If worst comes to worst I've got a couch you can sleep on. I live in, more or less, central Stockholm. I only have one pair of keys though, so you'd have to stay indoors all day or stay outside while I'm at work. I also can't vouch for how (un)comfortable the couch is - also, one of my cats peed in one end of it while I had them here for week a couple of years back, only smells a teeny tiny bit if you put your nose basically against it though. Gonna get a new one soon.
But if you're out of options, send me a PM. |

Gonna chuck the thing in the coming months, along with most of the furniture, as not much of it is mine and I'm not crazy about any of it. I'm renting the place second hand but will likely get the contract in the not so distant future.

I'm not a doctor, just sympathetic as I suffered this summer with terrible sore throats, like the worst I can remember. Felt like I was swallowing razor blades. Good luck man. |

Scandic has rooms, but they are expensive.
~1400-1900 SEK per night. http://www.scandichotels.com/en/ |

I'm a regular at this hotel in Birmingham that's 3 stars, 1 minute away from the bullring, and it costs only 25-30 quid a night. |

It's strange that I only noticed this thread now, I would have joined in in the Dublin drunkenness if I'd known at the time. Still good to read your impressions and exploits, although I did get a bit worried when I read that you were planning on going to the Swedish House Mafia gig. Given the stories I heard about the gig since, it's sort of like watching a horror movie where the character's about to walk into a room that you know the murderer's in. Thankfully past-EviLore made the right decision and got the hell out of there.
It also turns out you would have been better off coming to Ireland at the other end of your trip. The weather here was pretty awful (even by our standards) during June and July, but it's turning into a pretty nice August. |

There are hotels to be found that'll only cost you an arm OR a leg :p. The location will be suboptimal though. (Even if it's near a subway station. Allso I've got no idea if the hotell is good or not)

Expensive is the word of the hour.
Went to the supermarket, got some more ibuprofen (30 tabs), acetaminophen (30 tabs), and that Strepsils stuff, plus a 500ml bottle of water and a small Kinder chocolate. $25. Tried going to one of the Italian places that was recommended, but it no longer exists, and most restaurant menus were way overloaded on things that don't appeal to me, so I walked into a Taco Bar. One bare basic taco, one ground beef nachos, one sparkling water. $17. Convenience store for overnight supplies. Three half-liter bottles of water, two protein bars, one small bag of trail mix. $17 Not even going to bars since I'm sick, but the prices I see for piss beers are $8 and mixed drinks $14-15. heathledgerburningmoney.jpg |

Btw, don't buy bottled water unless it's fizzy or flavoured, as tap water in Sweden is of excellent quality. |

If you're healthy and still here on Saturday, there is a big outdoor event on Långholmen called Blommor & Bin (Birds and the Bees). Going with some (hot) friends.
edit: yeah, tap water here is more than fine. No need to buy bottled. Also, Taco Bar?? Wtf! That place is an affront to mexican food!

Hopefully I'll be healthy and proper by then. I've heard such good things about Sweden that I don't want to just bail out and come back later, especially since Sweden-GAF has just mobilized, so I will keep working on finding good accommodations, and keep resting up as much as possible.

Taco Bar wasn't terrible, but yes, hilarious compared to either good Tex-Mex or authentic Mexican food. But it was a casual dining place and I came across it and I can barely walk :lol |

As good a reason as any I suppose. :D I understand, I tend to walk around for far too long when looking for food in unknown cities, and then end up in a crappy place anyway (did in Rome). It is pretty close to your hotel at least, and next to my ex-school (SSE), and I know the area is kinda crappy as far as food goes. At least it wasn't Jensens boefhus, although their 49SEK steak lunch is the best deal in town pretty much. |

There are really cheap hostels in Uppsala and Södertälje that should have beds available. If Stockholm doesn't work out.
Or perhaps in the outskirts of Stockholm, places like Skärholmen etc (:P)! http://www.booking.com/hotel/se/may-...d=1&lang=en-us

Oh, a word of advice. If you plan to take a taxi ride somewhere, be wary of the price. It's legal for taxis to charge more or less whatever they want as long as it's stated on a sticker on one of the windows, thus there are some taxi companies that make a living off of ripping off tourists.
I don't really ever take cabs myself so I'm not sure what is standard fare with proper taxi companies, but I'm sure you can find that information on the internet somewhere. |
