Blizzard Entertainment files complaint to acquire HeroesofWarcraft.com #1

http://fusible.com/2012/11/blizzard-...m-domain-name/

Quote:
Now, Blizzard Entertainment is attempting to acquire the domain HeroesofWarcraft.com, only instead of having to pay what may be a lot of money demanded by its current owner, the company has filed a complaint (Case No. 1470639) with the National Arbitration Forum in hopes of the name being ordered transferred to their control.
Quote:
It’s unknown what Blizzard has planned for “Heroes of Warcraft” or why the company had to file a dispute, but the company hinted at something more for Heroes of Warcraft back in September when it registered the name HeroesofWarcraft.co.uk
Quote:
To win this dispute, the company must demonstrate that all of the elements enumerated in paragraph 4(a) of the Policy have been satisfied:

(1) that the disputed domain name registered by the Respondent is identical or confusingly similar to a trademark or service mark in which the Complainant has rights; and

(2) that the Respondent has no rights or legitimate interests in respect of the disputed domain name; and

(3) that the disputed domain name has been registered and is being used in bad faith

I have no sympathy for domain squatters.

Blizzard registered HeroesofWarcraft.co.uk first and then .com was registered by a domain squatter? If that is the case, then give it to blizzard I say.

Sounds like it could be a MOBA or CC game.

Probably the latter, maybe a Dota-like? Or does that just make too much sense?

MOBA, bet the house on it. MMO's are old news now it seems and MOBA's are becoming bigger, Valve took Dota so what better way to make bank than a WoW MOBA?

Just call it Lords of Warcraft if it's a LOMA.

Ugh. Probably not the correct outlet to say this but I hate the Moba term.

Smash Bros., Doom, GoldenEye 007, and Mario Kart are all Moba games, going by what the acronym represents.

It'll be a digital version of the TCG game.

Sounds like they're trying to protect their brandname. Doesn't necessarily mean a game will come out with this title.

No, when the term RPG was defined there was a clear demarcation between which games fell under that banner and which didn't.

You're talking about a term that was coined decades ago versus a bullshit moniker that was made a few years ago to define something that already fit under a clear genre label which more precisely describes the gameplay than the Moba term.

Which clear genre label would that be?

RTS is more accurate than a genre label that also fits every single multiplayer FPS under the sun.

Add an "Action" at the start of RTS and you are getting somewhere.

nah, you control a single hero, Strategy is definetly not the right genre description for the games. Just because the control schemes are similar doesn't mean they are in the same genre.

How people use the term MOBA is more important than what words it is composed of anyway.

So it's no longer going to be called Blizzards All-Stars then?
