the Rayman Legends devs aren't happy with the delay. WiiU version done?

Don't cry if the game doesn't hit sales projections, the studio gets closed down, and there is never another Rayman title ever made, then.

If you guys don't buy it, who will?

I'm making a decision to not support shitty publisher decision making versus supporting developers.

Unfortunate for them if it burns them, but I feel that's the right decision.

That's not our responsibility. They're the business, we're the customers. It's their job to sell us on their products. If they want to do something like this, then they're responsible for the consequences.

It's not proactive. It buries the game in between GTAV and new console hype. Far fewer people are going to buy it in 7 months. There's no reason the Wii U version shouldn't come out now, when it's supposedly so close to being ready.

This constant fear of other big releases is just maddening. No one game sells to everybody or anywhere close to half of everybody. It's a big market out there. If the game can't sell in September, it simply cannot sell.

if you're looking for respect, you've got the wrong hobby.

name me 5 3rd party games on any system you like, i guarantee at least 3 of them had severe crunch time.

Yes they had. And it was for the sake of respecting delays. It is hard, but understandable. You can accept it as aconstraint of your line of work. Now if you do crunch to finish in February a game to be release 7 months later, this is neither understandable nor acceptable.

Im sure this game was part of the decision towards purchasing the system for some, now delayed 7 months and not exclusive, its just wrong to screw people like this, just wrong.

I'm wondering if some current-gen policies are moving on to next-gen as well. If the game comes out for WiiU now, and Ubisoft decides to port to the PS3/PS4, doesn't Sony have a policy that for late ports there needs to have extra content or they won't let the publisher sell it on their system ( I can see MS enacting the same policy)?

If thats the case, its cheaper to delay the WiiU version rather than make extra content for the PS3/PS4/360/Durango.

WiiU version not having issues with development acording to Ubisoft rep:
"There are no issues with the game development. All of the information was in the press release, the only reason for the delay is to release on multiple platforms," Ubisoft public relations specialist Sarah Irvin said.

"In this case, Ubisoft recently decided they wanted to release the game on multiple platforms so the decision was made to launch them all at the same time rather than separately.
So yeah, fuck them.
Wow, they're not even trying to hide the bullshit anymore, because they know there's nothing that can be done about it. Boycotts would only hurt the developers, not the suits making these mind-numbingly inept decisions.

cool. but like he said, don't cry if that happens.

Really hope this ends terribly for Ubisoft and that the dev team finds a better home ASAP. Ancel needs to forget Rayman and move on from Ubi, they're poison.

Well it's going to tank on WiiU now isn't it. At the moment there isn't that much content for WiiU so a Feb 26th release date would have been very welcome and I'm sure the attach rate would have been fairly high.

But release in Sept. When I've got other games to pick. Er... No thanks.

Ha! Well, they lost a sale from you, but gained one from me. Now I can just play it on my PS3 without needing to buy a new console :)

Well it's a shitty move to the wiiU owner, but not supporting the publisher that seems to be supporting the wiiU the most may not be the best decision

We're stuck. We hate Ubisoft the publisher, but love Ubisoft Montpellier the developer. Ancel and his studio are hugely talented and deserve to be treated better than they are.

So fucked up. I was looking forward to playing it in a couple weeks but in the fall there will be so many other games I may not pick it up. Such a bad decision by Ubisoft.

My heart bleeds for the devs. This is really a shitty situation for them to be in.

Still, that wouldn't influence a hypothetical buy/no buy decision I would have made before that.

I mean, sure, they're being treated like cattle, but they get paid for it and they do it out of their own volition.

I am not obligated to lick their wounds or pay their salary, especially not if their superiors are what they appear to be. I'm not a charity.

If you want to plead for my goodwill and nonsensical spending habits, go indy and/or kickstart something I'm interested in. If you yourself fuck up and I like you well enough I'll still slip you a tenner whenever I'm able. If you're bound by instructions you will be treated like whoever calls the shots. Unfortunate, but eh, that's the world for ya. Firm and unfair.

Good luck to those poor guys and gals. I'd probably have to call in sick for a week if I were in their place.

If it all goes tits up, hopefully they can get scooped up by a publisher that won't treat them like garbage.

Pretty crazy. I hate to sound like a broken record but the Wii U truly is screwed when it comes to third party games.

Fuck Ubi. I couldn't care less if they want to port the game but to stop it from coming out in a few weeks is just a shame.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Definitely won't rush out to buy this in September now.

As for what message does it send? Well, there's Miiverse for that.

That's not my problem. They should have predicted the inevitable reaction before coming up with such a crappy decision.

"Saturated fat causes heart disease as much as Brawndo is what plants crave."
I know that feel. Even if fake, the quote in the OP clearly has experienced software development. Working extra hours to reach an overly aggressive goal only to extend it for months. That's rotten work culture...if it persists people's quality of work goes down and people start leaving the company.

Why on Earth was it not being simultaneously developed for the 360/PS3 with the WiiU. Guessing it really was going to be exclusive, again something that makes no sense given how many platforms Origins was on and how successful it had been.

Hahaha, man this is too funny. Don't want to spend too much money on marketing.

One thing strikes me: I didn't buy Origins because of Ubisoft's marketing, I bought it due to the good word of mouth on here and elsewhere.

I would have expected that the Wii U release now would have generated said word of mouth for Legends, leading to owners of PS3 and 360 who heard about it being more interested in the game when it released *there*.

This game is gonna be nuked by the release of the two new consoles and the 1st wave of next gen games.
God knows what Ubi is thinking with their release strategy, but Ancel and Co. seem like the luckiest losers in the world. They work for a company that lets them make the amazing games they want, but refuse to sell them properly. Madness.

I loved Origins so much that I was going to buy a Wii U for this game. To say I am disappointed it got pushed to September is understating it.

In spite of that, I really don't understand the boycott talk. You want to play this game. It is delayed. So given to option of playing it later or never playing it, you are going to pick the second option?!

Soooo

Does this make Monster Hunter the reaper of the starved Wii U drought sales instead?

I could live with that! I'll need more people buying that game now since we can't play with other regions anyways!

Great post. You people need to stop punishing the developers for releasing such a quality title in a genre that's rarely pushed (and completely stagnant due to Mario).

Same here. I generally thought Rayman games were just OK, and not really great. But from reading impressions of Rayman Origins, and having it recommended from my friends, I decided to try it out, and had a good time.

Imagine that happening.

That would be awesome

Some people don't like to be treated as second-zone customers and lied to.

Ubisoft Suits heard too many 360/PS3 owners whine they want the game. These same people are the ones who didn't buy Origins but now that they dared make an exclusive version "wahhh wahha waah we want it"

The same whiners wont buy it again.

Origins wasn't successful it bombed. The whole idea of the Wii U exclusive was a launch title that could grab the launch audience. They missed the window and heard lots of whiners so hoping the whiners actually buy it this time

Publisher still gets a cut of whatever you spend making this a dirty situation. Best course of action would be no one buys Publisher gets burned and Dev goes out of business. Buying feeds developer but Publisher lives on to abuse that developer again and leech you out of your money in the future. One game won't kill Ubisoft but still.

This is just shitty

The only way I am buying this game is if Ubisoft releases the Wii U version within the next 30 days. Supporting a hardworking developer under those conditions is not really fixing the issue.

I really don't understand how this is such a terrible situation that we would put these innocent hard working developers out of a job just for the sake of flipping off Ubi. The situation sucks, but it makes sense that Ubi would want to have a simultaneous launch. That's just good business sense. So you have to wait a few more months for the game, it won't kill anyone. Besides, knowing how the corporate heads think, they would take the message as people saying they don't want niche games by small studios anymore.

I'll wait until it's used at Gamestop. The publishers don't need my money. Yes I feel the devs do but I can't reward the publishers' bad business practices.

In a perfect world, we'd all be homersexual
They would have made money. Almost every WiiU user would hae bought it.

Plus once it was released, they could announce the port to PS360. And no one would have complained
You can't say this with certainty. Who knows how it would have sold.

I don't get it. I mean, I understand why from a development perspective these guys have a right to be mad that they worked really hard to meet a deadline that suddenly doesn't exist after they already met it.

But from a gamer's perspective this is just a delay like many other delays. Plenty of games are delayed for marketing reasons. It's no reason to go full on rage mode. Are you guys really just pissed that it is no longer exclusive? That's a stupid thing to be pissed about. Be glad lots of people get to play it. Origins was great. I'm sure this will be too.
How many are delayed 3 weeks from release?

You're assuming that the little they'll make from the other ports will offsert 7 more months of development, advertising for multiple systems and the cost of porting

Once again, Ubisoft felt it was in their best interest to port it to other platforms.
