I've just sold my old 3DS plus games and I'm going download only on my 3DS XL.
I have Z:ALBW and FE:A, now I'm considering Pokemon X or Y.

I've never played a Pokemon game (except for an hour or two with the Gamecube Colloseum game), I'm not generally that OCD in games (except Pikmin 3 Fruit) amd I enjoy RPGs.

Is this a good place to start?
Will I like Pokemon?

Yes to the first question. Edit: Actually, each Pokemon is a good place to start, so why not try with the newest one.
Most likely on the second question, but that depends on what do you like in RPGs.

You'll love it and it's a great starting point. Get on it, and stop by the community thread whenever, specially after you've beaten the main campaign.

Sure.

Though unless you get into the more competitive aspect the RPG system is kind off a "my first JRPG" kind of deal, in that it is pretty easy. Has one of the most enjoyable multiplayer RPG gameplay though. Still, I think the atmosphere and fun of meeting new pokemon and training them is accessible to everyone who gives it a chance.

Its a great place to start but you might have a hard time going back and playing the older games without the awesome 3d models, particles animations and faster battles.

I played the first games to death, but didn't touch a mainline Pokemon game until X&Y. So for me it seemed like a great time to get back into the Pokemon games. Everything is much more streamlined than the first games, the graphics are great and it's a generally fun experience.

On the negative side I think there's too many different monsters now. 600-something. I miss the old days when I had a good overview of all the pokemon and most of the designs were great. But you probably wouldn't have that issue if you never played one of the earlier games...

Anyway, someone else is probably better suited to give you advice. =)

It's an excellent starting point. The games only get better with each iteration (for the most part), and in this particular one you get introduced to both old and new Pokémon.

I think you've convince me. thanks.
Just to choose X or Y, I'm leaning towards Y...

There is no wrong choice. Pick the side with your favorite Pokémon.

Yes, I'd say it's now the best place to start. The handheld RPGs are very traditional and Dragon Quest-like, so you'll probably like them if you're into that kind of game.

Absolutely best place to start. It even has the popular First Gen starters that everyone is nostalgic for.

You know I've heard some people who started with X & Y as their first game say that it doesn't explain itself very well. It is definitely a lot less hand holdy than previous entries in the series, which is great for veterans because we can get straight to the point without messing around with the basics. However, if you are new, it may take you some time to fully work stuff out on your own.

Yes. Just remember one thing: When you get the experience sharing item, that thing is basically your difficulty toggle. Keeping it on makes the game substantially easier than turning it of. Be sure to set it to whichever your difficulty preference is.

My boyfriend had never touched a Pokemon game before and neither did he play on a 3DS.

Last month he pulled the trigger and bought a 2DS + Pokemon Y. I had never seen him that addicted to a game before.

So yes, his case was succesful so I'm pretty confident you'll like it too! I personally also think it's the best game to get you introduced to the Pokemon RPGs.

Edit: I should also mention that it was his first RPG too. He normally doesn't like RPGs but he loves Pokemon now.

Y is the first Pokemon I have played since the very first and it's pretty beginner friendly. Great game too!
