Official WoW Beta Stress Test : Who/What/Where are you?

Stuggernaut

Grandma's Chippy
Once this starts up tomorrow, I would like to adventure with some of my fellow GA posters so I took the hint from that other thread and made this thread so we could share our names/locations.

Once I get my account setup I'll post my info.

Maybe we can get this stickied till the stress test is over.

Worst part is I have to work tomorrow!

So do i, but we have a 3-day weekend to make up for it! That's 72 hours of non-stop WoW bliss. Food? Sleep? What? There will be none of that ladies, we're on a 7-day timer that doesn't stop for pansies. CHUG!

Got my account creation email, but i'm at work.

As soon as someone gets a chance to look at the servers, please post their names here so we can better coordinate.

Going Horde Priest 4tehwin!!one!1

I'm in norgannon in that cathedral type building I'm upstairs were the mage trainer is.

it's not populated at the place where I am so find me quick.

Is there an incremental time of acceptance? Still haven't gotten my account creation email, just the CD key one.

Wondering if i'd like to drop FFXI in favor of this...

So... can anyone send me the link to create an account?

In Norgannon, wherever the gnomes and dwarfs start (Coldridge Valley?). I made a female night-elf hunter but the Gnome Mage I created is much more fun to mess around with.

Name "Ganoes".

You guys can add people to your friends list in game, or if you want, make a guild (it only takes 10 people). Just type "O" and click Add Friend and type in their name. Won't work cross-faction (neither will whispers, and chat channels are also restricted to each faction).

Hopefully you guys playing alliance come to the conclusion that their races suck compared to the horde, because that's been my experience so far. And horde, at least on the beta and pvp servers, is roughly 2/3 of the alliance population.

Oh, and race doesn't matter too much. About the only class it really affects is hunter, as they start with different ranged proficiencies (dwarves and taurens get guns, orcs, trolls and night elves get bows, night elves can't learn guns).

The only class race matters for is hunter, and that's pretty much only depending on what ranged weapon you want to use. You can also learn guns or bows if you don't want to use your starting ranged weapon, unless you're a night elf.

But statistically, there might be about 5 stat points difference between each race of the same class.

why is no one playing on the pvp servers >:O!!!!

and why the hell is the pvp system in this game all fucked up. i can't attack people of the same race as me. this is pissing me off. they better have a pure anarchy server.

I'm with firex on Alliance vs. Horde ... most of my character time during the beta has gone into Alliance races, but the two Horde characters I've made have been really enjoyable. Hard to explain exactly why ... I think it's partially because Alliance is seemingly the "default" choice, and Horde's get less love and are the underdogs ... more people on the Alliance side seem to be out for themselves, whereas people on the Horde side tend to be "we're all in this together!" ... vast generalizations, and your mileage may vary, but Horde just seemed to be friendlier and more open to grouping, helping, etc.

Also, the Undead rock.

WTH is this. The official server is on the gaming board. We have a list up of 'erebody in the stress test. Its pretty much split half and half between horde and alliance, although the horde is gettign some converts because the cooler kids are all doing the horde. WOO HOO! Peer pressure.

Update: I have a Lvl 6 Orc warrior named Maldurk on the server everyone else is on.

I've got some hardcore questing to do tonight (a few oj quests, and 1 red). Don't know how difficult the red quest will prove, might need a full group (5?) to complete that. Beautiful part is all you guys have to do to get same quest is meet up with me.

Share Quest button is simple yet pure geniousity (yes i made that word up).

Yea! Quests! I cant wait. What time is the questing begin. I might work up my Shamen to do it when i get home in like 2 hours.

they didn't have the share quest thing until recently, and it is a good idea that they implemented really well (and I'd be surprised if anybody suggested it... it honestly seemed to come out of nowhere from player feedback). beforehand people had to say where you go to get quests and all that. and the difficulty's really just what level you are for the quest... 5 or more levels below the quest level (generally the level of the guys you have to kill) = red, 3-4 = orange, 1-2 = yellow, and below that are green (2 levels above) and gray (by anywhere from 5-10). you can solo a lot in this game... it's kind of a shame i'm not in the stress test, because it'd be fun to help you guys level up, explore, etc. enough to at least try out the level 20ish instance dungeon for each side.

and my general dislike for alliance is just that I don't really enjoy playing as any of the races. I kind of like the design of dwarves and gnomes, but not enough to play one (I really hate the gnome voices). humans are so... bleh. I've had fun making anything but generic white guys with humans, but they all still sound like generic white guys. and night elves, well, they're night elves. I can't stand elvish fantasy races, which is why my goal in retail is to kill as many night elf players as I can at higher levels. Horde races don't have quite as much content (there's just a spot between levels 28 and 32 where there aren't many quests) but I've found they have a lot cooler areas to level in, and at least as a Shaman you get a very big sense of being a hero to the horde. Undead are one of those races that have a real cool factor to them that will make them pretty popular (plus they're a good mage race in pvp if that's your choice) but I've grown to really like orcs and taurens the most. The Tauren home area has some cool quests and I like the native american theme, while with the Orcs you get a real sense of establishing a home for the new horde and exploring this untamed world of Kalimdor.

Also, if you're a fan of the Warcraft series, there are a lot of cool areas you can visit from the series in the game - places like Stonard, Stromguarde, Strahnbrad, and a lot of others that are locked off atm. The lower level areas underwhelm me now (just from being so used to them) but even repeated visits to higher level areas always leaves me feeling impressed... it's not like they don't have good content at lower levels, it's just that they've had more time to work on the higher level areas, and they're really well-detailed and some of them are vast. Also, the game has an awesome sense of humor - tons of easter eggs referencing everything from other Blizzard games to movies and books, all of it pretty good tongue-in-cheek stuff.

I don't really recommend the pvp servers. The best way I can describe it is they're more or less like one big battleground for horde vs alliance. This generally means the alliance has way bigger numbers and higher levels (because they just have more content put in up to about level 40) so you're either on one side with a significant numbers and levels advantage, or another side where you're going to have it rough. In retail, though, I think the pvp servers will be a lot more fun... but Blizzard's also said they're going to put in at least one instanced pvp battleground in the beta so we can test it, which if it's good enough will sate all of my pvp thirst (plus you CAN pvp on the regular servers, it's just a lot more based around consent - i.e. I frequently ride my orc shaman into darkshire to kill some guards and get the attention of other players when I want to pvp).

Thanks for the info firex. I'd look it up but most WoW sites are blocked at work here.

Looks like i'm gonna 4 other noobs for that red quest hehe. Excellent.

On a related note, I am having serious withdrawals, work has never been so horrible. I miss my Orc grunt.

:(

Oh yeah. The following classes have class quests put in, and these quests either give spells/skills or equipment:
Warrior (level 10 skill for defensive stance and a weapon, level 20 quest for a shield with a quest series followup for a series of rare quality armor and weapons, level 30 quest for berserker stance, and other equip quests later on)
Mage (purely equip quests)
Warlock (quests for summoned demon pets and a few equipment quests, level 40 quest for a pet that functions as a mount)
Paladin (quests for spells, equipment, and a level 40 quest for a mount)
Shaman (quests at various levels for the different elemental totems)

Class quests are fun, but largely meant to be done solo with the exception of the mage/warrior class quests that need you to get items from a few higher level instances.

I've been playing my shaman a lot lately, but I might give my warlock another shot (I got him to level 30 and quit) to see if I can have any advice for anybody wanting to try the class or see if I want to play that or a hunter in retail (they're both pet classes, but vastly different styles). I wouldn't recommend Warlock to any new player, nor would I recommend Shamans or Druids. It's not that Shamans take tons of skill, it's that you either have to get used to swapping hotkey bars or download a UI with multiple hotkey bars like Cosmos to put all your abilities in. Druids are in a similar boat - it's not that they're bad, but I think they just require a lot more familiarity with the game than a class like Warrior/Mage/Priest/Rogue/Paladin does. Hunter might not be too bad either, but I've only played mine up to level 6 so I don't really know if it's good overall or not (aside from some bugs that make pets do lower damage than they should, and the lack of pet skills).

I've just started playing. I'm a level 2 human mage. My character's name is gofreak. OMFG, the first time I stepped into Stormwind, it was breathtaking. So vast. I'm still there trying to find a wine shop ;) My character has a penchant for running around topless, and occasionally, pantless. So look out for me! I'll try adding some GA people to my friends.

Just so you know: NPCs you need to turn a quest in to appear as light green dots on your minimap, and in Stormwind, Orgrimmar and Thunder Bluff you can ask guards for directions to NPCs and class and tradeskill trainers.

Is there a GAF guild? How can I join? I'd like to do stuff with other people, get a little help maybe.

So far I've only done the "kill X amount of X" type quests and a few "get this" and "see this person" types.

Do the quests get more involved? I'm more of an explorer than a quester, but I like fun quests too.

At level 6 it's looks like the quests are starting to get bigger in scope and story. I've got a red quest i'm dying to get to tonight. Another orange one has me visiting Ogrimmar (orc/troll capitol!!), so i really don't have any complaints. They're certainly better than DAoC kill tasks. =P

Those are pretty much the 3 main types of quests. But there are also some big bounty quests where you're sent to kill a specific guy and collect something from them. These are usually featured in instances. Also, there are some NPC escort quests, and some rescue quests where you have to find a trapped NPC or 2 and free them.

There's not a huge variety of quests, but what helps is that there are some events that trigger on some quests and not on others.

And generally, after you go to the capital for your race, you get sent on quests to go out further to more border-like areas.

Some people don't like the fedex type quests where you deliver from one area of the world to another, but personally I like it as long as it's not really excessive.

edit: also you can find some hidden quests by exploring. or hidden vendors, hidden trainers, etc.

Well here are my chars:

Blackstorm (Male) - Level 5 Undead Warlock
Gaeldan (Male) - Level 5 Human Paladin
Kaleena (Female) - Level 5 Troll Mage

I'm Khiqshi on Norgannon, right now a level 8 (Night?)elf Female Rogue.

Is there a GAF guild started? Can I join? Do we have to be of the same allegiance to be in a guild together or something?

I'm a Tauren Warrior named Vysceron lvl 12. I'm in Norgannon just like the rest of you. Gonna make an Undead or Orc Rogue named Ceros.

friends list, like I said up above (not trying to be snarky, I'm sure it was buried in pages of stuff I posted): hit O to open up the social window, click the add friend button and type in a name. Only works for your faction.

making a guild: Go to a racial capital and look for a guild center/welcome center (ask a guard if you want). Get the charter, then get 9 additional signatures and the guild is formed. I've never actually made a guild, just joined them.

I have a level 8 troll warrior on the Mannoroth server, but I would like to join up with you guys. Could anyone help me get going over there so I can catch up with you? What type of character do you need me to be? :)
