Well not a dealbreaker, its still looked better than AT3 waifus
I didn't mind the characters at all, and I enjoyed Finnel for the most part.I fell like I am the only person that liked AT3/Qoga. :|
It mainly boils down to that combat system that really left a bad taste. It really was a rough early attempt at a 3-D type fighting system, and it really shows. Really though, with all the remakes and other such things that've been going on lately. That one could really use a touch-up. But I understand why it won't ever get one, and that's pretty much fine with me.
Still, looking forward to seeing more from this.
Stripping for more power was the best. It was a little awkward to explain to the girlfriend when I brought it home, bur it was nonetheless hilariousHopefully it'll be better than Qoga. Qoga was ok, but between the characters not clicking with me, and the stripping for more power, it didn't make for the best of experiences...
If anything is awesome about Qoga versus the rest, it does have the best tower administrator. Tyria FTW. Agepan, Maaya Sakamoto, KOKIA
Personally hated Sakamoto and don't particularly like Kokia. Her music is too "mainstream" sounding and doesn't really fit with the rest of the groundwork that everyone had laid leading into AT3. The others were a bit too esoteric. If anything is awesome about Qoga versus the rest, it does have the best tower administrator. Tyria FTW. Agepan, Maaya Sakamoto, KOKIA
Yes! Tyria is great. I wasn't too hot on the other girls but Tyria made it up for me.Qoga was certainly the weak link in the series. But even for the battle system and purging, the characters/writing/music still carried it proper like any other Ar Tonelico title. I sort of agree on the girls too, but that really is a subjective preference kinda thing. IE not so into a masochist etc.

Preferences! That said though yeah, it was really a bit too much how they had all these different artists for the songs. I'm glad the utahime trio are back in form here though and some.Originally Posted by rykomatsu

I like KOKIA, that said her song for AT3 isn't particularly memorable. AT1 remain the best in that department,
Its so beautiful! Even if its a typical love song. The context makes it more so impactful though.
It looks like 2 man parties actually. 1 guardian 1 song maiden. It definitely looks like a Hybrid of 2s but with battles in succession? Although, could be really early and it might be just like AT2's 2 guardian/2 maidens. At least it's not the realtime failure that was AT3'sOriginally Posted by Trulyworth
I'm really glad they seem to be going back to the AT2 style. As much as I liked ATQ, I feel the combat was a bit of a misstep. I'm really hopeful this comes over to the US. I wonder what the party make-up will be? 3 Guardians/1 Reyvateil of 2 Guardians/2 Reyvateil?

Just finished up AT1 with Misha and onwards to my 2nd AT2 playthru . . . I forgot how awesome AT2's battle system was. I'm also amazed at the amount of voice that was removed domestically. . . I cannot wait to see how the major scenes later on play out Luca's true colors. Although this was meant to be a Cloche playthru since I did Luca first time around, all this voice makes me want to experience it with Luca again. (She really still is the best of the girls IMO)Originally Posted by RurouniZel

Luca truly is the best. I hope the girls this time aren't as fractured as AT3s. It felt like with just two girls (Aurica/Misha, Cloche/Luca), there was far more depth to the characters versus Finnel and Saki's mess of personalities. It looks like 2 man parties actually. 1 guardian 1 song maiden. I know the video is a horrible blurry mess at 240p, but does it look like they're using the same engine as in the newer Atelier games?
As mentioned in the OT . . .
Also website update! Time to see more of the ladies and some :DThe world of Ar no Surge will revolve around magic and the power of thoughts. Flight Unit, the studio that has worked on several of Gust’s graphics and animation will create high quality models for the game. Their work will emphasize lighting and shading of the game’s sci-fi fantasy setting, with extra detail on metallic textures.
And new 4gamer article with the stuff from the scans/website

Hrm not the most accurate translation, but it's something. Pretty sure it's not harvesting that occurs. . .World View
Quantav – A city governed by the archbishop of the Genomirai Order, a religious group that worships the mysterious life form Shal. Shal coexist with humans in a town built inside giant jet engines thought to be abandoned. The town has a steam-punk appearance, with things like rattling shafts, rotating turbines, and compressors. The neglected lower area has natural vegetation growing mixed in, creating a peculiar townscape.
Genomirai Order – A religious group that worships the mysterious life form Shal. It is said that entering into the Order will keep the Shal from attacking you. Right now many people professing this have gathered in Quantav, making it the base of the Order. Followers are required to constantly be improving their souls, regardless of day or night, they work hard disciplining their hearts and minds. Sometimes the archbishop will give followers a trial, but it’s said that each time there are not a few number of people who insidiously disappear from town.
Game Introduction
A world not yet experienced where you play the new musical movement Surge Concerto! – It stars the young man Delta and the mechanical weapon Arshes, along with several partners including Casti and Ion. A story of love and bonds around the planet that they revolve on. The full details on the new musical movement Serge Concerto will be revealed little by little.
A story revolving around two points of view – The story progresses in “zapping scenarios” that switch between parties Delta and Casti, and Arshes and Ion. By experiencing the story from two different points of view, various truths of the world are revealed.
Strong thoughts and strong bonds become the shield that protects her – The main character wields a weapon empowered by “song magic,” the magical incarnation of the heroine’s thoughts, providing a variety of skills used to take down enemies. If the song magic singing heroine takes a lot of damage, the main characters must shield them as much as possible, fighting while protecting the heroine.
Fifteen grand and magnificent songs rock the world! – Many mysterious yet grand melodies with impressive orchestrations and multiple choruses enliven the story to the utmost. Five princesses of song make up the group that brighten this title with their voices, including Akiko Shikata renown in the Tsuchiya Akira Project, the debut of Haruka Shimotsuki, and the highly anticipated new style of Yoshino Nanjo.
The Bond Strengthening Ritual “Purification Ceremony”
Purification Ceremony Outfit – In the sacred purification ritual, it’s necessary to appear wearing the outfit made for this purpose. Wearing this outfit makes it easier to harvest crystals.
Harvesting Crystals – Crystals are harvested through five parts of the body: head, arms, legs, chest, and abdomen. These are the parts of the body that conversations pile up, and also the spots where mutual relationships are deepened and the parts where contact is first made.
Talk Matter and Conversations – As the game progresses, you obtain conversation seeds called “Talk Matter.” At the purification ceremony point, conversations occur based on each Talk Matter, deepening the relation between characters.
Talk Matter Level – Even if you obtain higher level Talk Matter, you can’t use them if your relationship isn’t deep enough. You can level it up by using lower level Talk Matter enough times. When you level up Talk Matter you have a deeper understanding of your comrades.
Song Magic
Bridal Launch - Features a romantic figure wearing a bridal costume. By some method concocted by what seems to be unimaginable happiness, the enemies are kicked about.
Heart of Light - Song magic with parts like a vacuum tube. It has a lost technology-like ambiance. There is something like sharp fingernails, an aggressiveness lurking behind the prettiness.
Characters
Saari (CV: Yumi Shimura) – A specialist mechanic of the elite organization Plasma protecting Felion, her real name is Saari Plank. Since childhood, she possessed the exceptional ability to hold information, and once she reached the age of discretion, worked as a top-ranked hacker. Even after becoming part of Plasma, she exhibited outstanding skills in weapon science and simple medicine creation, as well as software programming. Though she is young, she alone bears the technical side of the organization. She is currently working on a top secret mission in Quantav.
Prim (CV: Sayuri Hara) – With the human vocal chords required to make song magic, she is a “human model” possessing the Genome’s ability to invoke song magic. She is the only “human model” with this ability. It is especially rare because the Genome are an extinct species. She is an existence that is rarely able to be seen.
Jel (CV: Meiko Kawasaki) – Jelilium Limonite. She is a young woman working for the archbishop of the Genomirai Order in the decommissioned city Quantav. An advocate of coexistence between Shal and humans, when believers are gathered in thanks, their place of discipline and trial is bestowed. She believes that a peaceful world can be created under the Shal who have a greater existence than humans, having a great influence over the ideals of the Genomirai Order.
Tentouki (CV: ???) – The empress in command of Felion, the town where people gather. She always has heavy, thick linkage attached to her body, and she never shows that form to her people. Tentouki is thought to be female since she has the title “Heaven Governing Princess”, but knowledge of her gender and age is limited strictly to the humans in Plasma.

Fun fact breakdown from A Reyvateil's Melody's forums http://w11.zetaboards.com/Revatail_H...pic/9163916/8/It wouldn’t be Sunday without some more information and lovely screenshots directly from Gust about the upcoming PS3 exclusive JRPG Ar Nosurge, that will hit the Japanese shelves on January the 30th.
We get the first glimpse of Sharanoia, a beautiful land with green grass and pastures, even if lately there have been mysterious disappearances and the animals have started to behave weirdly. At the center of Sharanoia there’s the city of Tenryo Sara, featuring a stunning layered high-rise structure.
We also learn more about the Geno Metrics system, that allows the protagonists (Delta, the heroines and the Ashes) to “dive” into the spirit world of many characters to solve their problems. Each character’s spirit will be displayed like a stylized map that will have to be explored little by little, with the effect of deepening the ties with said character.
With the last press release we learned about the purification ceremony, and today we see more of the rather sexy swimsuits that our heroines will wear while performing their ablutions. The creatures that can be summoned by the Song Magic of some of the heroines are also displayed in the gallery below.
Finally, we meet two new characters: Kanon, whose real name is Kanoiru Kukururu Prisher,
Syaranoia (must be related to Shelanoir) - a world covered in lush green, plants and animals thrive, however, it is incredibly unstable, continents are often formed anew and disappear suddenly every now and then.
Tenryousyara - a town in Syaranoia, filled with skyscrapers.
ORIGA - Russian singer, doing Kanon's role. Her lyrics may feature Keihan mixed with Russian.
Ion's Misogi costume prpr
Genometrics is done in BIOS shops, requires Dive Points, looks virtually the same as Cosmosphere.
Diving alters Geno Map, which displays the Vanguard and Heroines' relationships, as well as sadistic/masochistic inclination.
Delta travels with Cass and Sally.
Kanon's boobs.
Tattolia - a Sharl boy living in a village named Honokano, near the village are some ruins named Kurt Hymmel.
I love all the AT games, Qoga might not have been as mind explodingly awesome as 2, but I think some of the 'themes of the spheres (particularly finnels) helped me understand people I didn't understand before, or at least see a perspective I hadn't considered.I fell like I am the only person that liked AT3/Qoga. :|
Make no mistake anyone who reads this, the Ar Tonelico games are easily the most complex and fascinating JRPGS and have been since the PS2 era if you're willing to look.
Soundtrack is out of this world as well. I say without question it's better then Persona's (and that's not something I say lightly)
Now just introduce some more dudes please.
This is true, during my Cloche playthru in AT2 currently, it really is fascinating at all the diferent layers you see into a person's personality. When folks say you only really see 5% of a person IRL and 95% is hidden away, they're not kidding. Although, I still think Luca was a lot more interesting. Because she really was twisted beyond.I love all the AT games, Qoga might not have been as mind explodingly awesome as 2, but I think some of the 'themes of the spheres (particularly finnels) helped me understand people I didn't understand before, or at least see a perspective I hadn't considered.

And anyone didn't notice. ORIGA! Cmon now! LOL. I do get the feeling she'll be this game's KOKIA or something. I mean ORIGA is huge.
Dear Koei, I would love you even more if you brought this out to the West.
No you are not, I LOVE THAT GAME. I must have beaten it like 4 times to get the Saki Good Ending, Saki Normal Ending, Finnel Good Ending, and the Bad ending.I fell like I am the only person that liked AT3/Qoga. :|
Have a strong feeling ill be disappointed D:
Utahime trio (Shikata, Shimotsuki, Mitose) plus folks like ORIGA. You bet it'll be godly. Check out the Genometric concert CDs from Ciel nosurge.Originally Posted by Hcoregamer00

Oooooh. I can already tell she is going to be the best girl.
I hope this is a return to the quality of Ar Tonelico 2. AT3 was alright but the story was all over the place and felt rushed. Neither Finnel or that other chick could match Misha or Luca either. Battle system was pretty bad too.
Looking forward to the soundtrack!
For the last couple of weeks, I've been reading the the translations for the super awesome Toukousphere (http://artonelico.isisview.org/wiki/...n/Toukousphere) and to my surprise, it seems like Japan liked AT3 a lot :shrug:I fell like I am the only person that liked AT3/Qoga. :|
That said, if anyone here is a huge AT fan, I heavily recommend reading these Toukousphere. It's a chance to see the characters outside of the games in a different and hilarious light as they answer Q/A from fans .(Who knew Aurica was so dark . . .) But there's also lots of world building involved and hymnos lessons!
Excerpt from the latest one I'm reading right now:
It's really a testament to just how massive the world of Ar Ciel was and how much of a project of passion this was for Akira Tsuchiya. . . Really sad that they had to shut it down and everything Ar Tonelico though.Fan: Ar Tonelico 2 ~ The Girls' Metafalica that Echoes Throughout the World made it into the 30 games with wonderful endings!
Congratulations.
Reisha: Oh, how wonderful. We didn't know anything about that. I'm so happy.
I see there was value to that ending where you get carried away by my advances.
Croix: Well, it's true that was an ending, but I think they're talking about endings to the game itself, right?
Besides, I think that was something of a bad ending.
Luca: If someone actually went for that ending, I think we're all in trouble.
Besides, there are no winners in that ending ... ...
Reisha: Oh, that's not true at all.
I'm sure Butz, or someone who's always loved me like Legris would love that ending.
Legris: I'm sure that would have been true a long time ago, but now that I've gotten married myself and had a daughter ...
Butz: Why do I have to play a game where I have to get my own wife?
Cloche: ... ... it looks like nobody wants to go for that ending.
Reisha: ... ... I suppose I should take a lesson from Luca and ask everyone to love me now?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fan: An angel fighting some bad guy up in heaven had one of his wings clipped and fell down to earth, and is going to get his revenge on evil with a huge sword ... that's kind of like Lyner, if you think about it.
Just like how he fell from Platina at the beginning of the story.
Aoto: Hey, you've got a point ... ... Lyner, are you an angel!?
I bet you turn into an Odd Eye when your emotions get out of whack, and these shining wings pop out of your back if your anger tops out, and ...
Jacqli: Stop it, it's too dangerous to say any more!!
Lyner: I-it looks like you're expecting something really out there, but I can't do anything like that.
My parents weren't angels or gods or anything, so I can't change my eye color or grow wings or anything, okay?
Shurelia: That's right.
Lyner's bride is a cute girl who's a goddess that administers a Tower, though.
Shun: Are you talking about Frelia!?
Frelia: What? What?
When did I become Lyner's bride?
Lyner: Uhhh, no, I'm still single ... ...
Besides, there's no way I could marry Frelia, since we never met in the games.
Shun: I see ... ... well, then, that's all right.
But, a cute girl who's a goddess that administers a Tower ... ... who could that be except Frelia?
Tyria: I think you're forgetting a certain glamorous Tower-administering goddess with an 87cm bust.
Cocona: It may be 87cm officially, but it doesn't look that way at all, so I think calling it "glamorous" is a little ...
New girl looks cool, shota not so much
i love everything ,so far about this game.
The fact that i 100% AT1, AT2 and platiniumed ATQ doesn't help.
ps: ATQ is not a bad game.. it's ok , it's just dispointing after AT2...not a bad game, still fun at least, except tyria cosmosphere.
