There's a countdown timer at Havok's site.

http://www.havok.com/nextgen
http://www.havok.com/physics
http://www.havok.com/unlock

Will it turn out to be

or

remains to be seen.

EDIT: Press release: http://www.havok.com/news-and-press/...xt-gen-physics

I hope.

Wait..hl2 didn't use Havok.

If it isn't GPU accelerated then it's dead in the water. It's been superseded by Physx in most games these days anyway.

Source utilises a heavily-modified version of Havok.

I'd be surprised if this isn't to be delivered via DirectCompute/OpenCL.

Looking forward to seeing an updated version of Havok. It's been gone long without an update.

Funny to have such a stilted image to represent next gen physics.

I still think Source has among the best physics in gaming. Maybe not in overall complexity and scope, but in motion and weight. Things fall and topple with a good sense of weight and mass in Source.

I'm really big on games pushing crazy physics stuff next gen, so fingers cross Havok bring the goods.

A lot of games still use Havok. Physx is proprietary bs anyway.

I'm positive it will be. They showed off a brief tech demo of GPU enhanced Havok at the PS4 unveil.

PhysX is a cross-platform middleware solution, not unlike Havok. The key difference is that it supports hardware acceleration and this requires an Nvidia GPU to function without an egregious performance hit.

I really liked what Havok was able to bring to TTT2. I will keep a eye on this. Seems like a great physics engine. PS4 and Havok seem like a good fit we have dat RAM.

Did Havok do a similarly timed (i.e. on the cusp of a new gen) demo/reveal last gen?

Are physics RAM intensive?

I hope they will focus on cloth physics too.

Not really The compute efficiency mods to the PS4's GPU are why it'll be a good match for nice physics, not the RAM.

What was the last AAA game to use unmodified Havok? It seems like everyone is just using Physx nowadays.

Does this mean 8GB of GDDR5 was a waste?

I'm surprised DmC is on there considering that it's an UE3 game. I thought Physx was free with UE3?

well watching that made me realize just how far we still need to go, Systems wont be doing that even by next next generation.

in case people are wondering.. HL2 actually does not run Havok.. but rather a physics company gave the tech to valve.. which was then bought out by havok. Little historical details.. but yeah...

Oh lord, is there any chance we will ever see a Trespasser 2 or some kind of spiritual successor? I loved that game, would die for a second one with rift/hydra support and some next gen visuals.
