help but then again i know half the people working there.

I don't have a GS story but a guy at BB told me that the PS3 won't work on a HDTV without an HDMI cable when i bought my PS3 back in mid 07.

I do think he was the asshole (employee). Calling a game shit and sliding it back to the customer is insulting. Its one thing to give some sort of insight and opinion to a game that you think is bad, but to refuse a transaction is almost embarrassing.

One weekend I went to pre-order Dead Space 2 CE.

Things to consider:
-At the time I was in the store near my home but I was attending college (2.5 hours away from home).
-during the transaction/order his behavior was bearable (he wasn't welcoming and didn't provide any customer service)

*After pre-ordering with a full purchase*
Me: "I won't be able to pick it up the day it comes out since I will be in college. Will that be okay?"

GS: "We hold games for 48hours before putting them back on the floor." *bored tone*

Me: "Will you be able to hold my copy until I come back?"

GS: "We hold games for 48hours before putting them back on the floor." *said it slightly slower than before in a more serious and smartass tone*

Me: "Okay, thank you" *left*

Like, wtf was that for? Did I do something to be treated that way? I left the store regularly and talked to him respectfully but the whole time I felt like he was being a smart ass by repeating himself as if I'm some asian who doesn't understand english (and yes, I am asian, born and raised in the US). I was able to get someone to pick it up for me but jeez.. maybe I'm overreacting?

AND, this was before I knew how their 'pre-order' stuff works. I had to find out from another GS that they don't put the money toward the game, but just keep the info/payment(s) in their system, IIRC. Which I suppose is why they put games back on the floor after the hold.

Not only that, the "employee" was giving bad customer service. I mean, your on the job (working). Act like a fucking professional. At least have some manners.

There was a GS in the mall by my house that had terrible employees. The manager was a pretty young women (somewhere in the 20's, I'd assume mid-20's) and she was friends with the employee's as well. Their friends (non-gs emplyee) come in and they all start talking about this party they were at. They got pretty loud and there was cussing. Even though they did nothing to (directly) insult customers, their behavior as employee's were awful. There were kids in the store shopping and kids with parents in the store!! FFS have some manners!

Go to Gamestop and buys Odin Sphere. Rep tries to upsell me some pre-order of P3. I decline. Right before I walk out, he tells me all PS2 games brake down shortly after purchase. Guess what. Back up my iso and plays on pcsx2 baby. Oh yea.
There was two reps there. The one who said that was the manager.

Last purchase I made from them was when Valkyria Chronicles was 50%. I regret buying it as it was opened. Disc had no scratches, but still, its not new. It's cheaper now at other retailers.

Don't shop at gamestop no matter what exclusive DLC, LE, CE, whatever.

Uh...I don't really see a problem. If it was going to be more than 2 days that you couldn't pick it up why preorder there, if you could pick it up within that two day period why ask again? I doubt it was because you're Asian and it's laughable that you brought it up, more like you asked the same question twice and he gave you the same answer twice.

No offense, but why did this annoy you? I can see his point. That's their policy that they will hold it for 48 hours and even says it on the receipt when you pre-order. He answered your question so it was up to you to determine whether or not you can make it in those 48 hours. Honestly, I would have been annoyed if the answer I provided answered your question already.

An employee trying to get some customer to pre-order Jade Empire described it as a sequel to KOTOR, which was a hack and slash in which you had star wars helper characters. The customer actually ended up pre-ordering, which I though was funny because their conversation started with the guy complaining that his xbox was broken.

Yeah. And with all the anti-GameStop here, you'd think no one would shop there ever. Guess they just can't stop themselves even though they claim disgust towards GameStop's "practices". "Death to GameStop! Oh wait...let me go buy a game in there first...and get a kwazy story from an uninformed employee!"

You don't get angry at grocery store cashiers went they don't know shit about the pH levels of soy sauce?!
Grocery store employees will actually check to see if products are available and provide actual customer service if you're looking for an item or its price. It's also way easier to price match or return products. If only Gamestop were like supermarkets!

He threw it across the counter, after ridiculing another customer for pre-ordering a game. Of course he deserved to be fired.

Well, plugging a PS3 into an HD TV with component cables is lame. :P

I have only once bought a game from gamestop, but it was rather weird situation.

So, as no store had Dark Souls when the game got out I decided to go to my local gamestop.

I go to the cashier and tell I'd like to buy copy of the game. Fair enough in seconds he gave me the game and I was ready to pay. As I take my credit card out of my purche the clerk says wait.

Clerk: You really need insurance, mate!
Me: insurance? Insurance of what?
Clerk: For the game, of course.
Me: No thanks, I'm cool.
Clerk: But you can like smash the disc and we'll give you new one right away!
Me: Why I'd do that?
Clerk: You never know!

Anyways, other clerk came also to talk about the insurance and how games "Wear out" in months.

I got my game, without the insurance, may I add. But it was weird. Having a insurance on a game? I thought it was pretty silly.

"So I went and bought Call of Duty there before it was out, circled the date on the receipt, and mailed it to Activision to get them in trouble!"

I flat out told her that wasn't cool, and was exactly the kind of thing why she has never seen me buy anything in there, and never will.
This is one of the risks of breaking the street date. The mom n' pop shop I worked at broke the Playstation launch date in 1995 and an EB Games reported them to Sony.

The Sony rep said that they would never sell hardware to the store again if they didn't wait. The owner didn't care and kept selling on selling systems and the games that were available 1-2 weeks before the official launch. We never got a single game or system from them after that, right up until the store shut down in 2005.

I haven't had too many bad experiences, but I can remember one specific one that annoyed me.

I had pre-ordered Halo: Reach, and paid in full before the game came out. I went to the store on launch day to get it.

I get up to the counter, give the guy my preorder slip, and he looks it up. He had to call a manager over, because nothing came up on the screen. The manager says "Nothing is coming up, because you already picked up the game."

"No I didn't."

"Are you sure that no one came and got it for you?"

"I am absolutely sure that wouldn't have happened." (I also had the receipt here, so how would that be possible?)

Back and forth a little bit. They took me back to the office, and showed me the security footage of about the time my copy was picked up. I said that I didn't recognize the guy at all, and can I have my game that I paid for now. A little hemming and hawing, but they gave it to me. I am still not sure how a mix-up like that could have happened, but I guess it was a busy launch day, so whatever.

Nothing very exciting about my story but in October 2009 I go into a gamestop to purchase fallout 3 GOTY.

The employee asks me if I would like to pre-order Modern Warfare 2. I decline. He then tells me there is such a demand for this game that if I don't pre-order the game in the next couple of weeks it will be impossible to get a copy of the game anywhere until February. I think I told him I will take my chances and thanked him.

I didn't read all the posts yet so this may not be that bad overall but I was a little amazed that he said this to me. Perhaps he has never heard of the internet or maybe he thought it was 1994 where gamestop was just about the only place to get new games.

That actually sounds like a subtle joke aimed towards Dark Souls difficulty :P

Video game "insurance" is such a fucking scam. Unless you're a drooling idiot or you have small or stupid kids around, you're not going to break enough games to make insurance worth it.

Think of the number of times you could have bought a protection plan with your games and how much you would have spent if you had done it, and compare it to the amount of money it would cost to replace every game you've ever owned that got scratched or broken.

Anth0ny had the best fabricated post I've read on this page through a quote.
Anth0ny, if you really went out of your way to punish a 30 year-old man working at a game shop... He's already dead-end... Balding...

Anyways, I went in looking for a copy of shadow the hedgehog, I had the clerk tell me they didn't sell gamecube games, and the cute trainee told me they had one copy left.

This was a few months ago, seniority means shit.

I'm primarily a Wii gamer. :-X

The last time I went into a gamestop because we were snowed in during a cross country trip. I find a mint, but obviously opened, copy of Silent Hill 2 for PS2 for $4.99

GS: Wow, why are you getting this?
Me: I haven't played this series, getting into horror games
GS: No, I mean why are you buying this when the HD collection is coming out soon? (This was in 2011)
Me: I probably can't play it...
GS: Well you have an Xbox 360 right?
Me: No (getting annoyed)
GS: It's also on PS3, here I can do the preorder for you
Me: NO. I have a Wii and I don't live in New Mexico anyways
GS: Wow, well I guess you can deal with the bad graphics then...
