Look Time, you guys dabble in video games from time to time (heh!), but you gotta stop. It's beginning to look like those local newspapers making reviews about shit they haven't even played yet, or worse, had no idea what made it good and what made it bad.
I mean, a list made for casual readers/gamers is absolutely silly and demeans the point. But here we go!
10. Skylanders: SwapForce - My kid likes it, so I guess everyone else does.
9. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon - I think I heard there are some retro themes with this? Yeah that seems good.
8. Bioshock: Infinte - Yeah I think this one has interracial couples. Throw this one in.
7. Pikmin 3 - Gotta pick a Nintendo game or two. Let's see...
6. The Last of Us - Oh yeah, I saw a commercial for this Walking Dead game. Pretty cool how it ties into the show.
5. Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Random game button landed on this one.
4. Gone Home - This is the one with two girls that love each other? That'll gain some hits.
3. Pokemon X & Y - Pokemon is an easy name to remember. Throw it on.
2. Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag - This is the fishing game right?
1. GTA V - We put advertisements up for them so we have to.
Note: I'm not talking about the quality, just Time's man-on-deadline-has-to-scrape-up-a-story.
swapforce is actually a good game, to me its as great as any ratchet and clank for example (played on hard of course, all the games are way too easy on normal) though its expensiveOriginally Posted by Orthogonal
Skylanders is one of those games that if you play with small children, its like a 9/10, but if you play the game by yourself it's garbage and people look at you funny.
its a way way better game than the prior skylanders, which could be fun but were really about the figures and it was clearly designed for the 6-12 year olds
3d world doesn't even make it into their top 10 wtf time?
Swapforce is being delivered by Santa this year, but my 6 year old is hot with excitement. I hope your right, looking forward to it.Originally Posted by cleveridea

If they had good games then they deserve to be on the list. My point is that 3d world is the wii u's biggest hit this year so why isn't it on the list when 3d world was one of the reasons they arrived at that decision. Also aciv over the last of us? Gone home and blood dragon?Originally Posted by CaptainGyro
Yeah I know look at all those ps4 and xbone games that made it instead
to be honest, i beat TLoU twice and can say that while it's amazing, AC4 is a better game. TLoU is incredibly repetitive game with same encounters over and over and mediocre stealth mechanics. It's very fun, but not without a fault. Sure, the story and atmosphere are gripping and awesome, but AC4 offers much more than one type of gameplay while keeping story no less amazing.Originally Posted by flamingotripod
Assassins Creed 4 beats The last of us.
Did they even play the games at all?
what in the fuck
Because they wrote the article without playing it and even if they did play it before they made this list and think it's a great game it still doesn't mean it automatically belongs on the top 10 list There are a lot of ( more than 10) great games that came out this yearOriginally Posted by blankempathy

And I don't know where the anger comes from; there'll be a dozen of GOTY lists with TLoU at number one or, relax kids :lol
What a shit fucking listOriginally Posted by The Technomancer

- Metal Gear Rising - 82

- Battlefield 4 - 80
- Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon - 80

I'm not making a definitive quality judgement here. I'm just wondering why people are surprised it is showing up on a top ten list.
I can understand not liking it yourself, but saying it's a bad game is just damn hilarious.
This is one of the worst top 10 lists I've seen to my taste, but there's nothing wrong with it. Suck it up.
I would say that AC4 has barely there "mechanics" for the entire game, it's quite possibly the most muted and empty gameplay experience you can possibly get out of a modern game. Most people will master the mechanics within the first 10 minutes.Originally Posted by kazebyaka

The game never presents any sort of challenge or underlying depth ever. I killed 150 guys in the first action segment with my bare hands, it's a complete joke mechanically. AC has always had a feeling of "babies first video game" that never gets out of the teething stage. Every single segment is built and directed in such a way that nothing could go wrong unless you absolutely tried your best to fail.
TLou did a much better job in comparison to any tps i have played in a while. It excelled in balancing the transition between action and stealth far better then even splinter cell has been able to do this gen let alone AC in its 5 game span.
Look at the contributions in this thread. Does anyone really think that just posting "man THAT game in THAT position ranked by THAT magazine? BAAAAARF" is contributing anything to... well, anything?
Lists like this are intended to spur conversation and discussion. That will generally involve disagreement with the specific contents of the list, and an argument for why specific elements should be considered differently, but it involves just that: an argument. In our annual GOTY voting thread, we strongly encourage people to talk about their individual selections and why they ranked them the way they did for exactly this reason. If the response to threads like this was to engage in a similar discussion of the relative qualities of the games listed, it'd be one thing... but if the response is just undirected, uncontextualized anger, there's no reason for these threads to exist.
