Eh, don't forget about the expectations game. If people expect Obama to win debates, that counts against him. Same for Ryan, for that matter. It'll get complicated.

Why I think parties suck, to go into more detail, is because at some point it becomes some game. It's like rooting for a team even if you don't like all the players. That's not what politics should be about, or at least I don't think that's what they should be about.

I'd rather try and learn what a president stands for then vote for them because of the color of their team.

yeah mittens is fucked. he'll probably try to get in some rehearsed zinger lines in there (most likely with awkward timing) but obama is quick enough on his feet to turn those around on mittens.

We're talking about the same guy, right? The fiscal hawk who had no clue if the budget they were touting would be balanced? The same Ryan who's plan they've been running away from as fast as their legs can carry them?

They have no plan. They have vague notions. Because when you're proposing taking out a massive chunk of government spending you can't have your cake and eat it too. As soon as people know who Romney intends to hang out to try to pay for top end and corporate tax cuts the Democrats are going to absolutely hammer them. More so than they are now with the Ryan "plan".

A moronic monkey could wipe the floor with this guy in a debate.

Ryan will walk away the victor in the debates versus Biden. The content of the debate, even if its outright lies, is largely irrelevant. Ryan is younger, he'll be more energetic and he is simply a better speaker than Biden. The Obama administration has kept Biden out of the limelight for good reason.

Traffic is awful in Charlotte. A lot of Charlotte residents are ultra salty about people saying that there is nothing to do in Charlotte. Guess what? There isn't anything to do there.

Hispanic: 16%
Black: 12%
Asian: 5%
Native American: <1%

Female: 51%
Male: 49%

Based on the speaker list above, here's what I see in terms of identity politics:
White: 28.5* (65% - underrepresented)
Black: 7 (16% - represented on par with national representation)
Hispanic / Latino: 4 (9% - underrepresented)
Native American: 1.5* (3% - overrepresented)
Asian: 2** (5% - represented on par with national representation)
Charlie Crist Award for Worst Tan in America: 1 (overrepresented at any number)
Female: 21 (slight underrepresentation)
Male: 24 (slight overrepresentation)

(Also, for interest)
Gay and out: 2

* How are we classifying Elizabeth Warren at this point?
** One of these speakers is part-Tamil, part-Indian, part-Afro-Caribbean; I chose to count her as "Asian". For the purpose of your premise, she's at least non-white.

Of the major speeches--IE the section headers in the speaker list posted here--2 are black, 3 are white, and 1 is Hispanic / Latino.

So your premise is that a convention that underrepresents whites and latinos, represents blacks and asians on par with their national representation, and overrepresents Native Americans is "blindingly white"?
Huh?
I swear that she's just part indian. What's the part tamil for? It's just a region in india.

But yeah, much more diverse than the RNC. But that's expected; I do not see minorities voting for republicans that much.

They keep him out of the limelight because he has a tendency to go off message and speak his mind, he's actually a fantastic debater because of his easy going attitude and he was winning debates when Paul Ryan was watching Transformers. Ryan will be more challenging than Palin but Biden has the experience to call him out on his bullshit, thats why he was chosen as a running mate after all

As I posted in the political thread, the way protestors are being treated in Charlotte is embarrassing and absurd. Rounding people up like cattle and placing them behind bicycles while a hundred cops stare blankly at them? It was bad enough that they forced them to protest in front of the Nascar Hall of Fame.

Crowley debate preview:

Romney: "Unemployment has increased one billion percent under Obama!"

Crowley: "Well....is that figure totally correct? Independent fact che-"

Romney: "Yes Candy, it is true! We're not contrained by partisan media types. You can look up the facts on our web site!"

It's started at 5:00. The first half hour was just business. Current lady is only the third speaker according to the schedule on C-SPAN.
