the Rayman Legends devs aren't happy with the delay. WiiU version done?

Update 2:
The developer wrote a message last month celebrating the project's completion, presumably before the news of the game's delay was handed down.

"Today is a great day! We've closed Legends [development] :)" read a post dated 9th January. "See what you think next month!"

It's unclear who the Zeta69 account belongs to, but years worth of posts point to an ex-Ubisoft Montpellier employee who worked at the company for some time. The developer left on 31st January after the end of Rayman Legends' Wii U development.

He/she describes visiting E3 with Ubisoft last year while working on Rayman Legends and previous projects at Ubisoft Montreal, such as Rainbow Six: Vegas and Far Cry 2. Several recent posts allude to the news of yesterday's delay.

Update:
The post is real. Afaik Zeta69 is Xavier, the guy at the stage on the last E3.

I completely understand you but you have to understand one thing. This is not a decission taken by the development team, this comes from really really high up, so please don't pick on the game.

If you're pissed, imagine how we feel. Think on the situation, we've been making overtime with this game practically since May preparing E3, and then almost a demo per month (gamescon, Wii U presentation, shops, eShop, etc...) and at the same time trying to actually finish the game. We had a first delay because it was obvious we couldn't finish on time but we gave it all to be there on February. What face do you think we had when the week we had to close the game we're being told it's not going to be released? I couldn't believe it.

For practical matters, you'll have to wait for some months for the game to be released and will most likely serve for more content to be added and do it better. For us, this means we've spent 6 months barely seeing our wifes, kids, and friends for nothing because, after all, such a haste wasn't needed. Believe it, it was a hell to swallow these news.

Even then I'm firm in what I said back in the day, Rayman Legends is an excellent game and will still be, and the team that's making it doesn't deserve to have your back turned on them just because some men in ties one day took a wrong choice. This industry is really that shitty

And the time of year they want to release it at sounds like they want to send it out to die.

This is unfortunate.

OH SHIT. Guillemot, fuck you.

My condolences to Ancel and the rest of the Legends development team for trying to make the February deadline. Poor guys.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
But a Ubisoft employee on this very board told me the 7 month delay was needed to improve the game!

The fact that the delay was announced ~3 weeks before release is all the information we need to know that the game was done.

Wow, really sorry for the team. :( We still love you, Montpellier are uber talented. :)

Should've at least brought the Wii U version out now, but hopefully Wii U will get any extra content added, but having so little time with your family? THAT MAKES ME ANGRY! :(

That's exactly what the poor overworked dev asked you not to do. That achieves nothing.

I'm not buying that game from the devs. I'm buying it from the fucktards who decided it would be in their best interests to delay a game that should have been done as an exclusive to WiiU for purely commercial reasons.

I'm voting with my wallet.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
It of course doesn't paint a pretty picture that they were crunching so hard up to this week, but thats vidyagames development for you. Game will be better because of more breathing space and polish.

Let this harrowing tale at least be the counterpoint to all the bratty would be political activists trying to make a statement by not buying videogames on purpose and dropping mics after announcing their protest.

I for one would like to reward this hardworking fellow with a launch date purchase, rather than spurn the devs entirely and future 2D Rayman games due to the actions of Mr Twirly 'I'VE ALREADY DELAYED IT IN MY MIND BUT NOT TOLD THEM' Moustache-Man.

I never figured they would be happy about this but didn't even consider the crunch time many potentially put in for the February release.

I hope at least the improvements and content added from this point are done on a reasonable pace.

What would you suggest?

I don't want to give Ubisoft a fucking dime of my money ever, ever again. It is NOT OKAY what happened here, and what's worse is that they've sent the game to die against GTA V and all the other juggernauts that are going to be releasing Q4, some of which could potentially be coming from Nintendo themselves.

On the other hand, I'd like to buy the game to support the development team. I don't know what to do.

Fuck this industry. Fuck it to hell.

This is what pisses me off the most. 3 - 4 mere weeks away and now I have to wait 7 fucking months for it. Just because!

It's a tricky one, but not buying it just gives that same oily suit the right to look at the predictably shite sales when the game gets hung out to dry amongst GTA V, CoD and the new WiiU Mario/Kart games, shrug his soldiers and say "Well, this industry".

Wrong - if Ubi make lots of money from terrible choices like this, then what incentive do they have to change?

Well they released a niche sequel to a 90's platformer series in November before, you assume they'd have learnt their lesson from making no money.

Though I have no doubt this is exactly how the dev team is feeling right now, I find it hard to believe one of them would be allowed to speak so openly about the situation. Unless he's doing so without the approval of the higher-ups, in which case, oops.

Not just because.

Just because they want to sell it to Xbox 360 and PS3 owners who didn't give a shit about the franchise to begin with. Origins flopped.

Woah, that sounds bitter. Good luck to the development team, hope they're treated better in the future.

Sucks for the devs but at least it being multiplatform insures this tittle to be a bit more of a success since its not all eggs in one basket. This at least will maybe ensure more ubi tittles on Wii U down the road.

Are we conveniently forgetting this game came out on the Wii? Is that what we are doing now?

It's not my job to pity the developers, grow some balls and stand up to the higher ups within the publisher. Don't cry to us, I'm not their friend They want my money? Well, they ain't getting it now. Simple as that.

What system were you going to buy it on? Wii U, I assume? By not buying it you are proving them right that the Wii U version wasn't going to have many sales, and they were justified in what they did (multiplat with unified marketing).

They'll be all "oh look, it only sold 200k on Wii U, see? Can you imagine how that would've looked on our quarterly report all by itself? Now we get to report a million total because of the other platforms."

Nobody buys the game = Ubisoft shrugging and saying "Oh, nobody wants 2D games, platformers, or anything but Asscreed after all. Good to know. We won't bother making any more of that stuff."

Maybe it's fucked, but that's the industry.

I'm sure the dev team marching up to the CEO and demanding they cancel the PS360 versions and/or go ahead and ship the WiiU version right now would work great.

This is an industry that shutters entire studios with 2 hours notice and escorts everyone out of the building without allowing them to retrieve personal effects from their lockers.

I forgot about red box, i'll rent this game instead of buying.

would have bought on wii u but like i said in other threads, too many games in September

sorry rayman legends developers, loved the wii u demo

If you boycott, and the game sells like shit, devs may lose their jobs. Ubi will barely feel anything.

I'm not supporting publishers who resort to this type of action. Full stop.
