In chapter 9 of Y3 and I think encountered my first "What the fuck is this shit"-moment in this series (0, Kiwami, 3) - who thought those running missions where a good idea? One example were the end goal of mission variety doesn't really pay off at all.

As mentioned before, I loved the beginning 3 chapter of Yakuza 3, but overall the story kinda leaves me cold. Good to see Majima being more involved in the serious plot again, though, after Kiwami.
I finished the game yesterday. It gets better and then really bad and then really good again.

Playing it through myself - on Chapter 6 and sick of running away from police.

Looking back through our OTs and old Yakuza threads, there are some things that really didn't get the attention they deserve. Like this:

finished yakuza 3 over the past week (took about 30 hours), i didn't mind the orphanage scenes too much. i also started 4 (about 1 hour in). i don't feel like i missed too much skipping 2, sucks i dont know much about sayama tho.

4 looks alot less blurry and it has a bunch of QoL improvements from what i've seen.. not sure about 4 playable characters, might be too hard to remember everything. i know exactly nothing about yakuza 5, so that's a treat.

i'd really like to platinum a yakuza game one day but it's just too hard =/ perhaps i'll go for 6 since i'll no longer have a "yakuza" backlog. maybe 0, because it makes sense to replay it with a new perspective.

really loving the series, no burnout here.

found some mini-games & side activities info on the internet,

Yeehaw Rally, race in the wasteland
Death batting, bat the bikers
Kenshiro clinic, cure people with Hokuto Shinken
Bartender Ken, Hyakuretu ken shaking
Bouncr Kenshiro, at night club
Looting the prewar ruins, find some video games and arcade machines and bring them back to play

I don't know these are legit ;p

Interesting. Those do sound kinda legit, at least they don't sound to outandish withing the source material. Really hope the video game one is true, I'd love that to pieces :)

6 is the easiest in the series to plat. Quickest to. And if you keep a save file before the final fight you can clear the game and reload that fight, up the difficulty and just clear that on the hardest setting rather than play the game through twice. 4 is fairly easy to plat compared to others as it has no 100% completion list requirements, though I believe the hostess trophies are missable.

70 bucks for Y4 and Nier. I paid less for Y0 and Kiwami lol.
You're not truly one of us till you pay a somewhat exorbitant amount of money for a physical copy of a Yakuza game.

(Paid 60$ total for two copies of Yakuza 3, one of them was used and cost 10$).

ONE OF US, ONE OF US.

How about 40 bucks for Y5? I think it was at 10€ a few months ago during a sale.
Started Y4. Already miss Kiryu even though I finished Y3 yesterday.

Hokuto ga Gotoku is up for preorder now on Amazon, but annoyingly doesn't ship outside Japan for some reason.

Hopefully that changes in the coming days and is simply because it's a new listing.

Oh my god Yakuza 2 might have the greatest video game ending of all time. Wow. Wow wow wow. They better use that same song in Kiwami 2. Onto 3 now!

Also Ryuji Goda is amazing. Do I need to check out Dead Cells

Ditto. I think I read somewhere about a new version of the original anime theme song? Let's hope Kiryu is singing it haha

Yeeees!!! That game is incredible. At the very least, it has the best final battle of all the Yakuza games. That song yooo

And yea, Dead Souls, is ok. It's pretty hampered by FPS issues. I doubt it will ever get a PS4 port, but it would be most benefited by one.

I need that SE

Clan Creator? It was quite grindy in 6 so I can't say I care for it much. I can understand why it's there though, it's a lot easier to port assets they've already made in the engine.

That RGG Online art continues to be really nice. And also I guess that solidifies that the character model shown off last month is for the new Yakuza game staring Ichiban. Looking forward to both Kiwami 2 and FOTNS getting released so they can start hyping that up.

Totally makes sense they go with Virtual On. Guess that replaces the arcade game that was originally in 2, and I can't say I'm disappointed at this switch! Hopefully its not the only arcade game included though, I want a couple more in there.

Gang creator returning is an interesting choice, if they flesh it out I've no issues with it returning. As I liked the concept just not how basic it was. Also surprised at how much Majima stuff is in, I assumed it'd be a very short segment, but that suggests he has some pretty lengthy side content...

So it seems the Playspots for Hokuto ga Gotoku include embracing your role as Japanese Jesus and healing the lame and sick, Driving around and killing people Mad Max style, Classic arcade games and managing a hostess club in the Post-apocalyptic world sounds legit.

Well leave it up to the RGG team to manage to upstage themselves, I'm not sure if I'm more hyped for the remake of 2 or FOTNS.

Anyway, skimmed the conference while playing some Splatoon 2, things I noticed:

Kiwami 2:
Weapons are back! Yay! I saw a sword, smaller staff, long staff, kali sticks, taser at least. All with heat actions as well by the looks of it.

Speaking of which, a few more heat actions were shown off - I noticed some players in the background were pulling off a few different hand to hand heat moves, I see that the "grab one enemy and chuck him on a fallen enemy" makes its return (don't think that was in 6?)

Majima's style looks mainly like his fourth fighting style from 0, but he has at least one new heat move (solo knife heat move)

I need to go back and check, but I did see what looked like Virtua Fighter 2? being played while the conference was ongoing on one of the demo stations. So that might be returning? *Edit* Yeah, see 22.45 in the live stream Gatcha-pin posted above. One of the monitors in the background has someone playing Virtua Fighter, looks like 2 from what I can tell. So a VF game looks to be included. Hopefully we get a full list of playspots soon.

Gang creator looks far, far better than previously. Having more control and mission structure should hopefully do wonders for this game.

As for FOTNS, its looking great so far. The combat looks Yakuza styled but a bit more dramatic, looks like you might be able to do air combos as well. Using circle and not triangle to pull off some of those moves will feel darn weird though... The mini games sound interesting so far, glad to see hostess management returning and I can't wait for the retro gaming stuff (even if the games aren't all that great, I've only played the MD FOTNS game before the Koei release) - I'm doubling down on wanting Arc Sys to have their fighting game included in this no matter how impossible that is!

Gematsu has the deets: http://gematsu.com/2017/09/hokuto-ga-gotoku-details-story-four-new-characters-play-spots

Hyahhaa Rally

You can explore the wasteland outside of Eden by riding a buggy. By collecting various materials, you can customize and upgrade your buggy. By upgrading your buggy, its exploration range will also expand. However, be aware of the dangerous outlaws that have formed factions and may attack. Also, by participating in rally races held in the wasteland, you can get various rewards.

Bartender Ken

A mini-game where Kenshiro becomes a bartender and serves customers. Skillfully serve up alcohol in response to the situation and problems of the various customers that show up at the bar.

Death Batting

A mini-game you can play at an old baseball field in the wasteland. Using an iron pole, hit a home run using the bike-riding scoundrels that come your way as balls. This is the Fist of the North Star version of the batting cages. (JESUS FUCKING CHRIST)

Kenshiro Clinic

Kenshiro wears a white robe and cures people by way of “pressure point treatment.” This is a rhythm action-style mini-game. Press the buttons with good timing to skillfully treat the patient. However, some of the patients that come to the clinic are scoundrels. In order to keep the peace in Eden, their “treatment” is necessary.

Black Suit Kenshiro

The “Nightclub” is a symbol of Eden’s nightlife and one of its greatest amusement facilities. At this nightclub, Kenshiro will don the black suit. Protect the nightclub’s proceeds and public order until the very end. Deal with customers who get drunk and act violently in a way that only Kenshiro can.

Sega Mark III (Sega Master System) Version of Hokuto no Ken

When exploring the wasteland, you can excavate a “Game Machine and Game Cabinet,” relics of the civilization of the old world. By taking the excavated game back to Eden, you can play it. In Hokuto ga Gotoku, you can play the Sega Mark III version of the 1986-released side-scrolling action game Hokuto no Ken.

Ok. This needs to happen. GOTY 2018 confirmed if they manage to get him appearing in the wasteland somehow!

Regarding the rally racing, my speculation is completely wrong. According to the streaming, the wasteland outside Eden is huge and there are lots of side activies you can do, racing, looking for the items from prewar era etc,

Clan Creator? It was quite grindy in 6 so I can't say I care for it much. I can understand why it's there though, it's a lot easier to port assets they've already made in the engine.

It seems this and nightclub island are the main featured side activities in Kiwami 2. I understand they bring back nightclub island but I haven't seen anyone who says he/she likes or enjoy the clan creator. I didn't expect this one again. I see they earned alot with the DLCs in 6.....

Easily, Hokuto ga Gotoku for me. It's good they brought back weapons and heat moves but the fighting looks very samey with 6. One good thing is I heard is Atenshi's mom is on the friend list in Kamurocho. This means Champion district IS in Kamurocho.

edit
Te arcade games you can play at club sega nakamachi st are VF2, Virtual On, UFO catcher.

edit2
well, Sotenbori is the original smaller version, not the one from Kurohyo or 0

Thanks for the info. Didn't realise that Osaka really was smaller in 2. Oh well, we'll get the second smaller area to explore as well so that'll be nice (just because I've not been there since Yakuza 2 HD on the PS3). Then again, with them doing Osaka from scratch again I'm not surprised they opted for the smaller map.

Any word on other playspots in Kiwami 2? I'm mainly just interested to see if bowling, gambling, golf and anything else originally in 2 is back.

i wasnt really into Yakuza 5 in the beginning, I am now in Saejimas story and holy shit, this ramped up. Bear fighter simulator is great. Never knew what it was like to play a cabela game before.

I really like his city too, the christmas theme is awesome!

I saw huge golf balls displayed on the building, the same location as the original, and that building has the play spot icon on the map.

And also, Karaoke Snack/カラオケスナック, I don't know this is the same mini game as in 6 Onomichi

Casino/カジノ(四ツ寺会館) as well as 賭場

Are we back to having all dialogue not fully voiced in Kiwami 2 or is that just because they whipped up a demo for TGS?

It's a remake. The same thing happened in transition from 0 to Kiwami 1. The pedestrians have voice audio in 0 but they are silent with text bubbles in Kiwami

Cool. That sounds promising play spot wise. Sounds like we are getting the full lot of mini games you'd expect from a remake of Yakuza 2 plus a few nice new ones.

I really hope that snack bar play spot is like 6's. That was easily one of the highlights for me, the characters and their stories etc. Found it way more entertaining than hostesses - which have always had pretty one dimensional stories to each of them, bar Yuki from 0 of course. She rocks. And whoever Majima could date in Dead Souls, the responses Majima could give were hilarious!

Was there much shown off about RGG Online? I saw a brief snippet and it looked kinda interesting but I've not seen any other info. I do really love that artwork though, its one of those games that I might end up watching online at some point just to take a look at the pretty pictures...

yakuza 6 CE sold out on amazon US.

this series might be getting popular.
I'm sitting on a pre-order for now. Not sure I'll stick it out buuut it's a series I really enjoy playing when I bother to play, and I did complete the first game at the very least. And since 0 doesn't have any forwards continuity to really worry about (and I'll just deal with whatever's there) I'm getting back in via that. Though it's not like Kiwami 2 will come out in time for Yakuza 6 in the US, obviously.

Folks these Yakuza Kiwami 2 CEs on Amazon.co.jp. Which one is it? I see one thats 10,000+ JPY and another that is 12,000+

Maybe I suffer from Yakuza fatigue but the story in Y4 is really weak up until now. I'm at part 4 of the first chapter.

take a loooooong break before starting yakuza 5. a really long one.
