Thanks, how long before the workout are we talking?
Beta alanine kicks in fast for me, usually within 15-20 minutes. If you've never taken it, you might want to start with 2 grams before jumping up to Jack's level lol

Yeah. I take 2.5g early on in the day and 2.5g before a workout (I'm only little though). 5g in one go would have me scratching off my own skin.

Is there an advantage to taking it when not working out? Or maybe I should ask if there is a benefit to taking "x" amount per day?

I feel like we went over this. Where's my coffee...

EDIT:

From Examine:
"Beta-alanine is the building block of carnosine, a molecule that helps buffer acid in muscles, increasing physical performance in the 60–240-second range. Beta-alanine can aid lean-mass gain. Carnosine appears to be an antioxidant and anti-aging compound."

So is this just for lifting/sprints or would this help with longer cardio sessions?

The research i did suggested it has little to no effect for cardio work

Any time. It's saturation. The only thing acute about BA is paresthesia. As long as you take it every day you are fine. Timing doesn't matter but most take it before a workout with everything else because mixing 1 drink is easier than several a day.

Expect 8 or so weeks to become fully saturated. Effects are not day 1.

Pfffft. 4g is nothing. 6g is when I start feeling it :D

Helps with overall endurance for low output training.

There are few things as rewarding (workout-wise) as being done with your entire workout before the day has truly begun.

Does anyone know of a good DVD or YouTube video for a full core strengthening routine? I have a bad back injury and my specialist told me working on my core may help but I've never been much into fitness.

Couple changes im making leading into the last months and a half of this cut.

Carb cycling. I'll eat 200g on on days, 100 on off. Protein stays the same and I'll adjust fat depending on the day.

Accessory work I'm going lighter with 1 second pauses on each rep

Buying my home was so freakin stressful and the sellers wouldn't budge on anything even though the house had been on the market forever. Had to buy a new furnace, new AC, carpet, etc. $$$$$$$

We got outbid on the house we really wanted and didn't know what we were going to do since we didn't find any place that was half as good. A few weeks later we got a call that the buyers backed out and we wound up getting it anyway. It's so rare that I find anyone that didn't go through some craziness when they bought.

True. My brother and his wife were buying a house, had already sold theirs and the day of contract signing the previous owners completely vandalized the house by tearing into walls, breaking Windows, spray painted obscenities on the brick fireplace, etc. All because the roof needed some repairs and by bro talked down the price of repair.

A neighbor thought someone was breaking in when they heard a window break and called the cops. Turns out it was the homeowner. Backed out immediately. Had to go live with my dad for months until they built a new place. Instant karma though. Now the house was unsellable and the sellers had already signed on a new house.

Selling my treadmill is going to be a pain in the ass isn't it?

I sold my elliptical when I moved. It was downstairs in the basement and I had to take off the railing to get it out of there. Heavy as hell.

My advice, tell whoever wants it that they have to bring enough muscle to get it out of there. Makes it a lot easier.

Well, things may be shit on the whole, but at least my consistency with my training is back:

(That's just my weights stuff, every other day is cycling)

Last shoulder day of bulk. I like doing these for trap thickness vs shrugs. A lateral raise variant where instead of rotating with my delts i focus on pulling and squeezing with the traps. This was my final set and my right shoulder was about to fail due to pain so I do wince a bit at the top of each swing:

And this is how they look:

I think i've done shrugs maybe 6 times in the past year. I have an aversion I can't shake where shrugging a bar in front of me or behind me just doesn't feel right. Which is why I'm trying to build a shrug bar :|

I'm close and I refuse to buy parts! Will take some more scavenging but I'll get to it XD

Edit: relaxed from behind:

Ha, yeah. I do about fifty minutes of mobility work and warmup, then about an hour and forty minutes of weights (including breaks between sets etc).

Good on your bruh bruh. I've reduced my time in the gym, because I've learned that after and hour and fifteen minutes my mind begins to drift and I lose focus. So, when people ask "How long are you the gym", I reply "An hour and out".

Me too. The thought of 3 hours...man....

The past year I've worked on reducing my overall gym time. I used to workout for around 2 hours a day, but have since dropped that down to 45 minutes to an hour. Of course I'm there longer if I do cardio, but I try to schedule cardio as its own thing these days and not after weight lifting.

Two major compounds per day, so bench and squat for instance, or OHP and deadlift. Combination varies. Rest periods are three minutes on final work sets, just the time it takes to change the weights on the others (this is only really meaningful for 5/3/1 stuff).

Usually three or four accessories. One of which I'll do heavy at low reps, others generally in a sort of progression like...

15 x 20kg
12 x 22kg
8 x 24kg

then a dropset of 8 x 20kg or something. Sometimes I'll do forced sets and the like. Depends how I'm feeling or if I'm making progress as to if I switch it up or not.

These days if I have some energy when I get to the end I might finish up with a bit of ab wheel or a bunch of curls as I take the dumbells back to the rack.

I reduced my gym because I took Guile's advice to go home and be a family man.

I used to spend up to 2 hours a day and up to 6 days a week at the gym. Now, I'm at the gym for an hour at most. About 20 mins of that time is spent on warmups and cardio.

I just want to finish the workout and go home to my little guy, who's going to be 2 next week.

I wish I had a 2 year old running around. Enjoy it. Two through 5 is the best.

That's awesome. That's the way to do it. I run as early as I possibly can and Sunday mornings so that I'm back home on time to make the kids a serious breakfast. They really look forward to it and I wouldn't miss it for the world.

No kids, and my missus gets home after I've finished working out most days
(probably banging someone more buff than me).

I always think of you guys (and Brolic) when I hear the dumb fucking comment "just wait until you have kids!"

And I've heard that twice this week

Today I decided to join fitness gaf! Last year I stopped smoking and last month I began doing some cardio and lost around 15 pounds. I'm 5'5 215lbs I'm trying to slim down to about 160. So stoked! My schedule varies but I do lots of hiking before work. I do about 1 to 1 1/2 hours (45 minutes of that is straight uphill) would you say that is a decent substitute for running? I hate it (for now)

Most of the people I know that use that excuse were in shit shape before they had kids anyway.
This. It's funny because although I have more time constraints, they are part of my motivation. The bonus is that they think it's awesome, following in my footsteps in a lot of ways by getting into sports. My 7 year old daughter is playing on a soccer team, runs kids dashes, takes rock climbing classes... It blows me away. I'm actually not sure who is setting the example for who anymore.

I'm there with you Psycho, my gym time is about 3 hours long too. 30-40 minutes warm-up and mobility work and then 2H15M to 2H30M lifting.

Most days are:
OHS to test shoulders, snatch if shoulders are good.
Pulls
Back squats
Press variation
An accessory movement for that day
Abs and back

Weightlifting programs..

Glad I'm not the only broken one. :D

Welcome... and anything that gets your heart rate up a decent amount is good, until it doesn't, at which point you need to step it up.
