A trend that we will see in next gen- Cyberpunk/Futuristic Games
#1
One thing I noticed this past E3 and the games that are getting announced seem to have a similiar theme or tone to them. I am just guessing we will see more cyberpunk games this gen than before, which I wouldnt mind at all. Some not entirely cyberpunk but games that will take part in the not too distant future.
You already see it with on this generations last legs with: Remember me ![]() Deus Ex ![]() Somewhat with David Cages Beyond Two Souls Steampunk like games such as Dishonored ![]() And Bioshock Infinite ![]() For next gen we have already seen one in Watch Dogs The Witchers developer new game is all cyberpunk. ![]() I wouldnt be surprised if MW4 is all futuristic and shit, maybe not exactly cyberpunk but seeing where BlackOps 2 is going I wouldnt be surprised if they go all out future warfare. Also wouldnt be surprised if Fallout 4 is kind of like Dishonored and a bit steampunk like, I cant imagine them going to back to post appolopctic world since its seems stale right now. Well for me anyways. Would like to see maybe a Blade Runner game made by David Cage, could be interesting, would be interesting to see what other devs are working on like Naughty Dog. Also what was that game that a gaf member somewhat leaked before E3 with that gif but it was never later announced, someone must know what I am talking about. Anyways it maybe nothing but from what I am seeing it seems like one of next gen's theme is cyberpunk/futuristic/ steampunk sci fi like games. Kind of like how one of this gen's trend was the whole zombie games shit. Hopefully more interesting games come out of this trend.

Totally agreed. I love it. And we can't forget Shadowrun Returns!
Though a lot of those games in the OP don't really fit in my mind. Like Dishonored and Bioshock Infinite. Pretty far from cyberpunk I think. Watch_Dogs and Shadowrun Returns are really the closest things on the horizon. And maybe if I'm lucky, I'll get to see Rockstar's take on cyberpunk. |

I'm dying for a cyberpunk game done in the style of the current Fallout or Elder Scrolls games, with a large, detailed city brimming with atmosphere, mods and tech instead of armor and magic, etc.
I want to create a technomancer and walk through dark, rainy streets awash with neon, hacking into atms and climbing skyscrapers with my physical enhancements, hijacking flying cars and getting into all sorts of shenanigans. Deus Ex: HR gave me a little taste of what I want, but I want it in a large, non-linear scale. A city as large as Skyrim would be asking for much, but I'd be totally down with a city the size of GTA IV's Liberty City, but all futuristic and awesome. I love fantasy and swords and sorcery, but I've had my fill of that style of game this gen. If cyberpunk is where the industry's next trend is pointing, I will be there with no hesitation. Beats another standard military shooter any day. |

True, but like Bioshock Infinite for example takes place in 1912. Pretty much the opposite of futuristic.
Edit: Oops. missed Cake's post above. Either way, I totally agree. These sorts of settings/aesthetics are great. Much better than gritty, present day stuff that we've seen lately. |

Yes, agreed and indeed.
I hope the Shadowrun franchise takes off and someone makes it into a singleplayer action rpg of epic proportions. Speaking of Epic... still waiting for that Samaritan announcement. Do fucking want. |
