It has the same kind of grand strategy and need to think ahead as FIFA but on a scale I can understand. It's filled with a whole bunch of moment to moment decisions that need to be made if you want to be successful. If you want to cut off that guy and get behind him from a 90 degree angle, you need to go around this side of the mountain. It would be a better idea to approach an ongoing dogfight from that side of the valley.
And if you don't think, you don't win. Flying straight into battle will get you nowhere. Also, if there was ever a game where Xbox's Snap would be acceptable, it's this one. I constantly go check out Reddit at the start of the game once I set my course. Double tap and check back every 30 seconds, make the adjustments I need, and then go back to the Internet Browser.
Btw, the Kittyhawk is worth it. It used to be a lower tier aircraft until they realized it was all people on the U.S. side used but that was mostly due to how broken the other flight models were. Supposedly 1.37 fixes a lot of the FM's but we've heard that for ages so it's hard to say until I try them out and it hasn't hit the PC version yet.Originally Posted by coolasj19
Yeah. I'm gonna love this more than most of my other games xD

If you really like the strategy involved, I suggest everyone at least give Realistic Battles a shot. It uses the full flight models, no aim indicator telling you where to shoot, no automatic reloading meaning people can't spray or else they have to land and rearm, historical battles with huge maps of real places with actual sides fighting each other, 1 life per match, more XP and lions, and of course less ramming since no one wants to lose their only plane unless it's the last enemy left or they're going down anyway (accidents do happen of course too). You still get enemy tags spotted and plenty of other things that don't turn it into a full sim (I play that mode too though) and replicates REAL strategies and dogfighting instead of just being one big chaotic furball. The Americans kick ass at Boom 'n' Zoom and HAVE to use that in certain planes if they want to win while other nations use their strategies to win. I end up playing all nations because of that with most of the nations right at the beginning of jets which I have no interest in anyway.
Realistic Battles made me quit arcade a year ago and I only do arcade if I'm helping a friend out because it usually just turns into a giant furball with a lot of ramming since the tactical players are a minority. I just like having planes perform as they should and feeling that knowing your enemy's plane is the most important thing to success more than anything else and Realistic Battles show that.
Just don't think it's a full sim mode since they renamed it. It used to be Historic Battles which made sense but I think some people didn't like that name because it implied it would use only the aircraft that were historically at that event which is saved for historical events under the events tab.
Anyway, the ground forces beta invites should be going out in the next few days since it was supposed to start by the 4th so I'm hoping my long-time account with most of the beta tasks completed means I'll be getting in because once again, War Thunder will be going for authenticity with the tanks instead of just making it like an arena shooter. Tigers will be able to hit people from a kilometer out and penetrate them if they aim wisely and there's no stupid healthpoints so it relies on real critical damage spots just like the planes. Strategy will trump whoever has the highest tiered tank with the most armor which is why I love War Thunder planes and will love tanks.
Strategy > Playtime.
Also, still not sure how to enter anything but arcade online matches, it states "press square to go into battle", but haven't noticed an option to choose the game mode.
I love it.
Any tips? My best plane seems to be some randome "Gift" plane.
No clue about the PS4 version but my PC version outputs at 7.1 surround. Sorry that's of no use though. :POriginally Posted by Little_Donkey
can someone check if the game has surround, because seem the sound is only coming out in stereo.
In other news, Gaijin has said they have two big announcements today with one of them being the first wave of ground forces beta invites (on PC at least but I'm sure they'll announce something for PS4) and who knows what else besides maybe an actual release date for the open beta of tanks?
Either way, I'm excited and their tank models are some of the most beautiful and complex models out there for a WWII game. The fact that they actually behave like tanks with real physics, treads and wheels that react individually to the surface, actual exhaust smoke that makes it look like a real vehicle, and explosions that are straight out of a WWII documentary. That's stuff I could notice just from the videos and screens so I can't wait to get my hands on it.
My luck, I won't get an invite though.
And regarding trophies, I don't think there's trophies because it's technically a beta.
DCUO has trophies. And, despite the amount of time I've put into the game (not a ton, but not insignificant), I haven't gotten a single one. IIRC, they sound like they do require quite the time commitment.Originally Posted by mullet2000
Honestly i like that the ftp games don't have trophies. I like not feeling compelled to get them in that "game environment", most lists would be all multiplayer trophies (because most ftp games are multiplayer), and a lot of the trophies would likely require either playing 500 hours or paying a lot of money to get anyway.
In the DCU the the trophies are behind the pay wall, so if you have a level 25 or 30 character you have probably fulfilled the requirements for a couple of them. Simply check the trophy list for more info.DCUO has trophies. And, despite the amount of time I've put into the game (not a ton, but not insignificant), I haven't gotten a single one. It really is a case of just clicking on everything and seeing what happens, then you'll get a grasp of the menus etc.So I added my EU account to my PS4 and grabbed this tonight. Holy shit why is something I am so so so so amazingly horrible at, and something that I just completely do not understand (research, which planes, what am I doing?) so so fun!?
I love it.

Regarding the game itself, it really is pick up and play, all I did was adjust the controls to inverty the axis(?), so you pull the stick back to go up etc., and chose auto aim.
Even after a few days, it is noticeable how the standard of play is improving as people get to grips with the planes and tactics.
I'm spending a few weeks on this, hoping Battlefield 4 is sorted in the meantime.
None that I have seen sadly. I am not entirely sure what it will even mean for me having downloaded the EU release to play on my NA main. That aside, I really am enjoying this immensely.Originally Posted by FullMetaltech

I found a few videos (linked here or perhaps the other thread, we really do need an OT don't we...) that have opened my eyes a lot to a decent progression plan for the US planes at least.
I also jumped into multiplayer immediately so didn't realize that you could gain XP and lions (think that is what they are referred to as?) from those missions. Even if you haven't unlocked many yourself, you can play with others on Missions they have that you don't. Some of them look pretty fun too. The game is pretty, uh, pretty!
Took me a solid 35 minutes to realize that the touchpad on the DS4 controlled the "mouse" cursor >.>
