I always thought so too until I saw the quote. Now I hear won't when I listen.

Some of his original ideas for the show definitely bordered more on the absurd, like Marge having bunny ears hidden under her hair or Homer's secret identity being Krusty the Clown. |

I just realized a brick joke in the Itchy and Scratchy Land.
Halfway in the episode when an announcement was made that Marge's son was taken in for misconduct, they followed with "Marge's older, balder, fatter son". Remember that, right? It is a fine, typical joke on confusing Homer as an adult child. But then I just realized that earlier in the episode upon entry, Homer paid for "1 adult, 4 children", somehow complementing that intercom joke. |

It's from this episode.

Going back a few pages whilst i don't think the movie is a return to form, its a lot closer to the classics than the terrible seasons. Homer is more grounded and every character seems more like who they used to be.
Home was always this guy who was a bit dumb but well meaning but in series 14-17 especially he became mentally ill. If he had the choice of watching tv at home or jumping into the turbines of a plane whilst shouting and wearing a skirt he'd choose the latter for no reason. The movie didn't have any of that, he became this guy that did dumb things he thought was right or okay rather than trying to be like Peter Griffin. In fact series 20 onwards has got a lot better, its no where near the classic episodes but its a LOT better |

Bought season 7 and 8 a couple of weeks ago and I'm surprised how many episodes of the series I've actually missed from those season. Thinking of buying earlier seasons as well, but how about season 9 & 10? I've heard it's the 10th season when everything started to go really bad. I haven't been able to watch the newer episodes due to awfulness.

Never seen it. So crazy to think that there are more Simpsons episodes that I haven't seen than those I have. When I was still watching new ones back on Thursdays, it was like it'd be on all my life. And then it just kept going.

S10 is when things really take a turn for the worst. "Homer Simpson in: Kidney Trouble" is the first time you truly go "When did Homer turn into such a jerkass?" |

Season 11 is probably the last one where I have seen every single episode of it, and the only good episode I can think of is the Tomacco Farm episode. |

Oh, there it is. Well, at least MINE'S still in the box! But I envy your collection anyway. All I have is whatever clearanced stuff I could find back in 2002 and 2003. Which is a wind-up walking Homer (Out of box), Pez dispenser, Duff beer keychain and a playset for Moes and KBBL I got from EB Games. (Out of the box) He says "Won't!" as he's repeating what he said before when Rex repeats what he said before. It's "Won't!". |

Besides, almost none of it has retained any value over the years anyway. Especially considering I'm Canadian and bought most of it at an almost 60% exchange rate:(

You are "technically" correct. I personally view the classic era cutoff as when Mike Scully took over as showrunner for the 5F## production run in Season 9 ending the showrunning regimes of Bill Oakley & Josh Weinstein, Al Jean & Mike Reiss as a tandem (obviously Jean has stuck around and has run the show into an abomination in recent years without Reiss) and David Mirkin. It's fair to say that Mike Scully episodes were the end of the classics and the show has spiraled into irrelevance since then. The catch with Season 9 is that while Scully took over a lot of episodes produced by the previous showrunner teams snuck into the Season 9 rotation which is why we still got to enjoy The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson, Lisa's Sax, The Joy of Sect and Lisa the Simpson which I all consider classic era worthy. These were all produced prior to the Mike Scully episodes that ran during Season 9 so they still qualify for me.

Not a picture, but here's a classic that's been quoted countless times.
