First Footage of The Last Remnant Tonight on Game Head on SpikeTV #1

Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up that the first-ever footage of Square-Enix's The Last Remnant will be on Game Head tonight on SpikeTV at 1AM. When we cut the package together we tried to squeeze in every second of the game that we could. Enjoy!

Nope, we're giving you everything we've got on this one. We're not even allowed to put this stuff online per Square-Enix's no video on the web policy. It's broadcast only. Get some popcorn, the game is insane.

I agree. Game Head usually has good content, but the way the content is delivered leaves much to be desired. It's designed for ADD kids on crack.

I don't know why S-E even bothers to do this in this internet youtube-age.

Youtube is slowly but surely becoming a joke. They were the innovators so I guess they deserve the verb treatment, but I wouldn't be surprised if anything from the show is removed fairly quickly due to "copyright infringement". I wanted to see a trailer for Disney's animated/live-action movie Enchanted but youtube had them all removed. WTF happened to fair use?

Why does everyone always ask for youtube.

Rip this sucker in decent resolution and rapidshare it. I'd like to see some details, people!

Just saw this for the first time in an issue of Game Informer I got for free for trading in games at EB. Looks decent. More interesting than Final Fantasy games if you ask me. Final Fantasy has become generic to me.

I support his definition of fair use. How do we elect him president of the fair use committee?

Soooo showing a movie trailer isn't fair use of a movie? Clips of video game gameplay isn't fair use?

I'm fairly sure fair use has nothing to do with Disney not wanting the Enchanted trailer out in public. The trailer presumably got leaked (it's not up on Disney's own website), Disney cracked down on it, hence why it's not out there on the Net (well, there's probably a Rapidshare/Megaupload/whatever link out there they haven't caught but probably not). That's got nothing to do with fair use of the footage; it's about a publicity campaign being screwed up a little and Disney taking steps to remove it.

Squenix and SpikeTV probably have an exclusive agreement for the footage to be shown exclusively on telly; getting the word out raises publicity for SpikeTV, and potentially gets more people interest in The Last Remnant. If the footage goes out all over the Net, why would anyone bother watching Game Head? Info getting leaked spoils their announcements and marketing. Again, it's publicity, not fair use; if the footage goes up without Squenix's permission, then they can pull it for unauthorised usage.

The two things you describe do not fall under "fair use," they fall under the heading of "taking something someone else owns and putting it on the Internet without their permission."

After I pointed this out, your response was to state your same incorrect argument again in an identical manner, taking us right back to where we started.

And the simple answer to the debate is that Square-Enix doesn't want video of this game online, and it holds the ownership of the video. As for why they wouldn't want to show the game off in HD instead of letting crappy user videos capped from a DVR circulate around really isn't my place, or anyone else's, to ask. It's just the way it is. When you're dealing with a company's IP, they make the rules. We just have to play by them.
