The Quiet Storm (Music) thread

A person on Urban Dictionary defines the Quiet Storm genre as...

A pretty cool genre of music. It combines new and old forms of R&B. Easy/Regular Jazz is often added into the mix It's played at night. You know, when you're in the mood for something smooth. Quiet Storm artists include: Kem, Boyz 2 Men, and Anita Baker.

"I was up all night last night. I turned on my radio to the R&B station. Quiet Storm was on. Boy was that stuff smooth and satisfying."

Being absolutely real I used to tune into those late night love jam stations as a kid on my analog boombox and these sort of stations just captivated me. The groove, lyrics, vocal talent, and purposely keeping the tempo low, and slow.

It can be sincere in almost a cheesy sense thats endearing to me. A way that people seem to think twice about now, as to not come off as 'thirsty' or 'wanting'. It can almost be melancholy without treading into Red House Painters of absolute sorrow. Or it can strike those sexy bedroom grooves. Its a particular beauty that still hits me till this day.

A couple of choice 'Quiet Storm' jams...

After 7 - Ready or Not
I'll give the sun
The rain
The moon
The stars and the mountains
I'll give you the world

Aron Hall - You Keep me Crying

As any genre it can dip into vapid, and uninteresting, almost elevator music in the case of this genre. But it certainly has entries that transcend that stereotype, and are timeless. Interested in those jams.

Making Love in the Rain

There's a Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produced song I always loved but rarely hear it ever get mentioned is by an artist they had named Angel Grant. I remember being the only person I knew that even had it.

The song is Lil' Red Boat.
