I'm not a full paid up Grey Wolf, never used patreon. How do you actually go about downloading the premium episodes? Straight from patreon straight onto your phone?

Great podcast. I just started listening the last few months and my favorite has to be the first healthcare focused podcast they did. Really informative. Also Felix is hilarious.

Aw man david cross is a good get. listening asap
yeah I felt they were slipping a little the last few weeks but they've been super fucking strong this week

They haven't all been hits but the Harvard's worst bracket, the new tim faust ep, and the China Mieville interview were all great.

that's true, yeah, the guest episodes have been pretty solid. i guess it's more the core group episodes felt a little weaker, which is usually the opposite of how i feel

Holy shit the kasich book segment is hysterical. "He's gaslighting himself about a moose"

Yeah agreed on the core group lagging a bit recently. I've just always preferred interview/guest eps

Episode 120 - "You need to bend the knee to us"

Nah. Fuck off with the purity shit. They sound like idiots when they start ranting about socialism being the only acceptable political message.

i think their central point that it's time for the national democratic establishment to embrace leftism especially after the last few years of failure is fair and mostly agreeable, but I think since they all basically have identical political beliefs they can work themselves up a little too much sometimes

Universal health care. Public higher education. Livable minimum wage. If anyone fails any one of those things then fuck em.

Embracing leftism is great, I agree with that. But they act like righteous, indignant assholes that hate Hillary Clinton supporters as much if not more than Trump supporters. Having even a slight disagreement on some of their main things means you need to fuck off from the Democratic party? Really? Thank god these morons don't run campaigns. The comparisons to Corbyn having a big victory are totally clueless to the situation in America as well.

In case anyone is wondering what to listen to as a first-timer, recent classic episodes for new listeners include...

  • Episode #75 - Mr. Chapo Goes to Washington
  • Episode #65 - No Future
  • Episode #104 - We've Always Been Here
  • Episode #116 - Jezz in My Pants
Good recent Patreon-only ones for new subscribers include...

  • Episode #83 - Boston Skrong
  • Episode #97 - Hollywood Upstairs Medical College
  • Episode #109 - Media Twatters
#75 (free) and #83 (Patreon) are hall of famers for sure.

Your not going to change or influence the Republican party. That gulf is too wide. Trying to encourage democratic leaning voters or activists to get rid of centrist democrats and policies is a lot more likely.

Some of these choices are weird to me. 104 is great but I wouldn't really call it a particularly good starting place. 97 (which is free) or 106 are much better imo, 106 is one of my all time favorites. 83 is also my least favorite of all the movie reviews. I'd say 101 is one of the best premium episodes.

This is mostly quibbling though, I suppose. When I began listening to the show, I just listened to the most recent episode and worked my way backwards and it turned out fine. There are very few episodes of Chapo that I can say I didn't really like.

I forgot they unlocked #97! Good call. Amazing episode. The recent Wonder Woman review episode was wonderful as well.

I'd love to know how "bend the fucking knee you pieces of shit" is encouraging.

I went back and listened to #75, I don't think they were entirely joking when they called the liberals the real enemies. I first started listening on the David Cross episode, thought it was hilarious, but these guys are too deeply bitter and stupid to keep listening to.

The congressman filming himself touring auschwitz has to be the funniest segment in Chapo history. I was light headed from laughing so hard.

Just blitzed through the latest episode—it's superb. Great discussion of UBI and hugely hugely funny advice column segment at the end. Amber is hilarious

oh man, #116 is a really good one. in this capitalist hellscape we live in, it was the first thing to make me hopeful in a long while. i'd also add all their film criticism episodes, their cultural criticism is severely underrated, a lot of ghoulish politics go unnoticed in some movies for being cloaked in a liberal veil (most recently, their episode on wonder woman was some really good stuff)

Holy shit they're pulling in $71K a month now. Are they public at all with how they're using these funds? I mean, they've very clearly struck a chord with a vast audience and deserve their success, but I wonder if they're putting any of their Patreon money toward left groups/organizations/initiatives that they support, especially when much of Chapo Trap House is dunking on rich elites.

I say this as a premium subscriber, by the way.

i saw something along those lines in twitter a few days ago but i can't find it right now, that they'd be announcing some new projects through patreon or something like that. they're also writing a book so, maybe once that's gotten out of the way they'll fill us in

edit: now that i'm thinking about it there's a chance i made this up in my mind because my brain is fucked

Lol. I just hope they're doing something meaningful with at least a portion of the money.

I never actually listened to the Cthullu episodes, are they just funny or what? Wasn't too interested in them before but I love any and all jokes about Eric Garland.

I occasionally listen to Chapo. I like it alright, but treating them as a figurehead of the left gives them way too much credit. They're generally entertaining and smart, but don't really get that in-depth on policy or solutions to problems.
Not that I necessarily expect them to, but some people talk about them like they're the second coming of Bernie Sanders or something.

Yeah this is how I feel. They're very good at criticizing the right and mainstream Democrats, but I wish they'd do something more productive with all their money and influence.

they make fun of the people that treat them as thought leaders though. wasn't it last week that Will had a whole speech explicitly saying they were pure entertainment and listening instead of actually acting politically is an idiot?

Yeah I don't think anyone on the left really treats them as leaders though.

They have had some good policy episodes though; both the Tim Faust episodes and the recent Clio Chang episode have delved into that a lot though. I think they're better about tearing down liberal ideology though, especially for the sort of left-curious listening to the show. The West Wing episode in particular I thought was great because even though it wasn't about policy or anything, it was an important sort of look at the failings and problems of modern liberal ideology. The stuff dunking on conservatives is funny, but not really interesting. Alex Jones jokes are funny but it's just jokes about a crazy and stupid person. I think the times they talk about liberal ideology though are genuinely insightful.
