why did it take balls for him to come clean AFTER he got exposed for being a pathological liar? I would have given him props for coming clean before he was already outed, once that happened he had to no choice. I know a person like him who lies about everything, but not as severe. Once you find out one white lie you realize that they weaved together a complicated fabric of lies all in order to keep up 1 lie, it's a slippery slope. edit: when it comes to guys and their stories with girls, I have found it that most of it is filled with lies and exaggerations, like the saying "however many girls a guy says he slept with, divide it by 3 to get a more accurate number".

Agreed. I mean what were people expecting him to do? Have a complete melt down and deny the whole thing? He does have a ton of guts for lying in a place where people are anonymous for the most part as well as show up to the meet ups. But that doesn't mean we should ostracize him for it and tell him to get lost in light of this incident. I mean we all make mistakes and we all have our flaws otherwise we wouldn't be human. If he still wants to come, then I have no objections to it. Heck, RawNuts doesn't think this should stop him from showing up over this little incident. I don't know if this has changed your opinion of him.

Again, everyone agrees that what he did was completely disrespectful. I don't know if he's deceived us at the meet ups. Everyone assumes that what people post on the internet about themselves is the truth (also what they say in person). But again, that doesn't change my opinion of him despite the fact that yes, he has lost some of his credibility among our group and that people will take what he says with a grain of salt.

Usually people who get called out on a lie like this will either:
-disappear from the thread (alphanoid)
-confabulate further (jbaird)
-go off on a massive rage-fueled meltdown that involves threats of physical violence, mocking the person who called them out, insulting the whole forum for being so easy to fool, finally culminating in a vaguely self-congratulatory paragraph about how they'll be back with a new name and a new lie and you'll never see it coming bwahaha (angelsoldier, to some extent kitsune)

Actually owning it without raging is pretty rare, the only other example I remember is serafitia.

I've only been around GAF for four years as a member but I've seen a couple of these old meltdown threads; particularly the ones where people have multiple accounts and lie about it on both accounts until they're cornered and explode. Also the Mod abuse stories. It's funny how many people say they'll have their revenge. Then they pop on the Facebook GAF group to vent their frustration for being banned, try to start some kind of discussion, or wish they could come back like some sort of quasi-purgatory.

I was afraid that this was going to be another case of where someone has a meltdown and the people in question got banned once the dust settled. So I was pretty surprised myself when I saw that it was handled pretty well by both sides which deserves a huge amount of commendation.

Don't get too excited; it wasn't even in the same ballpark as the others. More of a Joe the Plumber-style politically motivated lie. He used to post in political threads about his father/uncle/brother (depending on the thread) who took a $100k+ pay cut to stay in a lower tax bracket, thus netting more take-home pay because tax brackets are evil, man.

When he got called out on the obvious lie (tax brackets don't work like that), he vanished. To this day, you can get him to instantly do a disappearing act from a political thread by asking if he's figured out tax brackets yet.

It was the first example that came to mind, though it's a little unfair since it's a much lower-level lie than the others.

He could have ignored it and suffered shame as well as being labeled a pussy, owned up to it and suffered a lesser amount of shame, or he could have lied about it and claim that those remarks were actually true, in which case he would be kicked out of his apartment which would have really put him in a tough position.
Given the choices, he went the most logical route which I fully expected.

He was fully aware of what he did and seemed truly apologetic; what he did really fucked me up for a while and even made me doubt the woman I love, but I can't continue to hold it against him anymore. I would hate to think that he'll stop hanging out with you guys at meetups because of this; he deserves to have his balls busted about it, but in a more friendly manner.

I think it's safe to say that he's still going to show up because this isn't nothing that's ruined his life or overall perception of him.
