Interesting. I will have to look into them next time I upgrade. I had written them off.

Input lag wise it's the best tv they've ever tested, with a lag of 8 ms with the high-speed camera-method and 20 ms with Leo Bodnar input lag tester. You can even use the impulse-motionflow setting with the game mode to get perfect motion resolution. This increases input lag to 30 ms, which is still lower than on most other higher-end hdtvs, but this introduces flicker that may be visible to some.

Tv's limited viewing angle might be a problem for some though, and I'd really love it if Sony finally add proper advanced calibration controls to its televisions.
Impulse doesn't get perfect motion resolution on this TV, I tried it over the weekend with my friend at my local Sony Centre as he is purchasing a new TV. All it does is add flicker (rather than motion interpolation) to trick your eyes in to not seeing the smearing/ghosting in fast 60fps motion. Problem is, it didn't work all that well, created substantial amounts of flicker and also made the screen dim. Not worth the trade-off at all.

Still, 8ms is incredible if you don't mind the motion blur traits of LCD technology. For me, my VT65 still completely and utterly creamed it in terms of motion quality - it's the perfect sweet spot between that and input lag. But my friend can't extend his budget or size to the VT65, he's only looking for a 40" TV. He'll be looking at the GT60 next.

My biggest issue with the W900 (W905 here) was the abysmal viewing angle and vertical banding.

You should. The current best (consumer grade) TV in the world is a plasma:

So I might bite on a P50ST30 for €499 the thing is, it's possible (still need to check it out) that it's the model the store has running on the floor. How much running time would be reasonable for it to still be worth it? I have no idea what kind of life Plasma has.
EDIT: nevermind, TV's gone...
