Media Create Sales: Week 39, 2012 (Sep 24 - Sep 30)

I remember hearing that Zelda has declined in Japan, but sometimes I feel like the Zelda game caters a bit more to the West than it used to. Maybe it's a gross generalization, but haven't the Wind Waker style games like PH, ST and, well, WW sold more than most other Zelda games?

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D has already outsold Twilight: Princess.

Calling it Twilight: Princess will get a few people mad. :p

Anyone know how long has it taken previous platforms to have a 2m hit?

I think so - only thing that makes sense.
Improving the 3DS accounts would honestly help a lot more; atm I think people probably feel their not buying anything - Nintendo needs to make it feel physical and that their download is secure.

Agree; portable seems like the way to go for the series - OoT showed the 3DS as a capable device in this respect.
Personally I'd keep the artstyle of OoT for 3DS games and go back to Windwaker style on WiiU
believe[/believe]
Yep, portable AND console is the way the to go for the series :)

Sure, it did well for a remake. I just meant as a whole the Zelda series isn't really setting the charts on fire in Japan.

Yes, also if there aren't so many games able to sell 500K with remakes, in Japan.
SS issues are more related to the status of the console when it hit the market or to the episode itself, imho, if PH and Oot are able to put those number on the table.

It's still to be understood if for Japan is becoming more portable-oriented or whetever.

TP numbers were solid too, but are related to a moment when, thanks to the Wii, the home market was still relevant.

General consideration: I' curious to see, with the release of the Wii U and with the release of big software on PS3, if the home market can regain some market share in Japan versus the portable segment, considering the struggling VIta situation

TP also had around 100k (iirc) direct sales on Gamecube to consider, which none of the trackers counted afaik.

The performance of SS reminds me a lot of MM, 2nd Zelda released at the system's end and peripheral dependant, it manages about half the sales of it's predecessor.

Common sense says home consoles will easily regain marketshare even if Wii U doesn't explode right out the gate. 3DS is no DS and Vita is a non factor.

Yes, but the market could be thinner than in the past, economical struggles could be affecting it more than we believe, smartphone market is increasing, Wii U could not be able to penetrate the market as the Wii did in its beginning, PS3 is selling less than 2012 and so on...

Please consider that my speech was inteded to include "the generation", more than the immediate launch period of the WiiU or simply the 2013 year.

I agree, and I repeat: I think that the brand is still strong as PH and Oot but also TP demonstrated. It depends on single episode/status of the console moment, imho

Not at all.
I think that some Wii ad DS titles have signed records that will be repeated only in many years, in particular economical/mode situations (and not necessarely by Nintendo itself). Something like the Wii selling 4 million units in one month only in the US, or MH selling 5 millions with a single SKU in Japan only.

I think it will sell well, with a LTD over 2 millions, btw.

No MH has ever sold 5 million units with a single SKU.

100k from eshop there is no way has happened.

What is this in reference to? He was talking about the GCN Twilight Princess being sold directly by Nintendo in Japan. Don't recall seeing a number from that (maybe from shipment reports?) so can't speak to the 100K, but he wasn't talking about the eShop.

Maybe it's because the game was only sold online? (IIRC)

Stop being anti-Nibel Chris, it hurts

Takao was saying that if Zelda wasn't "lighting the sales charts on fire," he'd love for Gravity Rush to not be "lighting the sales charts on fire" like Zelda, since that'd mean 300K+ for Gravity Rush.

Ah, so the maximum limit would be ~25K (unless that sold out and they made more). Nice to know.
I think this is the confusion:

eShop = 3DS online store for downloads.

Nintendo Online Shop is not the eShop.
Yeah, figured Chris1964 might be using "eShop" as shorthand for Nintendo's selling it online, but wanted to make sure he wasn't talking about something else, since they're not the same thing. Thanks!

Are we going to get the Prediction League results today?

I massively underestimated Gundam.

Everyone underestimated Gundam (I assume you don't mean Gundam AGE). You had the 2nd lowest number, only Nekki had it lower at 25k (Maybe he forgot a zero?). I didn't notice at the time people were betting on such low numbers.

Or maybe I did...

Not sure if anybody is interested in these, but I took these today at my local Sofmap.

Wii U pre-order card location. You take one of those little cards up to the counter to pre-order one. Usually when there are no more cards, is when they stop taking pre-orders.The MH3G Wii U bundle is sold out. (that happened on the first day of pre-orders)
IMG_1659_a.jpg

Closer look at the cards. The Premium bundle Wii U cards were pretty reduced, there were a lot of Basic bundle cards left.
IMG_1660_a.jpg

Here's a picture of the main aisle in the store. (I blurred out the people's faces.) Those pre-order Wii U things hanging run all along the length of that aisle to the entrance of the store. One side has the Basic bundle and the other side has the Premium bundle advertised. The closest one in the picture is right next to the Vita.
IMG_1662_a.jpg

Might be a bit hard to see. Sorry, for the bad pics. I can upload larger size pics of these three if requested. I shrunk them down for posting.

And still the Zelda franchise has sold more than Gravity Rush and its sequels ever will, what's your point? This is childish

I honestly don't know how you took offense to that. donny2112 explained my comment pretty well. There never was anything to get angry about in that post ... ?

Edit: Anyways, Shinriji has been posting up the top best selling Vita games on PSN (the numbers are the amount of user ratings, and their score out of 5)

I honestly don't know how you took offense to that. donny2112 explained my comment pretty well. There never was anything to get angry about in that post ... ?

There was... you mentioned Gravity Rush and Zelda in one sentence... how dare you!

Everyone underestimated Gundam (I assume you don't mean Gundam AGE). You had the 2nd lowest number, only Nekki had it lower at 25k (Maybe he forgot a zero?). I didn't notice at the time people were betting on such low numbers.

Or maybe I did...

It hurts because it's true :/

Maybe i should stop for a while, go into the wild, and come back stronger, lol.
