Has Hotmail been screwy lately for anyone else? Seems like most times I try to log on the formatting is completely broken to the point where I can't even check my email, but every now and then it'll load like it always has. It's been like this for at least the last 4 days.
I'm using Chrome as my browser for the record. |

edit: I opened outlook and it loaded my email in the same way hotmail does but different colors and everything. The format is still broken in the same exact way hotmail's is. edit 2: Now when I type hotmail in it just loads outlook. Guess I'm stuck with it now :\

Hey guys, so recently my computer has been freezing up at random times. Actually, it seems to happen when first booting up rather than days later (I don't turn off my computer often).
The monitor goes into power save mode, indicating no signal and my sound will start skipping if I'm listening to anything. Your basic freeze behavior. So I finally noticed that my ATI 4870 has 2 lights that come on when this happens. It's really hard to read the numbers but I think it's D1601 - Red LED On, shows critical temperature fault D1602 - Red LED On, shows External power connector A was removed They are the 2 lights that are closest to me when looking into the case. It's pretty dusty in there so I'm going to clean it out, but do you think that might be the problem? I don't see how it could be either of the above cases. The power connector was not removed, and the card runs fine 95% of the time, even under load. BTW, I've never dusted out a comp. Is it best to remove the psu and graphics and dust those separately? |

I have a quick flash question. You don't need it downloaded if you use Chrome right? I'm 99% sure the only one I have downloaded is the other version that Steam needs to run videos or other stuff but every now and then it will still pop up saying an update is available but clicking on it just brings me to the website.

I've been having a weird network issue over the last few weeks. We have TWC internet, and I'm using a Netgear wireless n router (about 3-4 years old). We have a lot of devices on the wireless network (laptop, tablet, 2 phones, PS3, Vita, Sonos, Roku), and at least once a day, sometimes more often, all of the devices hooked up wirelessly will lose connection. When this happens, any attempt to load a website on my laptop comes up as a DNS error, our tablet can't find the Sonos, we get signed out of PSN, etc.
I can powercycle the router to fix the problem, but a few hours later it will happen again. I have hooked a device up with a wired connection to the same router, and everything works fine, it is just the wireless devices that are down. I have upgraded to the newest firmware on my router, and I have moved it upstairs to ensure nothing is interfering with the connection, but that hasn't solved the problem. I have called Time Warner, and they say the connection to the modem looks fine, so that's not the issue either. Is it time for a new router or does TechSupportGAF have any ideas? Thanks in advance! |

A few things:
- Does the router have an evenlog? Might be a clue there. - Does it happen if there are only one or two devices connected via Wifi? - Do your neighbours (...) use the same channel for their Wifi? Maybe if they turn their router on, your connections get dropped. |

So the screen on my HP Envy 14 started coming off of the lid on the right side. Eventually the monitor started displaying "Platform Attack Detected" with an Intel Anti theft copyright. I sent it in to HP paying $270 for then to fix it only for them to call and say the part needed isn't available anymore and there's nothing they can do about the screen. I requested that they at least try to get past the error so I can use the laptop for as long as possible because I'm a college student and need it for my work. They said okay, but didn't do anything and just shipped it back to me. The errors still there and they have fucked up the screen way more than it was. Is there anything I can do to bypass that screen and retrieve my files? Its asking for an admin password or server token password. My windows admin password doesn't work.
Hoping I don't have to sell my 2 year old $1200 laptop for parts, Kwix PS. Sorry for the wall of text, I'm on my phone Edit: fixed. Had to call LoJack for the user password

2. Yes, it doesn't seem to matter how many devices are on it when it drops, last night the only thing active on it was my laptop and it still went down. 3. I changed the channel from 11 to 9 yesterday because I saw that 2 connections in my area were also using channel 11. No one in my area is using 9. It didn't help... |

Hey GAF some help with my HP laptop. It is a G62 model, silver in color. I have a couple of issues with my computer, namely in regards to the DC jack not working. I've purchased 3 new DC jacks and the battery still won't charge. I tried the power discharge method (remove adapter and battery and hold the power button for 20 seconds to restart the power supply) but this didn't work either. I feel it may be a issue with the pins in which the DC jack plugs into the motherboard. I feel this is the case because whenever I use a battery from my brother's laptop (he has a DV6 with a similar battery), my computer boots up fine but (despite having replaced the DC jack with a new one) my computer is unable to charge his battery with the ac adapter.
What I'm trying to ask here is should I just go ahead and replace my motherboard (I can do it myself) or should I just chalk it up as a loss and save for another computer?

I have a lousy, cheap HP Windows 7 notebook. I only use it when I'm at school, but lately I've been having issues with it connecting to the internet. I typically boot it up and get "Connected to network; No internet access" with a yellow caution light over my wifi signal. This will eventually go away. Sometimes in 2 minutes, sometimes in a half hour, and then I get working internet for who know how long before the problem starts up again.
Drivers are updated. I've googled around, and there seems to be a bunch of people having similar problems, with people suggesting a whole lot of stuff, but nobody really knowing what the issue is. Anyone else experience this? |

Hm, I can't see any suspicous in that regard. Does the log include a point, where you notice that all your devices disconnect? These (below) seem fairly normal, like shutting down your laptop or leaving with your Android device.

I looked but couldn't find anything specific. Would the log reset when I power cycle the router? Because if it does, then there wouldn't be a record of when it happened. If (when) it happens again, I'll check the log before doing anything else. I also updated to date and time to be correct, I figured that couldn't hurt.

You have to open your computer and see that type of ports it has. What computer do you have?
Most computers should have a PCI-E port but you should check just in case.

Suddenly, I'm having problems with my PC.
One night I started Pandora and went to sleep to music like I always do. In the morning I wake up and my PC is off. Check around and it looks like the power had went off in the night. No big deal. I restart my PC and get ready and leave for work, not paying much attention to it. When I got home and tried to use it again, I noticed how sluggish it was. Like it is running at 1/3rd speed. Also, when I try to run anything with audio, it's really static-y and "pop-y" 90% of the time. On top of that, it takes bout 10-15 minutes to fully load windows and everything with it. I've run two antivirus programs (with no hits) and HijackThis. Running Defrag now but my drive isn't that fragmented. Changed slots and reseated all my RAM. I'm afraid I have a bad memory chip, but I don't get any crashes. Suggestions on what to look for next?

Nobody responded in the Stupid Questions OT, nor has anyone replied on FixYa, so I'll throw this out one more time. My former monitor was a Samsung Syncmaster 2333SW, which had served me well for a bit over three years. (Naturally, its warranty was only one.) A couple weeks ago, it just spontaneously started having intermittent power problems. The display would flicker out, the blue power light would go out, and then seconds later it would come back up and the little "Analog/Digital" box would pop up in the corner of the screen. Sometimes it would do this several times in rapid succession. At first, mashing down on one of the menu buttons seemed to alleviate the problem for hours at a time, but this may have just been a placebo. It would always return the next day at the latest. By the end, no amount of button pushing would help. It would still turn on for a time, but quickly start flickering like mad. I know it is something within the unit itself, because it did this while disconnected from my PC, and with several different power cables. Is there any way to solve this by myself without the need for soldering or extensive electrical knowledge? Is it safe to open an LCD monitor, or will it still have some potentially fatal charge in its capacitors like CRTs are reputed to carry for months? I know I do have to be wary of the mercury in its CFL, but that should be reasonably easy to avoid breaking.

Is Hardware Monitor known to have reporting errors? I just cleaned my PC out today and when I run the program now every now and then the fan speed will be shown as 0 but I don't think any of the fans stopped (I only know of 4 main fans on the tower).
edit: Actually the fan sometimes reporting 0 is under the motherboard category but I didn't even know that had a fan.

I have done nothing to my computer except installing my bluetooth driver. All of a sudden today I have gotten 3 BSODs. I have saved my error reports and they are posted below. Considering I just did a clean install a couple of weeks ago... this is pretty maddening.

Alright, I was in the middle of posting a question on the creationkit.com wiki a few days ago and during the submission the page stopped loading. Now I can't get to creationkit.com. When I attempt to access it, the page doesn't load (Problem Loading Page, The connection was reset).
Here are the things I have tried: 1. Is it down for everyone? I tried sites to verify that the site wasn't down, it isn't. 2. Did I get blocked from the site? I really doubt asking a question about Papyrus scripting the .cast function would get me blocked, but to verify I can still log into my account using my 3G connection. My account is fine so it is something else. 3. Modem/Router blocking ip? I power-cycled my modem/router (Linksys X2000), accessed the router to see if it had blocked the ip or something in the advanced settings and then spent this morning resetting it to the factory defaults. I could access it fine before this week. Unfortunately, none of these things helped my situation. If I use a proxy website, I can still get to the site. What can I do about this? It isn't life-or-death but it is really annoying!

Removed cookies, tried ipconfig dns flush, tried different browser, tried different computer, even used my phone's browser connected to the network. No luck! Tried ISP customer support (Windstream) and my chat session was terminated after a few minutes of waiting. Note that I can connect fine with my phone using 3G.
I don't know the first thing about the Google DNS and I wouldn't know where to begin that. What I found by googling it makes it seem like something I could bork my network with. creationkit.com is the only website I cannot access :\ |

More details about my problem: Crash Dump Analysis
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Crash dump directory: C:\Windows\Minidump Crash dumps are enabled on your computer. On Sat 9/15/2012 4:51:10 PM GMT your computer crashed crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\091512-9703-01.dmp This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x7F1C0) Bugcheck code: 0x9F (0x3, 0xFFFFFA800BDA0060, 0xFFFFF80000B9C518, 0xFFFFFA8007084390) Error: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE file path: C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System company: Microsoft Corporation description: NT Kernel & System Bug check description: This bug check indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state. This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem. The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver which cannot be identified at this time. |

My brother's PC has randomly stopped playing anything on Netflix - when you click on a movie the screen just goes black. It does play the loading animation (blue circle of dots) for a second or so, then goes to a black screen. It used to work fine, but since the problem started, here's what I've tried so far, with no success (tested in Chrome, Firefox and IE):
- Uninstalling Silverlight through Control Panel, reinstalling the latest version. - Uninistalling Silverlight, deleting the registry entries, program files and appdata folders for Silverlight, then reinstalling. - Uninstalling Silverlight via the Windows Install CleanUp program from Microsoft, then reinstalling. - Uninstalling Silverlight using msiexec /x {GUID}, then reinstalling - Downloading an older version of Silverlight (4.6something I think it was, I read that that was sometimes the only version that worked. It failed with Error 1603 at 99% of installation). Does anyone have any other tips to get Silverlight to work? It used to work fine, I'm not sure what's caused it to stop working altogether now. Edit: It works fine on Lovefilm which also uses Silverlight, so this appears to be a problem between Netflix and Silverlight.

Not sure if this should go here or the Laptop thread, but my recent Packard Bell (Intel,Windows 7,bought it 2 years ago) can barely play any games, and I'm not talking recent games, I'm talking games like Fallout or Baldur's Gate etc...
I can play games bought at Steam ok, but those bought on GOG and some on CD (Sam and Max: Hit the Road for example) don't launch. The problem is the following: When I try running those games, the screen flickers in black a few times and goes back to desktop, the game is still open on the toolbar but clicking on it just do the same. Once in a blue moon games will actually run (generally when I first open the computer), steam games flicker a bit but generally work after a few retries, other games just don't work. The most recent game I played must be the Witcher and it worked fine but not anymore, it just drives me mad. Is there a reason my games won't run properly? My graphical card is a Intel (R) HD Graphics and it's updated.

Have you tried pinging creationkit.com? ping creationkit.com -n 200 About Google DNS, you could try that. Right click your network in your taskbar and choose Network and Sharing Center, next go to change adapter settings on the left side. Right click active network adapter and hit properties. Then head to IPv4 and go to properties. You want to manually set your DNS as shown. You may leave IP on automatic/dynamic. ![]() Try ping again with the new DNS settings. You can also change it back to default by using the automatic option.

Alright, so I was moving things around yesterday, hooked my Dreamcast back up, and noticed that sound was only coming from the left speaker. I use a vga box by retro-bit, so I switched to the normal cable and the sound came back. Now, even though I know the box is the problem, I'm not sure how I should go about fixing it, or finding a replacement (as they're sold out everywhere). I know very little about circuit boards, but I'm willing to learn a thing or two to get this fixed. I just need to buy the soldering equipment. Anyway, maybe you guys can give me some insight on what to do, or where to start. Here is a pic of the board http://imgur.com/e3l2Z
