Unless it's a 1 drop that hoses 3 very popular archetypes with a hybrid mana that allows it to be played in damn near any deck and has an ability that's passive. It also singlehandly destroys Golgari's mechanic.

Golgari's new mechanic appears exclusively on critters.

Not every deck wants a one drop.

Point taken on the first, but not the second. What decks don't want a one drop? Especially now?

This card will also teach people about how spells resolve and when damage kills creatures! Because if you kill it with a Lightning Bolt the Bolt ends up exiled. But if you kill it with a Murder, the Murder goes to the graveyard.

Well, NayaPod isn't going to be in standard when this guy is. And it's not like Snap -> Vapor Snag didn't destroy many NayaPod/Delver matches.

I wouldn't worry re: the pricing. They'll fall relatively quickly.

Shocks? Prices falling? I don't think so. Shocks are played in Eternal and Standard.

Originally, before Modern came out, Shocks were priced at ~US$10 apiece. Then Modern was announced, and prices shot up sky high. I don't really see it going below US$10 each.

They also were at a fixed quantity when a new format was announced. They aren't for the next year or so. A much greater supply leads to a drop in price.

Hell, we're already have factual proof of this, as the sale we're discussing shows. It's already happened.

edit: man...big set...279 cards...only 5 shocks in this set. Wizards are gonna make lotsa money!!

God forbid that decks only get to cast their instants and sorceries once! Kinda makes me sad that this hoses those burning vengeance decks. And this is coming for someone that owns snapcasters.

Woah I find it hard to believe they were selling shocks that low! Where on their site I can't even find RTR singles?

Nowadays, with the gigantic print runs cards get, a reprint is going to massively lower the cost of a card. Look at Grim Lavamancer, Nantuko Shade, Solemn, ect. The print run for RTR is going to be sugnificantly higher than any of the previous Ravnica sets, so the market is going to be flooded. They will be under 10 each by this time next year

I'd say Grim Lavamancer, Nantuko Shade and Solemn, etc were victims of power creep. Grim Lavamancer, Nantuko Shade and Solemn are rarely even used in eternal formats anymore.

Shocks on the other hand, are only trumped by original duals. I haven't seen any signs of land creep yet.

Grim Lavamancer and Solemn both saw plenty of play on returning to Standard, and Grim L. still sees Legacy play.

Nantuko Shade, though, was an awfully timed reprint. There was no support for Mono-B. Or even "Mono" B, like there is now.

Yup, Grim Lavamancer is still played in 1 or 2 deck types in Legacy...but no where as prevalent as shocks in eternal formats.

Every time I see this thread I'm painfully reminded of the time I sold my entire collection for 20 bucks. Granted I never played anymore by that point (due to just constantly looking for rares that were totally impractical to play with) and when I did I totally cheated like the rest of my friends did (we were like 13), but I had a lot of rares, mostly Legends and Revised era stuff (even then nobody would play with you if you pulled out Moxes).

That's awesome, love it. Gotta love power creep though. 15 years ago Jackal Pup was a 1-man 2/1 with a decent drawback, now they need to give the same thing an awesome ability just to have it see play.

With the advent of the new Black/Green zombies, I feel as if the current zombie deck is going to have to go three color to survive. Unless they spoil some amazing mono black or black/green removal, Zombies will have to splash red to get solid removal.

I'm assuming such a manabase would look something like

4x Overgrown Tomb
4x Woodland Cemetary
4x Blood Crypts
4x Dragonskull Summit
4x Cavern of Souls
3x Swamp

I'm also curious to know if we will even have room for the non-zombies in the deck. If we get another solid two drop zombie, will the deck still be using Blood Artist? Does it have enough competition in the 4 drop slot to kick out Falkenrath Aristocrat?

Guess it might just be too early to speculate.

I thought Izzet vs Golgari was out today. But it is actually out on Friday. Bummer.

Also, how the hell does SCG get away with charging 29.99 for it on preorder? http://sales.starcitygames.com/cardd...product=409988 I understand the value of the cards probably adds up to that, but you should be able to buy the thing at MSRB at most big retail stores.

Really tempted by Dreadbore at $5, I think that's going to jump.

I just realized how many leading deck archetypes are going to disappear after rotation. Should be really interesting to see where standard heads.

They have 11 of the Jaces back up. (Someone just bought 22 - it was 33 a minute ago, lol)

edit: Their system seems to be auto-populating the preorders. I wonder when they'll figure out they've underpriced him.

Wormrakul. Sneak Attack, go. LOL.

B/G zombies will be funny or could evolve to BGR zombies.

Rakdos outside of the R/B kill creature or plainswalker spell, looks weak compared to the others.

Just for confirmation here: Modern decks can have all cards (minus banned ones) 8th Edition and beyond while Standard decks are only the ones from the past year? What do most people play?

Standard is latest block plus the one before that (so, 2 years of content), and it's the most played format as far as I can tell.

Legacy and Vintage both contain stuff from all sets. Legacy just has a more restrictive ban list so it is of a somewhat lower power level.

Okay so legacy would probably be a better choice then, thanks! I should probably focus on getting a standard deck in October once the new set is out.

Since i never played those cards with the dual symbols, is it your choice of 1 or the other, or is it both?
For example, is the dryad Militant 1G1W or is it 1G or 1W? I think i answered my own question as they would have put it as GW if it was both.. but what the hell. Its my stupid question for the day.

One or the other. Its a pretty neat mechanic.
