So he can grind souls without fighting anything? That's not what he needs. Nobody needs that place unless they want an early +5 ascended pyro flame or that kind of crap. You get enough souls just from bosses to keep you at a decent level. Anyway, it doesn't give you 20k.

No master key. I guess you can still go that way but it's trickier.

It's 10,000.

As for strategies - you can go human, summon Beatrice and let her do it for you :p

The butterflies attacks are pretty easy to handle, the two main ones spears and slow magic blobs(?!) - easy street is block the spears and roll dodge the slow blobs. If it does the beam, it's pretty easy to roll through, you roll the direction it came from, so if it's travelling left to right, roll left as it continues to travel right. If it does any AoE blasts, the build up is long and you just get the fuck out of there.

Either way, Beatrice is your gal if you don't have any long range magic/weapons.

Just finished watching all the videos and enjoyed them a lot!
And it's nice to see that you indeed got a bit better at the game :)

But I would recommend to take more care about the souls you collect. You lost so many during your playthough so far which you could have invested in leveling up. I think this makes the game more difficult for you than necessary. More vitality so enemies don't kill you with 1-2 hits or more endurance so you can wear heavier armour/have more stamina to block/attack can help.
And since you are in the area, after the 3 "ents" in the bigger part of the forest to the right is the elite knight set (I hope I didn't miss in case you already picked it up. Just saw you running several times past it without going the steps further to pick it up). For your playstyle this is a good armour set. You probably need more endurance to wear it without being slowed down though. Especially since you fight only in melee range I would wear something with a bit more defence.
And with the ents, the attack where they grab you and do a lot of damage: You can see that they try this attack when they raise both arms straight up. When they do this just jump back, it has a very short range. In general it's easier when you understand the attack pattern of the enemies to react accordingly, to know when to block/dodge and when it's safe to attack.
As much as I like seeing you in new areas and fighting bosses I would give improving your character and getting more comfortable with the enemies the priority. I'm sure this will be enjoyable to watch as well :)

Been watching the streams since episode 2 (twitch name Namco51).

I would strongly recommend upgrading and using the Halbred. Its standard RB attack is a straight poke with great range and does very high damage. You can stand a little farther back, is quicker than the Claymore's attack, often staggers an opponent, and can be used in narrow quarters (through walls and around doorways even!). I easily take out the ents in two hits from really far back with the thing before they can get close enough to strike--it's easily become my favorite weapon in the game.

It may require a little more stamina management though, but you can easily get 3 heavy jabs in before you run out, but by then enemy is dead or stunned long enough for you to back away and recharge some stamina or block.

That one butterfly fight... I don't think I ever dodged the projectiles as consistently as Jeff did there :p Impressive. Should've won that fight, so close. Next run Butterfree's toast.

For the next couple of level ups you should put some points in VIT, your health is pretty low. I also noticed you completely stopped using sprint, or maybe it's intentional. Hold B for fast.

Holding B also lets you descend ladders quickly, just fyi as there are some long ladders in the game

Jeff it's fine to run past enemies when you're making attempts to fight a boss, but you should still learn to fight those enemies as well. Start with the Stone Giant at the beginning of that open area, right past the three Ents. Don't sneak around until you wake one up by mistake. Before you start the fight have a look around you, make sure you recognise the area where it's safe to fight without aggroing other enemies. Take note of where the path back up to the bonfire is. If you get in trouble you can always stop locking on and sprint back. Reaching the bonfire will reset the enemies and you'll be safe. Don't back away while still locked on unless you know it's safe behind you, this got you in trouble so many times in the last stream.

I hope he isn't joking about an episode where he mostly goes through his items and tries to make a build to take on this boss. I would love that so much.

Magic resist and below 50% weight! That's what you need to be fast rolling and taking low damage from this boss!

Just watched the latest stream catch-up on youtube. Jeff you were really unlucky with Moonlight Butterfly, one time it seemed to get stuck in an AI loop - I have never seen it do so many AoE blasts in a row, the one where it switches side, it's not unusual to never even see it do that move you got it like half a dozen times in a row, bad luck.

Your roll dodging has really improved, I think you can easily nail the butterfly next time!

Ugh, another person tweeting Jeff to use ranged. So unnecessary to learn how to manage ranged for this fight, of all fights.

Not that ranged builds are bad, far from it, it's just not really needed here. Learning the intricacies of melee is more important.

I'm watching part 9 now, why is no one telling him not to go to the bloody forest? You don't need to do the MB boss at that time, or ever, really. Not that he's terribly out of his league, it's just the wrong direction in general :S

I think most people do the Moonlight Butterfly before going to Lower Undeadburg. It's certainly easier and gives you more practice and prepares you for Lower Undeadburg/Depths.

I did try telling Jeff to go to Lower Undead Burg after defeating the gargoyles.

Before he does that, I really think we need to get him to use his White Stone Soapstone and co-op the Gargoyles, get some souls, and level up his Vitality and Endurance.

Eh, why would they?

Just because something isn't critical path doesn't mean he shouldn't do it. In fact I'd say the opposite.

I actually did the butterfly before I even did the Gargoyles on my first playthrough. It's totally normal to do the butterfly when he is.

If we can just get him to pay attention to his darn souls and go level up when he has enough he'd gain levels fast enough in little time.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure most people do the Butterfly before progressing onward.

Also the Elite Armor set (which is right there before the Butterfly) and the Wolf Ring, which is down the path with those red bug guys, would REALLY help him in lower Undeadburg and the Depths.

well if he was on PS3 I would suggest that, but on PC he will likely be waiting forever to co-op.
