3ds continues to be a monster especially the software. Paper Mario is gonna cross the 400k mark next week which looks pretty good to me.

If WiiU (a console designed to appease the JP living room) cannot crack the market in japan....

I think is almost safe to say that Japan is a handheld market. Well, 3ds market at this point.

It seems that Famitsu stop tracking PS2 and NDS :(

Cranky. Very cranky.
Rather sarcastic to boot.

good to see the far superior game selling better.
Why would you do that?

I'm a bit confused. It says last year the 3DS sold 203k but also the last YTD was 203k? Was that a mistake, or is last year not week 52, or...?

I thought the census was ~80k for this week? and probably a small bump for next week, considering MC numbers often differ from Famitsu's, it could be the case that Wii U disappointed by a bit more than expected. 77k however seems to be in line with expectations iirc.

Yeah, it was an expected drop, certainly. It still missed even the more modest expectation for that drop though.

I'm not confident that there's upcoming software that'll keep things "steady" at the very least, so this sucker may plummet faster than the bullet bill in that one gif.

I'm surprised by this little drop (not that it'll change the bad overall performance) . Positive news?

Some historical console numbers seem wonky, but that's alright.

Paper Mario is doing much better than I thought it would. I had no idea how popular it was. I bet Fantasy Life will sell pretty well in 2013. Hopefully word of mouth takes it far. I wonder how far word of mouth can take Animal Crossing. It's definitely broke some boundaries other games did not break.

I'm not worried about the WiiU yet. These numbers aren't good by any means, but I don't think they are horrible (there is an in between). Dragon Quest X and Pikmin 3 are still on the way, and they're bound to be announcing games soon (January or February?)

It's great the 3DS is doing great, and I hope it turns into more 3rd party support for Japan and the West, so Nintendo can focus more on making great WiiU games.

Vita is doing bad, but I'll still buy one before I buy a WiiU. With Tactics Ogre and whatnot at 2000 yen, I can have fun for years with it.

Due to the holiday period, considering the lack of software in the chart.

I'd expect one more week at this level, then a steady decline.

A week is 7 days. 7 days * 52 weeks = 364 days. Of course, a year is 365 or 366 days, so there is an extra day or two not accounted for when you count a year as 52 weeks. Those days add up over time, so Famitsu and Media Create need to create a Week 53 from time to time.

I would expect it to drop yes, I figure it will not sell through it's shipments until sometime in Feburary, and then maybe receive a total of 500k more units for japan in Q1, but that is still 1.5M for japan between launch and April 1st.

Also, sorry for the ego-trip but I'm glad I was right when saying last week, after we had the 1rst day sell-through:

So much 3DS software on the chart, it's hard to know where to start. It really does look like it's starting to hit it's stride now. No other platform really looks that strong right now and it'll be interesting to see how any of them plan to change that.

Famitsu had 53 weeks in 2012, but there was no week 53 in 2011, so the YTD from last year were just the numbers from 52 weeks ago (the way the table is currently being generated). I didn't bother to make any special conditions in the formula. =P

I could manually just copy the same YTD from week 52 in 2011, I guess, but the comparison isn't apples to apples. Maybe I should leave it blank?

The Original wii made 989.000

The last day could be no more than 20.000 consoles so it doesn't change anything.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the Wii launch one week earlier? Not that I'm expecting the same level of performance for the Wii U but it's worth taking this into account.

No, the Japanese name is Endou Mamoru

And it's so strange when, while an Inazuma Eleven episode is aired on Disney XD here in Italy, the show description calls him with the Japanese name ( Endou Mamoru indeed) and not with the English one used in the show :lol

What did you expect?

They probably have to switch into beast mode again like they did with the 3DS and it's their own fault for many reasons. Those sales are not good and should be way better considering we're talking about Nintendo here.

6 days. Even counting a 100.000k a week it is still far below. The launch was weaker and the last week was only 75k it won't change a lot

I expected pretty much what we got. My post wasn't one of surprise, just expected disappointment. Maybe a little more so than I expected actually.

I can only see U sales continue to plummet considering Nintendo has nothing to release on it. Suprised Monster Hunter sales are so poor on the U. It's clearly a handheld franchise.

Given their past few Directs I'd say they need about ten for Wii U.

I'd just say/use below, without the "far" because I don't consider 25% less as "far below". But it's just me.

I wonder what will be an acceptable drop for the Wii U next week.

What's the reaction if it drops to 50k? 40k? Can't drop to less than 30k, can it?

Doing another ambassador program will set a bad precedent for the industry. At least nintendo.

Why bother buying the console at launch? Just wait a few months for the obligatory price drop and free games.
