Cinematography looks on point. I love how they lit Dredd in some of those shots. Very imposing.

Judge Dredd according to my 2000AD fanboy friend is VERY one dimensional. He in a way is extremely predictable. He is emotionless and devotes himself completely to the law. The closest he had to a love interest to my knowledge is Judge Demarco, who was on his nuts like flies on shit but he was not interested. I also think it's not allowed intrajudicial liaisons amongst judges or some shit.

@ bold: Yep it's not allowed and with Dredd being so devoted to the law he basically ignores her (although that same thing got her in some really deep shit and he helped her out along with her family name).

As for Dredd he is devoted to the law but he did some pretty shady shit that could have been seen as breaking it imo (Democratic March) and he has a few times gotten disillusioned about it.


This movie looks really interesting and more in line with the comics

Agreed. 5 years from now I have a feeling the new movie will be forgotten and the face of Dredd will be that of Stalone. The old movie remains one of my fun guilty pleasures. It is a classic from the time when action movies were king and it was all about the fun adventure - with guns.

This new movie is going to take itself too seriously and become a generic action flick forgotten about the next weekend.

BTW, I was watching Louis Theroux's Law and Disorder in Johannesburg and I thought that Joburg is quite probably the closest thing to a modern day Mega-City One in terms of fuckedupness and chaos. The filming location makes all the more sense.

Edit: Dredd was actually filmed in Cape Town, but you get the idea anyway.

Well the BBFC have rated it an 18 and unsurprisingly for a lot of the violent films i wanna see it reads like a PR press release. The thing is it kinda seems spoilerish with regards to what violent scenes can be expected in the film

According to the BBFC, the $45 million movie contains “frequent strong violence throughout the film, much of which is bloody and gory in nature, and some of which dwells on the infliction of pair and injury. For example, there is sight of a man being skinned alive and sight of a man's face burning and disintegrating.” The statement continues with “There is frequent use of strong language and frequent use of a futuristic and fantastical drug which has the ability to prolong pleasure. I'm not South African, but my step father is, and I've been to the country a half dozen times, half of which were for extended visits. It's not horrible unless you hang out around the townships...
