It only released here in Portugal now. I thought it was fantastic, the whole BB thing in a horror movie and not knowing what the hell was happening was really great. Oh and all the Lovecraftian references were fantastic.. :P

Not that I question that, but you also have to take into account that the movie has different release dates in different countries: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1259521/releaseinfo Looking at the list from IMDB, the movie hasn't even been released yet in few countries.

heeeelllll no.

this movie wasn't worth price of admission imo. its a decent movie, but doesn't belong in either comedy or horror genre, cuz its nowhere near best of either.

even though its supposed to be a commentary on horror tropes, it has problems within its own commentary, like when the gig is up and the girl discovers the underground lab, she's screaming and banging the glass in the elevator. i mean how stupid can you be, do you want to break the glass and have the monster kill you? or how about the unguarded room with the big red 'do not push' button?

like i said, decent movie but only worth a rental.

Absolutely loved it.

Had I went in 100% blind, without seeing a trailer, without hearing any buzz etc, etc - I think I would have flipped my shit. Unfortunately 'twist' movies can be slightly spoiled simply by being made aware there's a twist, stopping you from enjoying the film until you eventually get to that part.

But anyway - by far, my favourite part of the film was watching the lab guys making bets on what their fate would be and then thinking "Damn, all those great ideas and all we got to see was generic zombies?" - then the genius elevator scene followed by all hell breaking loose and the nightmares getting a bunch of screen-time? They delivered.

The movie only starts here on theaters in almost 3 months !!!!!
I will see in theaters, but the nonsense delay in movies just makes me want to kill someone ><

But think about the good parts !
Now we can have high quality gifs and a high quality screen of the elevator scene ! =D

Kevin is a homicidal Wal-Mart employee. I'm not sure he is ever on screen, though.

edit: maybe it's Best Buy, I can't remember. It's in the visual companion.

Tell me about it. I wanted to see Scott Pilgrim in theater, I really wanted to. The movie's release was first delayed to November (IIRC, by that time the movie was already out on DVD and Blu-ray in USA), but then it was eventually canceled and only released on DVD/Blu-ray in February >_<
I'll never understand why movie distributors do this (and then complain about people pirating movies).

Yeah they cut Kevin's scene, it was Best Buy. He was essentially the "mild mannered cruel an unusual serial killer" type.

I love foreign movies just as much as I like films from Hollywood, and I don't even get the chance to see these movies in theaters 99% of the time, nor do I even get the chance to rent them in a video shop. I pretty much have to straight up purchase them (marked up imports to boot), or pay for an online service like Netflix if I want to see the film, and still don't pirate them...

I absolutely loved this when I saw it in the theater. I went in knowing pretty much nothing and that made it a much better experience. One of the best dark comedies in quite a while. When I started watching it I was wondering if I was in the right movie, and then the title just appeared abruptly. Loved it from beginning to end.

I loled hard when he finally got to see his merman

it isn't a horror movie or a comedy movie because it's not the best horror movie or best comedy movie ever? what the?

well for one that glass clearly wasn't going to break and that one small example of the film using a cliche doesn't magically undermine the entire rest of its commentary.

Scott Pilgrim's release was one of the most frustrating experiences. It was supposedly going to get released in August and then was pushed back, and pushed back, every single weekend. My hopes and expectations were crushed every week for a month or two. I think it got a limited release in October. I finally had the chance to see it in January and the reel was covered in dust and scratches...

Use common friggin' sense, dude. Think about what is contained in those cubes. Do you really, REALLY think that she could break it. Honestly. Come on.

Also, it wasn't unguarded. You just failed to connect what happened with the guard.

And since when does a movie have to be the best of its genre to be classified in said genre? There are a lot, a LOT of horrible, awful, terrible, bad comedies, horror movies, chick flicks, action movies, etc. Just because they don't hold up to some Gol Standard you have doesn't mean they shouldn't be labeled as what they are. Cabin in the Woods is a dark/horror comedy.

Spoilering just in case:

From my understanding, the order in which the 'archetypes' died was important; at the very least the Whore had to die first, and the Virgin was to be left last (alive or dead, but she had to suffer). What about everyone inbetween, did they also have to die in a particular order? The reason I'm asking is because I'm confounded by the Fool's apparent death earlier in the movie.

No. The reason the Fool threw things off is because they jumped the gun and didn't wait for a confirmation of the kill. They assumed he died, and made the blood offering in his name, but he wasn't dead, just off the grid. Thinking he was dead, they turned their attention to the kids that were left, which is how he was able to sneak around undetected - why would they be looking out for the Fool when he's already dead?

Lol, you could at least mention problems the movie has and not simple things that were somehow hard to understand...

The title of this thread really should be changed, ever since theater release, most people expected a pure horror movie. It definitely has the influence, but the title should of been something that didn't trick people into what kind of movie this is yet still be vague.

I think the movie is more entertaining if you don't expect the genre shift?

It's still very dark, I don't get why people get upset when a movie surprises them.

Someone already did it.

You can see most of them in the movie.

Mutants - I saw a Hills Have Eyes type of desert mutant throw someone off a balcony to the giany snake
Reptilius - in one of the camera monitors you see a copy of the Jurrassic Park shot of a giant dinosaur foot coming down behind an office worker. Looked like a velociraptor.
Dismemberment Goblins - might be Demons, but in the lift release 2 flying gargoyle type creatures rip a security guard in half.
The Doctors - see them operating on one of the camera monitors
Jack O'Lantern - breaths fire in a close-up on one of the camera monitors
Twins - seen in the big zoom-out of the box storage area.

They are not using their actual blood.

It's implied that Upper Management knows when they die, though. Which is why you had an earthquake when they pulled the blood valve for The Fool early.

Not even remotely. Even the "jump" scares don't hit the mark. It's clever, it's funny, it's not perfect, but it's not scary in any way. The movie setup, right from the first couple of scenes, means it can't really be scary after that.

Funny to see people being disappointed it wasn't scary or "horror" while others patronizingly tell them it wasn't supposed to be.

Look at the poster.

Look at the title.

Look at the ads.

It was 100% marketed as a horror movie.

Anyway, the movie was mildly entertaining, that's the best I can say about it. Awful characters and an entire movie of wink-wink nudge-nudge isn't something I'm going to find clever or memorable. As usual Joss is too busy trying to be clever to patch up his logic gaps and plotholes.

Of course the worst crime the movie committed was having shots of the facility/soldiers in the ads, thus giving away most or all of the twist to anyone who has any experience with movies.

The snake CGI was really, really bad. I guess given the budget it's acceptable, but that somehow stood out as REALLY bad.

Also, I really wished it had been Cthulhu or similar in the end instead of a giant humanoid.-

I thought it was okay, in fact I was thinking "too bad CG wasn't this good when they did the finale of Buffy season 3."

The blood CG was what really struck me as terrible, looked like youtube tutorials.
