One of my friends from res and I were sitting in the lower portion of our cafeteria more than a decade ago (Caps I think, stays open later and serves nachos and fries and burgers and a few odd grocery items) when one of us noticed the snack cakes over on a nearby rack.

Turned out that neither one of us had ever had a Twinkie. So I go and blow however many cafeteria points on a double pack of them, tear it open, hand one to him and take the other for myself.

Jesus christ it was awful. I'm not sure what I expected, but I got a half gooey half dry sweet mass that only vaguely tasted edible. At least we had drinks to wash them down with.

Fuck Twinkies. I used to love them as a kid, but I ate one recently and almost choked from the amount of sweetness. And to add to that, it had some weird airy taste in the yellow parts (as it always does).

I wonder if they changed the recipe in the past couple decades? I remember loving them as a kid but when I tried one recently it wasn't nearly as good and didn't taste like I remembered. Might just be my changing taste preferences though. I definitely don't remember the cake being so airy.
