Let me guess you guys don't have EU PS3's. It boots up to the icon so you see the ad. Press one button like down/side and its gone.

How about get off of my XMB.

I don't think you understand how icons work on PS3. As far as I know, you go over an icon and stay on it it shows you an add or something about it. For instance staying over a game icon results in the games art being shown as the background. Going over bbc iplayer results in a black background and the iplayer logo.

It highlights this ad by default. I can't believe people trying to justify such practices, it's unacceptable since you don't get this crappy deal in US. And the way Sony handled it was old style super arrogant Sony. Insert disc, opt in for "What's new". How about they give a fucking option to hide it.

It is not an ad so please stop calling it such. It is and App that you can download. You don't have to and when you go to the media TV services section, it's not even the first one so what is this issue? If your not watching redbox then how is this arrogant? Actually, do you even know what arrogant means? How the hell does placing a app in the section it belongs so people know what is available on the PS3 somehow arrogant? W.... T..... F?

It's not an app, when you click on it it starts downloading so it's an advertising. Also you seems to confuse threads and me with OP of this thread. My complaint was about SingStar.

I don't see it as an ad seeing as its in a specific section you pass through . If anything, it's making people aware that redbox is a new app for the PS3 just like how the Netflix app did when you hover on it. Wasn't that the point of making the media TV section in the first place? So it didn't pop up unnecessarily in the game section

An icon I didn't ask for and can't remove for a commercial product or service is an ad. Now when you stop over the ad then you get a full screen ad but it doesn't make the icon any less of an ad.

I got rid of my 360 because of the ads and I won't be buying a One because I expect similar behavior. If Sony is going in the same direction, is it really so strange for people to not want a PS4 for this reason?

People do go out of their way to avoid ads, paying extra on some sites, not paying for cable TV and not watching network TV and so on.

Raising awareness of a commercial product or service is an ad.

Bumping this thread because I just noticed the Redbox ad/icon thing disappeared for me. I'm certain it was there yesterday and now it's gone. Probably removed with the new PS3 update (4.53) unless it just expired for everyone.

Thanks for the heads up. I hope it gets rid of the Amazon icon as well.
