The names on my list have not let me down yet. If they did they would not be on that list. In some cases the fun indeed goes back decades. |

Naughty Dog - Their products show they are extremely dedicated to their craft and always excel at trying to be the best. So I know even if the game I buy isn't the best I've ever played, I can always appreciate the attention to detail and work they put into the game.
Volition - They just make FUN games. I even enjoyed Armageddon. If they could get past their technical hurdles in their games, I think they would get more recognition as a developer. Playing Saint's Row reminds me of what Rockstar seems to have forgotten as the most important aspect of any game, and that is gameplay. Valve - Steam. You have to appreciate steam. If you don't you're just jaded. Even if there are some kind of underlying issues to sob about, the platform as a whole is absolutely great for gamers and developers. They kind of have a way about making games in a way that the majority of players will love it - something most devs struggle with. I just wish they would give certain franchises the love they've shown TF2. I'm sure they are, and I'm sure its on a new engine. But I'm getting tired of waiting. Yet in 2039 when HL3 comes out, I'll still buy it. Blizzard - Say what you will about some design decisions in both SC2 and Diablo 3 - Blizzard still makes games on a level all their own. The core gameplay of all of their games is extremely well thought-out and polishes, and they have absolutely phenomenal artists and animators there. |

Most of the single player campaign pissed me off. I felt like the encounters were designed around trial-and-error versus the more seamless combat scenarios in Uncharted 2. The story also felt cobbled together to tie set pieces together. That entire boat section was completely unnecessary plot-wise.
That being said I'm two trophies away from a Platinum. |

Paradox
Koei Sid Meier Artdink Used to do Enix, back when they were Enix, unfortunately, Square kind of ruined them. Still grab just about anything Dragon Quest though. Used to: Project Aces, Ridge Racer games; Reasoning: Newest mainline game in both series are atrocious games mainly because of their pandering to the west.

While I don't automatically purchase from, I barely need to see anything to buy games from:
Rockstar Naughty Dog Bungie Valve And when it comes to Mario, Zelda and other main series, Nintendo. Those companies have a good enough record of delivering great titles that I can now trust them and pretty much just check a couple screenshots and watch one or two videos and I know I'm buying it based on how their other games played. |
