XSEED's 2013 Lineup

I'm glad we're finally seeing 3DS retail games from XSEED.

However, I guess there weren't really any released games from smaller folks that would warrant a retail localization, Unchained went to eShop in NA.

X Zone and BD would (and are for X Zone) be brought by their western divisions.

I mean off hand the other games that come to mind but wouldn't suit XSEED would be:

Class of Heroes 3D (I would see Atlus or NISA if anyone)
Virus Shooter XX (wicked niche, looked like an eShop game before the service existed, UFO would suit it)
Zoo Keeper 3D (Ignition if they still did retail games, would work for eShop)
Azito 3D (looks kinda poor, novelty at most, UFO or Agetec would suit it)
Senran Kagura (this actually has a shot... buuuuuuuut.......)
Beyond the Labyrinth (got poor reception didn't it? Maybe Aksys would take a chance?)
Runabout 3D (was said to be coming as Crash City Mayhem by Majesco, but nada)
Metabots 7 (Natsume's court)
Any Level 5 game (That's in L5 America's court)
Taiko (not a fitting genre, I think Namco would bring it themselves if ANYONE)
Puyo Puyo (same, Atlus did bring over Fever DS, so Sega might allow someone)
Kokuga (this actually fits with Rising Star as they're doing G-Rev games)
EX Troopers (even Capcom admitted why this is in fact impossible, it's the hard coded text)

Culdcept would actually fit really well as part of the TLS and PT deal, but maybe Nintendo will actually do this eventually? Calciobit I don't see it in NA, but yes in EU, soccer is HUGE there after all. :p

Rising Star Games is a newcomer in NA and they seem to be doing everything, from smaller, maybe not really great games to really good niche games, so anything seems to fit with them.

So yeah, I guess this is why XSEED's been slow to the 3DS party, the other good ones like Code of Princess were snatched by Atlus. :p

I see KAIO: King of Pirates and Dragon Marked for Death with XSEED perfectly.

Yeah. As soon as I read Killer is Dead my dick increased to 28 inches.

XSEED has a very nice lineup this year. Who would have thought?

Honestly I think there'll always be enough niche games for companies like XSEED to bring over.

Yay, there's a + for Chronicles. I hope that's good news. If it is that's my most wanted game on this list.

This seems to be the biggest question I'm seeing from our announcement, so I figured I'd jump in and address it.

Steam programmer and all-around miracle worker Sara essentially managed to combine Ys I & II Chronicles with the earlier fan-favorite PC release Ys I & II Complete, effectively mixing all the best features of both versions. That means it's got the selectable soundtracks and selectable art styles from Chronicles alongside the visual flexibility of Complete (including a greater viewing area, togglable screen frame and support for windowed mode).

Plus it's got a few updates, like the ability to resize the window in windowed mode and have the graphics scale smoothly, as well as the usual complement of achievements and leaderboards.

The achievements are a little different this time, too. Based on feedback received from our Felghana and Origin Steam releases, we've tried to feature fewer incremental achievements and instead go for more once-and-done tasks... but with a twist. Some of these achievements are meant for long-time Ys fans, so their unlock conditions are occasionally kind of like puzzles unto themselves. But if you are a long-time series fan, you can theoretically attain every single achievement on one single playthrough.

The rest of our game announcements are pretty straight-forward, but if anyone has any specific questions, feel free to ask. I might not be able to answer, of course... but hey, I can try! ;)

Comment from Wyrdwad about the + in Chronicles+.

- The "+" in Ys I & II Chronicles+ is to signify that it's not just a straight-up English release of the Japanese PC version of Ys I & II Chronicles, but a Frankensteining of that game with the earlier Japanese PC release Ys I & II Complete (which had more graphics options and a larger viewing area), as well as the usual addition of achievements and leaderboards and such (and the achievements are a bit different this time, as their unlock conditions are occasionally like puzzles unto themselves, but you can theoretically attain all of them on a single playthrough if you know Ys I & II inside and out!).

Edit: Thanks for making my quoting you redundant!

Nice! Can't wait to grab it. You guys have really done an outstanding job with your Steam releases.

Sounds great! Any word on an EU release for these games? Even a digital release would be fine.

Well, Chronicles+ will be available worldwide, of course, from day one (most likely with appropriate pricing adjustments for different regions). Can't say yet on any of the other titles, though. We'll post news regarding European releases if and when we have it.

So what's the pricing gonna be like on Ys I/II? I mean, you guys already have a direct connection to my bank account anyways, but it'd be nice to know lol.

y u no giv Senran Kagura Shinobi Versus? :<

I'm actually wondering if there's some taboo against every bringing such a series to the West.

I think you're deluded if you believe the games announced so far will keep the Vita "alive". But as a gamer with certain tastes, I'm pretty happy, more or less.

I don't see much incentive for Sony in killing the Vita. R&D is sunk cost, the first party teams working on games aren't the teams you give an eight figure PS4 budget to, they aren't losing money per hardware unit, and do make healthy profit on the memory cards and games. It will never set the world on fire, but as long as they can keep a slow burn going it is a viable platform for them. The 2013 lineup is exactly the kind of games that will keep that slow burn going.

Therefore, nothing is truly needed to keep the Vita alive as long as Sony doesn't release a runaway success in the handheld/smart phone/tablet sector that would gobble up the same manufacturing resources.

You can't just buy one. This is a package deal only. You must buy all of them. ALL OF THEM.
D-: Am I exempt if I've already pre-ordered Pandora's Tower?

There probably is. Not that this is confirmation of such, but I thought Nich M's tweet from a few weeks ago was pretty funny.

Killer is Dead is an unusual case in that you have announced you are publishing the game before it is released. Is anyone from XSeed actually involved in the production of Killer is Dead, the way for example Warner Bros was in Lollipop Chainsaw? Even as, like, an overseas producer just giving notes to try to make the game more globally accessible?

I'm assuming there will be delicious LE's planned for the handheld titles no?

Will we see more 3DS retail announcements soon enough? As I noted above a lot of games aren't in your usual alley, but maybe you'll surprise us with some unexpected games?

And will XSEED stay committed to Rune Factory going forward, or is this yet another "one time" thing?

It is unusual, but not completely unheard of as we've done it for other games like Little King's Story and now Valhalla Knights 3. On the development side, we can give our feedback to the dev team as we play early builds and make suggestions, but the final decision on all gameplay matters are ultimately with them. We do get to do a wee bit of tweaking to the script, though.

Is Valhalla Knights any good? Never heard of it before, except maybe in passing.

I really liked the first PSP game. The second wasn't terrible, but went in a few directions that I thought were better handled in the first. The Wii game was too much of an attempt to be Monster Hunter for my tastes.

I'm hoping VK3 gets back a bit more to what I loved in the first game, so I'm really looking forward to giving it a chance.

I want to believe you're right, but I don't have that much confidence. :(

I think if a platform does well in at least one region, it can continue to flounder elsewhere and be viable. But if you can't generate decent revenue anywhere at all, it's just going to be erosive to your business.

Has Unchained Blades been peen put up on EU psn? They used to be pretty good about putting up psp games when there wasn't a european publisher for it but Unchained Blades being no show on PSN OR 3DS does make me worry.
No, it's nowhere to be found here.

Looking at PSP games and prices on EU PSN, I kind of hope XSEED are the ones to bring that stuff over. Ghostlight are nice in the risks they're willing to take I guess but their prices are terrible compared to the games XSEED publishes.

While you're all here - what's up with Ragnarok Odyssey trophies? Any ETA on a translation and fix?

It's already been fixed, but sadly, it's not (and unfortunately can't be) a retroactive fix -- if you got hit by the Japanese trophy issue, your trophies will remain that way. If it REALLY, REALLY bothers you, there is a way to make them display properly, but it involves doing a hard reset of your Vita system that's extremely risky. And since there are such huge risks involved (such as losing all of your data), it's definitely NOT something we recommend at all.

If you want to give it a shot anyway, though, feel free to write in to support@xseedgames.com, and we'll send you a disclaimer-filled set of step-by-step instructions on how to do it.

But again... definitely not recommended!

Sorry for the trouble.

If I had a Vita, I'd be all over Ys: Memories of Celceta and Valhalla Knights 3.

Killer is Dead, Panora's Tower, and Ys I&II+ will all be mine.

Speaking of RO, you guys should post on your website and actual 100% list for Items and Skills.

I've gone through 4-5 different ones online, and all are missing something or other.
Even the printed guide from the Merc edition has a few omissions regarding boss items.

I hope those suggestions for "more globally accessible" include "needs to be more of a mindfuck".

I'd assume this would be mainly be resetting to factory default though, right? Nothing a backup beforehand (especially with PS+) can't fix?

Also: I knew Ys Celceta would be coming. Wished it were earlier, Summer at least, but better to get it at all than never, yes?

My SO had 7 trophies unlocked, but they converted to English just fine. Glad there's a little wiggle room to get it working, because I'm not sure she would have liked losing her progress! Thanks.

Edit: Wait, only the local vita trophy list is translated. Oh well, that's good enough.

Seeing as I have no first hand experience with any version of Ys 1 & 2 on PC, I'm curious how the resolution works out. Wondering if I am going to end up playing full screen, full screen with borders, or windowed mode for 1:1 pixels.

Full screen would be ideal, since, you know, TV. But if that's going to look godawful I will have to do something else.
