Yeah, and even on my GBA SP it looks washed out (dunno whether I was spoiled or the lights are dimming though, I'm suspecting the former). But the DS phat hits the sweet spot for FFV and FFVI, easily. DSi might've been pretty good too had it kept GBA support.

I had one. The first Castlevania game released on the DS was nigh unplayable on it. Too damned dark even on the highest brightness. Stopped playing it, and then popped it into my DS Lite when that thing released and it was night and day different.

Dammit Nintendo. Why must I wait until Sunday to get a hold of my Red 3DSXL? I demand answers! Why can't Nintendo of Canada just split away from NoA and do their own thing?

I didn't buy hardware revisions until the DS Lite. I'd played GBA games on the original hardware up until the DS was released. Unfortunately, my DS's shoulder buttons died around the time the DS Lite was released, so the new hardware became my replacement. It was such a huge leap in quality that I retroactively regretted never buying an SP.

My wallet hates me as much as yours does. I have a 3DS, Vita, and now I pre-ordered the XL. Buying a Wii U too.

At gamestop it says 30 dollars for a DSlite. There is a deal where you get an extra 20% towards a 3ds and a 3dsXL. I have an old Dslite and will be doing it. 36 bucks is way more than I would get on ebay

An off topic question, but would I be able to connect my DS lite to a McDonald's hotspot? I just got Picross DS and I want to download the Super/Mario Picross DLC levels, but I have WPA, not WEP. :/

Depends on if they use encryption or not. WEP is so awful that I doubt you'll find many places that still use it. In order to grab Picross and Picross 3D free DLC I had to configure a 2nd network on my router that uses WEP. You should also know that the Super/Mario Picross levels wont fit on the cart at the same time. So you'll need to do one package, beat and erase them, and then grab the other. There's a ton of levels beyond those available as well.

It's also worth taking a stroll around your neighborhood with your DS Lite/3DS and scan for networks. Chances are pretty good you'll find one with no encryption.

Make sure your router supports multiple networks before you go mucking about with it.

I never purposely packed it in any specific box or even intended to keep the damn thing.. It just ALWAYS shows up some how. I should just sit it next to my monitor and call it a day.

Attention to FRGaf, I don't know if it was already posted but NSMB2 is available in some stores in France (Micromania, Fnac and Game too according to website).
I got mine saturday, the game is pretty sweet and on the XL it's gorgeous so go for it if you find it.

Edit : Apparently already posted, so a brief review :

- Useless 3D
- A bit harder than SM3DL
- Not really "New"
- Too short
- The real tanuki finally back!
- Scumbag DLC

Still a great platformer!

So Robin picked up a 3DS LL (XL) while we're here in Japan. I got to play with it a bit myself. I can pretty much confirm the "this is everything I wish the OG 3DS was" consensus; I'll be picking up a XL myself in anticipation of RF4 and FE13 when we get home. The feel is fantastic, the games look great on the big screen. The 3D effect is still silly but welp.

When the XL was first announced, I was pretty dissapointed. I was really looking forward to a 3DS Lite or something and convinced myself I wouldn't need a bigger 3DS. Mainly because I travel by train and bus so much, the idea of carrying such a "big" device wouldn't be practical for me.

So on launch day I walked into a store and when I saw a demo unit, I realized I needed one. Best. Purchase. Ever.

Man, 3DS games really come to life on this thing. And I feel it isn't quite as big as I thought it would have been. Beautiful colour, nice design, no scratches, and playing Mario, Zelda or Resident Evil on this thing is just perfect. It feels just so much more immersive playing games on the XL.

So for anyone still doubting: if you play 3DS games frequently, get one!

Hmm? I never had this problem, but maybe because I was used to playing CotM on the unlit GBA. I don't remember the first DS having brightness options other than on/off.
Playing gba Castlevanias with the DS phat was a revelation however. (I never bought an SP)

Yes. Everything transfers except your credit card info for security reasons. Which is deleted from both of your devices

You can just unclip the top one with your fingernails and the bottom one with a screwdriver.

You actually have to take the bottom one out if you want to change the battery.

Anybody know of a good charger that handles both U.S. and European voltages? I want to be able to charge my U.S. 3DS when we visit the wife's parents in Poland. Or should I just buy an official European 3DS charger the next time I'm there?

Just got home with mine.

If any existing 3DS owners are on the fence at all about upgrading, I really can't stress enough how much of an improvement the XL is in every single way. It's a night and day difference. The screens are huge, and the build quality is so much better it's insane. It just feels so good in your hands! The D-Pad is actually usable!

To me, this is just as big an upgrade as the DSPhat to DSLite, highly recommended it!

(The data transfer is great too, a horde of Pikmin run across your screen carrying bits of data :3 )

Hmm... Considering trading in my old black 3DS for an XL. I'll still have my lovely Princess Peach 3DS for portability. GAME are doing a offer where trade in original 3DS -> get 3DS XL + charger for £80. However, they also have a 3DS XL + Kid Icarus/Mario Kart/Kingdom Hearts/Heroes of Ruin for £175... So I should be able to trade in the 3DS for £80 store credit, then get that bundle for £95 (effectively getting Kingdom Hearts for £15). Does anyone know if they're doing the bundle in store as well as via the website?

I literally got back from my local GAME two hours ago, doing exactly that (I went for Kid Icarus), so I can confirm they're doing the bundle in-store.

Just keep in mind that if you're wanting to data transfer from your 3DS, you'll have to pay the full £175 up front, take the XL home to do the transfer, then bring your 3DS in the next day to get your cash back.

Bought a 3DS XL yesterday. Silver & Black. I dont know if the deal had changed from what i picked up on the shelf, or something had updated, but the price i got it for was amazing.

I owned an OG DS and then a DSLite, but had pretty much never played a 3DS, at all, aside from the odd 5 minute try on the usual sticky in-store units with wonky buttons.

Firstly, the build quality is ace. It feels much more solid than my DSLite did. I think its probably the type of plastic, but it feels really good.
The buttons and circle pad are also really solid, I am just slightly concerned with the d-pad location. I have not had to use it yet, but I worry that if I get a game that uses it heavily, it's going to be very uncomfortable to use where it is. I'll worry about that when the time comes!

Secondly, that top screen is fantastic. The DSL screen is miniscule in comparison. Everything looks great, and after a bit of getting used to it, the 3D effect is very cool.

Games wise, i picked up Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land. Have spent a small amount of time with both, and am happy with my choices.
Mario Kart is, well, Mario Kart. Ive always been a fan, so its as fun as ever. The 3D effect looking down the tracks as you drive is very good.
Mario 3D Land is amazing. The levels are superbly designed, the graphics and colours are incredible, and the use of 3D is better than i thought any game would be so far. I obviously have to give it more time, but i feel it could be up there with SMG2.

Just ordered Tetris 3DS today for some puzzle fun. I lost an absurd amount of my life to Tetris DS, so it should be good!

Good to hear.

The black 3DS has nothing on it - I transferred everything over to my special edition one, and haven't really used it for anything since. The dilemma is whether to transfer over to the XL - I think I'll just leave it where it is for StreetPass purposes (not going to carry an XL around all the time).
